And with that, any pretense of "convenience, not advantage" goes out the window. Not that it had been anything but a farce, but now it's not even that.

"convenience, not advantage" went out of window long months ago and actually stat tomes weren't the worst.
Still seriously - who did not saw it coming? Freemium games HAVE to tie game to store and "push" players to buy it store.
After all it is microtransaction based model.
Anyway Lotro 'crossed the line' many months ago. Store-only LW relics , store-only relic removal scrolls, creep skills for anyone from CS , incrasing grind in game to idiotical levels to push store sales (scrolls of greater delving anyone?), etc
Not to even menton Lootbox lottery + keys from store - like in F2P asian grinders
This type of thing is why I was against LOTRO going F2P and I was very vocal about it on the forums. However, Fenistil is right. A cash shop is how this payment model is supported. For myself, after my initial rage quit, I returned to the game as a Premium member and havnt found the need to purchase any of these advantage items. In fact other than a quest pack here and there for my alts, a horse for my little farmer and some vault space, I have purchased nothing. I have no problem supporting the game in this way and I am able to play the game without these power items and do not feel gimped in any way. Perhaps those doing monster play can get an advantage? I truly dont know as I have never done any PVP in LOTRO as I play it for the PVE . At any rate, I enjoy the game more than any other MMO ive tried so I will continue playing. If I had my way the game would still be P2P but it is what it is and again, I do enjoy the game.
Really? This game sucks and Im not having fun? Im going to unsub right now. Thanks for the tip.
Good for you. My choice to leave Lotro was not 'rage quit' but it was well throught out.
I left , and while I miss Lotro , I will never come back again.
Store and gameplay changes it does ruin my immersion and that's most important for me.
I've only been playing LotRO for about 6 months, and I simply don't see that a stats make much difference in the game. If anything, stats are almost a vanity item already, with the ability to adjust stats via gear and the various deed rewards available in game. There doesn't really seem to be any tangible difference between, say a might of 300 and a might of 350, much less between 300 and 301. The grain is far too wide (in this game) for almost any specific item, store-purchased or acquired through normal in-game mechanics, to affect the majority of players.
This simply seems to be another anti-CashShop rant. Here's an easy solution. Don't buy from the store if you don't like it. It is highly unlikely to give anyone a definable 'advantage' over your character, and you'll have saved money.
Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.
plz stop the nonsense...
I am playing my new epic storyline quest line in Dunland...IT IS SO EPIC!
I helped the rangers go south to Dunland, now I am carrying Apples with a basket to a guy 3 mins away. When I get there he says I have to return the basket back to the ranger. MInd you, I have to do all this WITHOUT MY HORSE, if it wasnt the epic quest line I would say this is a horrible quest with a time sink.
Then I have to kill 10 frogs to help clear the land, when I went back they told me to kill 10 more frogs...no it is not a timesink/grind, it's all part of a plot to destroy the ring...
This game went downhill...
I really don't feel like logging anymore, the last expansion was horrible, storyline/quests are timesinks/grind. I am still not 75 cause I get bored and log off after doing 2-3 quests
Won't be coming back when GW2 releases.
I don't know, the stat tomes actually don't bother me that much. Don't get me wrong, I hate in game stores and anything where paying gives you an advantage. In LOTRO however, I've never bought any of these tomes and I can do anything I want in the game. There might be a point when they're at stat tome 20 where I'll be at a major disadvantage, but right now, it's not bothering me that much.
That said, if I could take them out, I would.
Yeah. I don't get all the hoopla about what the store sells. The stats are not that crucial overall. What you get over the course of playing the game is fine. That's even without grinding. Those that say your character is not "viable" if you don't grind, grind and grind again until you have all skills and stat bonus are just plain incorrect. You can still play the game..win skirmishes and contribute to a group your appropriate level without going full hog into grinding. The only time it may count against you is if your group doesnt think your good enough because they are a bunch of number crunching elitist douchebags. Fortunately I didn't encounter too many of these types while I played. [ I say played because right now I'm playing SWTOR but will likely go back to LOTRO (and RIFT) from time to time] Nothing in the store gives you that much of an edge unless you just can't stand someone maxing their crafting skill ahead of you because they bought mats from the store.
The best thing about LOTRO is that generally, the community doesn't require or encourage min/maxxing, nor does the game really require it. This makes these minor stat tomes just a way to ditch some points if you have some to burn.
I have to say again though, I say the above with great caution. I am generally against store stat boosts or any store only character upgrades. But so far, the LOTRO doesn't bother me THAT much. Like I said, I think it's because of how the game is structured, and because of the community of course.
i left this game not because of anything they did in the store but because of the crappy excuse for an expansion, I mean seriously, if that's all they are going to put together and not change anything other then the poor class design issues then that's not for me. I'm very tired of the same old thing. Games with this extended quest grind, extended rep grind poor crafting and 0 exploration or open world events need to go (COUGH SWTOR). It was fine 18 years ago it's not fine now. They did a terrible job with this expansion and then waited for some features to be released just so they could throw an expansion of content at us that was crap and expected that to be just fine. sound familiar in any of the recent releases hmmm.
I don't mind, it helps turbine make a few extra bucks and game companies need to make money. Plus these same tomes will be in the loot tables 3 months down the road and they will probably have tier 8's in the store.
There is a point where if they keep adding more tomes though, it will be overpowered. The people getting up to a hypothetical tier 12+ get a lot more damage, healing power or morale etc etc. They're going to have to stop soon.
