AI has to be their top priority now, and it should have been since Dawn to be honest.
Even the PVP orientated guilds will benefit from it because a focus on fleshing out the world and the PvE aspects will not just bring in some new faces, but some sheep too. The reason they're all inactive is because all they do is fight the same few people over and over again for no real higher purpose. They're supposed to be fighting for control over parts of the game world, so it makes sense to make that world as interesting and valuable as possible.
Proper AI will go a long way to achieving this and at one point SV was making a big fuss over things like town life and how the epic patch was going to open doors for them to provide exciting PVE content. They even showcased a few dungeons and experimented with some boss creatures. Why did they then completely ditch it in favour of other things and leave it unfinished?
Henrik claims theyre working to his master plan, but what I'm seeing is a team with no focus, basically just working on whatever they feel like rather than a well thought out plan to ensure effort goes where it will have the biggest effect.
AI combined with a decent and functional UI should be their top priority since day one my dear friend. But i ll admit its better to have it late than ever. I m afraid though -at least thats the conclusion i get from the limited info they re throwing to us now and then- that even those will not be anything close to complete features but for once more half assed and semi working-frustrating features. Dont wanna run ahead and speculate but their history so far is so disapointing that makes me think that way even though i m fairly optimistic person by nature. I guess time will tell at the end but i can say for sure that AI and UI will be my last chance to SV and MO and i will not compromise with anything less than fully implemented and working features. Also i do believe that many more are walking in the same road and thinking exactly the same with me.
I just wonder if its too late for a UI revamp. The only remaining players are ones that don't care about the current UI, and taking time out to rebuild it will mean halting production on stuff they ARE interested in.
I'm baffled about the decision to put the demon attack in before the AI is sorted as well. Having NPCs randomly pop up, running around like headless chickens and not even aligned with the floor properly might impress the MO faithful, but if SV want to attract new players they have to do better than that. The demonic appearence was a missed opportunity: with proper AI and more care taken in the execution, it could have attracted attention outside the existing playerbase.

The UI being as painful (and old fashioned looking) detracts from the overall effort. When working the Help Channel it's one of the regular complaints we get from new players 'every window operates in a slightly differnt way' - which gives a bad feel and makes climbing the learning curve even more difficult. Many aspects of the GUI re-write are complete, there's some holding factors there at the moment but they continue to progress.

I think this falls into the 'work with what you have' catagory there is always this tension in MO - do we wait until we get it exactly as we want it - which might take too long. Or do we go with what we have to make the game more enjoyable and attract more players. I think both points are spot on tho.
The 'Flotaing' issue we currently have is being addressed so true Giants as well as these very large Demons will not continue to do this for very much longer. That said we've had some great feedback both positive and constructive which we are very carefully listening to.

That paragraph right there is why I think SV has shot theirselves in the dick many times. This is why patch after patch is released broken. Or content like the demons looks haphazardly put together. You are not going to attract new players if the content looks and is broken.
I think players would understand if you waited longer or "took to long" to fix content or patches to a level that is a AAA game which is the price people are paying. This is why the player base is low. Stuff is released sub par because it would "take to long".

So true. And it has been like this for the longest time. Right after launch and perhaps a while longer, there were plenty of us still believing that SV would eventually get their priorities straight and that they would fix the game. We were all fooled by the "soon" propaganda and Henrik's hype talk:
"As soon as X feature is in place, we can fix Y issue, and then you'll finally see Z in game!"
After a while most of us realized it was just empty words, and that the team has no clue whatsoever what they're doing. They made SO many bizarre design priorities that the obvious fact dawned (yes, pun intended) on most players: SV are just clueless amateurs posing as professionals. Time and again they have missed their chances of making the game enjoyable for a larger audience and to bring back the original crowd of sandbox fans. Time and again they have proven that their design philosophy is nothing but a trial-and-error experiment, driven by the random fancies of a restless and spoiled rich kid playing CEO.
Sadly, there are not many people left to fool now, and time is running out.

Henrik has repeatedly said that he will advertise the game when all of the core features are in place, Like AI, GUI, New magic Schools, Tindrem, Tier 2 keep walls(proper castle stylee) etc. in other words - when he is good and ready! Now that's a big list in terms of coding effort. So if time is running out.... well that approach doesn't seem to make much sense, does it?
They may well not be running things as you would but the gears quietly grind on. However, MO's birth has been painful I don't for one second argue that that is not the case.
Can we stop with the doomsaying 'time is running out' please? They know what the time is. Talking to the lead-dev, they're having a lot of fun fleshing out the new AI at the moment!

There is something you should understand... this is a third party forum and the reason most people post on here is because people like yourself would immediately ban, delete, and underplay any real issues with MO, or SV as a company. So to say "stop saying" anything is not within your scope of administration, nor will it happen. We discuss the issues as they are based in *REALITY*, not the suspended reality that exist only in the MO forums with a heavy handed moderation.
That said, Henrik can't advertise the game because the company is basically bankrupt. Time isn't running out, it already has. That's why he's putting together the "Extrarodinary meeting" in order to extrodinarily get more money to build this terrible game for a bit longer.
So again, you are not a moderator here, so please stop trying to tell us what to say. It will not change, as long as we are under the TOS of these forums. Not the TOS of yours, which basically is "say nice things or be banned/deleted".
"Actually that paticulair indivdual is very good at PVP, it's extremely tough 'piloting' one of these Demons for reaosns I won't go into."
I will go into it for you. SV is terrible at developing and released the event before all the bugs were worked out.
"
Speaking of lore. I have an idea Theia. The SV team has said many times they have not "translated all the lore from swedish" I really do not believe that at all but, how about you tell them just to put it up in swedish. I have google translate. Or I am sure there are swedish players that will translate it for free once it is up. It seems players can do more for the game than SV can usually
Bizarre you raise this as we were literally discussing this a few hours ago. We've previously already asked the Game Designer, for exactly this. We were told 'no, sorry'. "
This just reinforces my opinion that SV does not ahve all this lore that needs to be translated. Why not put it up in swedish?? Maybe because they are not done doing it and that is why all these events seem made up on the spot.

Not to mention: There is no "we". (Well there is a "we" but you aren't part of it, Hypeteam-Theia.) Also your attention whore colour is getting on everyone's nerves. What are you, some 14 year old girl from the AOL chat? How about you try to catch our eyes with proper spelling instead, Mr. paticulair indivdual? First I was just angry at SV. Then amused. But since you're here I feel secondary embarassment.
Go ahead, report me. But you're only making a fool out of yourself.
It puzzles me why would anyone in their right mind write the lore for an english game in other language than english to begin with (specially considering that scandinavians are quite good at english, unless they been slacking at school). Stupid waste of time. They are probably just using the swedish excuse to cover up the fact that lore doesn't even exist.

Atleast thats what i pulled outta that statement....But doesnt it usually go,
"We will not charge subscription fees untill mortal online has basic functionality and a basic set of core features"

Yeah, Henrik has repeatedly said a lot of things. And once upon a time, people listened to him.
But alas, times have changed. I retrospect, his "approach" really does not make much sense at all.
I understand that as Henrik's employee you are paid to claim everything is fine and dandy, that "the gears quietly grind on". However, the rest of us are free to speak our mind, and a majority of the ex-MO players will probably agree that the gears have had a significant amount of crap thrown in them, that they were poorly constructed from the start, and that the machine they are propelling is nothing more than a shell. Of course you will claim otherwise, but here your word is just as good as the next guy's.
Saying that time is running out is in no way doomsaying, it's just stating fact. Every single "saviour patch" portrayed as the turning point for MO (Epic, Dawn, TC) turned out to be nothing more than hype, bad design and poor implementation, resulting in a short spike in player activity followed by disappointment and an even emptier world than before. Now the next second coming is around the corner (the GUI/AI patch), and nothing will be different this time around.
Most MMOs don't get a second chance. Given MO's niche character, its horrible reputation and its age (soon it will be two years since release, an eternity in the gaming world), the future looks rather bleak. But by all means, keep the propaganda up, at least you're getting paid to do it.

I've never banned anyone for that Hercules.. tsk tsk, that'd be unfair and because I don't agree with a post doens't mean I delete it. That said if people bring say 'real life' stuff into a thread or something like that then yes, I ban for that. In over 18 months I've not once done that, true to say that in the early days there were a couple of really terrible (truly awful) Mods - think they were sacked tho. The point I'm making is the 'time is running out' stuff we see. People have been saying that for an age. I guess one of us will be right and one of us will be wrong Herc. Gentleman's bet?

I took the time out to ask Henrik about this; he thought that was funny. In fairness tho, raising money is part of any small indie CEO's role. The lights are far from out. See Gentleman's bet above!

So, again, as I said I can only go on the way that I personally treat our customers. There have been a few rotten apple Mods a long time ago. And I think if you take some time to look at our Forums, debate is encouraged al la Mortal Pulse, the new News Letter etc. Is MO perfect? Miles off! Is it making steady progress? Yes!
Thanks Hercules, appreciate your comments hope I've cleared some of it up for you.

Who are you to state these things as "facts"? If you have these "facts", then please share them with us. If not, then please shut it on this subject. You are more then welcome to think that SV will burn in hell etc, but if you don´t have a picture of the Devil himself doing some wicked barbeque on the SV staff, then don´t claim it as a "fact".
And I do see that you are one of them that don´t play the game atm, cause your grabbing the "fact" that the world is once again empty, when it´s actually more healthy then I´ve seen since release. At least this comes from a person playing the game, and not from a person that MAYBE played the game and got burned, and now have some personal vendetta towards SV to settle or something. So your "facts" are just your own opinion on how you think it is, or rather how you would like it to be. Don´t try to put your "truth" on me when it tastes like lies.

The only fact he stated is that time is running out, which can be seen by any logical person. Fans are unhappy, less active players, and if those subtle numbers are not enough for you then there is their financial rapport saying they are loosing money. There is your fact. Nothing to rage about, he never said for fact they will burn anywhere. So stop trying to put words into other peoples mouth.

Time is not running out - so that's not a fact either!

I still have 2 active accounts and have to say 1 thing. Either you are fairly new player and you dont have a clue on what population was earlier either you are a terrible liar. Population is close to nothing. Even hardcore players and the so called "pvp'ers" are just arround irc and forums and if a skirmish happens then they re probably loging in. Go and check all the major towns and if you found more than 50 people online i will continue ressubing those 2 accounts even though i cba to play a beta in bad shape.
Now to Theia. For some reason even if i dont know you, i have very possitive thoughts for you as a person. But honestly you are losing credits each and every time you are posting in here only by trying to play someones elses game and convince people that everything runs smoothly from now on. Well its not. Even TC patch was broken but still you are proud of it and you are advertising it as great achievement only cause it wasnt being followed by gamebreaking bugs. Also you giving me a strong feeling that you dont actualy give a flying shit for all the customers that SV burned and instead of trying to calm things and people in your own forum, you re coming in here to win some impressions. Heading for new players is a healthy thing to do as a company. From the other hand flushing down the toilet the ones that where supporting you untill now its total lack of respect not only towards your customers but to yourself also as a company. Thats also called hypocricy in my book.

Ouch. Well thanks for the positive things you said. And I agree with what you've said to be honest. TC did not come out with game breaking bugs but that's hardly something to be celebrated, it should be the norm. I hope we carry on with the Testing Team and that future releases are well tested and we don't see a retrograde step back to patching with many, painful issues.
In terms of our 'old' customers, well I was there for lauch and I would truly like to see everyone come back to the game they were expecting, not the game they got at launch.

So they're cheating their way in their own keep. I've seen worse offenses really :P

"I think this falls into the 'work with what you have' catagory there is always this tension in MO - do we wait until we get it exactly as we want it - which might take too long. Or do we go with what we have to make the game more enjoyable and attract more players. I think both points are spot on tho. "
I bet they are, but it seems they are the only ones having all the fun atm.
@Theia
"We will advertise for Mortal Online once is has basic functionality and a basic set of core features and no sooner"
Atleast thats what i pulled outta that statement....But doesnt it usually go,
"We will not charge subscription fees untill mortal online has basic functionality and a basic set of core features"
I could be wrong, i dunno....

ppl less than after TC release but more than 50
I play MO first day CBT. There was time when ppl were less than now
I think all full loot gamers just have to cross every part of their body and hope DF 2.0 isn't vaporware.
