Well Im watching the idiot box last night and the regular Ad for "save this starving african kid" foundation comes on. Lots of pictures of kids with bones poking under thin skin and and flies in their mouths etc etc. I get the usual pang of guilt as I take a sip of my Capn Morgan and coke and scoff anoher Cheese Dorito.
But wait.....
Straight after the commercial up pops the now massive visage of Kirsty Ally advertising Jenny Craig. "Look Jenny Ive only got one chin... all up". "They have chocolate cake YAY Cake!"
Well the irony of this was certainly not lost on me.. I laughed so hard I almost choked on my Dorito.
What a wonderful world we live in when half the planet is starving and wants to get fat and the other half is fat and want to get thin... and there is nothing either party can do about it... or so we would be led to believe....
Its all just too funny to believe sometimes... I keep expecting Mel Brookes to pop up in the corner of my room and yell "CUT, thats a wrap people"

You live a very simple insignificant life. Among that your so called world is meaningless, allow me to introduce you to my good friend. He's quite shy but, once you get to know him he's alrite.
Professor Hubert Farnsworth - That question is less stupid but, you asked it in a profoundly stupid way.
Yeah cant argue with that...
Im just glad Im in the subset struggling with which flavour of cake to eat rather than whether to kill myself or starve to death..

Well on the world hunger issue, I agree with the late Sam Kinnison. American liberals can't bitch about Americans not giving enough to starving children in Africa when what we should be doing is bringing the Africans where the food is. Its sand for christ's sake. Nothing grows in it.

Yup thats dead right...
Etheopia and Eritrea are classic examples... At the same time as the world was funding them millions of dollars in Rice and other aid they were shooting Russian made medium range missiles over each others borders at the rate of 4 per minute costing several hundred thousand US dollars each
"For a while, the two nations seemed to get on fairly well. However, relations further deteriorated into war a couple of years after Eritrea introduced its own currency in 1997. War again resulted over what the BBC mention as a minor border dispute in May 1998, and over differences on ethnicity and economic progress approaches. The May 1998 - June 2000 war alone resulted in 100,000 deaths and millions of dollars diverted from much needed development into military activities and weapons procurements."

They use the money to buy more AK-47s. The logic is "hmmm....bread or AKs...I think we are starving to death but we need some more AKs"

"and there is nothing either party can do about it... or so we would be led to believe...."
Since you seem to be implying that there is some grand plan for ending world hunger that is being hidden from us by our leaders, I was wondering if you would care to share it with us.
So, if you would, please tell us this grand scheme that will end world hunger.
Obviously I'm being sarcastic and don't expect much. But hey, you never know. Maybe you really do know something that the rest of us don't know. Maybe you have thought of something that has never occurred to anyone else in the world.
Heck, maybe you have some magic beans or something. So please save me from my own cynicism and tell me how we can solve the problem.
Well Im still naieve and idealistic enough to believe that its a question of priorities...
Every financial year every government in the world makes a decision about whether to continue this insane policy of global xenophobia and up the defence spending or do something more constructive with the cash.
Im not blind to the current situation in the world and its even harder now to argue that there are more important things in life than more guns and bombs....... but eventually I hope we will come around...
Its not lack of money, its lack of trust and lack of will...
Like I said... Im a simpleton...
Please enlighten me, who IS the leader of Africa?
Dave Chapelle of course

LMAO!
Maybe we could send Kirsty Ally... If they roasted her she would feed a third world country for months.

General Sani Abacha was the reportedly corrupt dictator of oil-rich Nigeria. He 'rigged' elections. More than 100 government executions occurred in 1994, and numerous pro-democracy demonstrators were killed by police.
General Amin once ruled Uganda. When Amin had been a non-commissioned officer in the British Army he had helped to manage Britain's concentration camps in Kenya. He murdered friends, clergy, soldiers, and ordinary Ugandans.
Pro-American Samuel Doe came to power in a bloody 1980 coup.He received 'US aid and corporate kickbacks'.Under his regime, the gross domestic product decreased by 13%.Those who protested were jailed or killed.Doe purchased over sixty $60,000 Mercedes Benz cars for his government ministers. (Liberia)
King Hassan ll ruled Morocco.'95% of the population lives in abject poverty.'In 1975, Hassan took his nation into a war in the Western Sahara that was costing the country over $l million a day.
Mobutu amassed an estimated $5 billion personal fortune at his nation's expense. In 1974, when the US sent $1.4 million to assist troops fighting a civil war, "Mobutu pocketed the entire sum."Malnutrition takes the lives of one-third of Zaire's children, and one child out of two dies before age five.Mobutu's regime imprisoned and tortured its opponents. (Zaire/Congo)
Those are just a handful

Nairobi - Severe hunger caused a Kenyan couple to kill and eat their son, according to a newspaper report.
Residents of the Bondeni village in the Tana River district alerted the assistant chief of police in the area.
When police arrived at the house last week, they found body parts in a pot.
According to the newspaper Sunday Nation, the son was severely handicapped.
The area has been hit hard by drought and according to district agricultural officer Edward Ziro Wanje, more than 150 000 people in the area are facing starvation.
The parents of the child were arrested.
More than 50 percent of the 33 million Kenyans survive on less than $1 (about R6,50) a day.
Poverty is especially pronounced in the rural areas where residents are often cut off from the cities due to an insufficient road network. - Sapa
I think we should really try to get these people more food forget about the Middle east Africa needs alot more help.
all of which were leaders in countries within the continent of Africa, yes
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
With all the aid countries send there via the UN and themselves you would think there would be one friggin McDonalds somewhere over there. Seriously though until the UN is run by monkeys who can do the job or someone looks into where this money is going nothing there will get better. Plus there are just too many damn people there. If you and you wife are starving don't have kids! It's crazey but there isn't much you can do.
"Government exists to protect us from each other. Where government has gone beyond its limits is in deciding to protect us from ourselves." ~ Ronald Reagan
IT's not that hard to solve world hunger... Actually it is very feasable.... That is if everyone worked together.....
The problems are that the leaders of the starving countries are self centered and corrupt... and The leaders of the companies and corporations that can actually help this food problem are not willing to take the financial hit that it would take to feed all the people in the world...
Because here in america we waste sooo much food... just think of how much food the supermarkets and fast food places throw away every day... It's just that sending money to Africa with the intention of feeding the poor is alot more profitable than actually SOLVING world hunger... Because sending money satisfies the american people in that The companies are giving to charity so they must be good... and it doesn't really matter if the money goes to the right places or not..
just my 102 cents

Its a question of priorities... right now the global priorities are still those of shareholder capital and global conflict. Nothing will change until we realise that there is more to life than money and guns.

Honestly, I'm done with this thread, i never meant to get into this argument, i was responding to d0zer who said
Problem is no matter how much we send and give to them it never gets to the people that need it. They have a very corrupt leader there.
I was just telling him that "Africa" doenst have a leader.
