Runes of Magic: Browser & Facebook Versions Coming

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Frogster has announced a partnership with Kalydo to bring players fully featured Facebook and browser versions of Runes of Magic. The new versions of RoM are scheduled to be released sometime in Q2 2011 with the Facebook version coming first. Facebook users will be able to log in without any further registration using Facebook Connect and will be able to play either windowed or full screen.

“We are expecting to see a marked increase in the numbers of players for Runes of Magic through this cooperation with Kalydo. Powered by the impressive Kalydo technology the browser version will enable us to attract new target groups who previously have found the download, installation and registration process too complicated”, commented Andreas Weidenhaupt, Chief Licensing Officer of Frogster Interactive Pictures AG on the signing of the contract.

This from a studio with one of the laggiest clients in the genre.  I do not understand the need to play a game through facebook either, makes no sense whatsoever.

They're a business. Just take a wild guess as to why they want it on Facebook and on browser play.

Facebook is probably the largest social media outlet in the entire world, ripe with an untapped consumer base. As a business it makes perfect sense to go after it.

They are too mney hungry. The idea of renting backpack space for real money turned me off this game a couple of years ago.

Browser gaming has opened up a whole new world for casual gamers and people that were never interested in video games before.

    Thats very interesting news.

Zastroph every "free" mmo has extra bag space available to buy from their cash shop.

Has anyone heard of this company 'Kalydo' that claims to be able to get everything running in a browser?

I predict they will become very rich with this :D

Yes that is true.... a "untapped consumer base"..... a bunch of people that shouldn't have a MMO marketed to them in the first place.

I am being an asshat? No.

If they wanted to play MMOs THEY WOULD BE PLAYING THEM ALREADY.

This is just one more example of how MMO Publishers have completely lost sight of their fans/players. They are not even looking in the right direction.

I am the Player that wonders... "What the %#*& just happened?!"

its just normal for companies to develop games that will run in facebook, since almost everyone right now uses facebook and it is just normal for a company to utilize all possible means to make their product be above the rest.
