Cant play without purchasing a 60 day game card....

So I buy the game, install. Put in my CD Key to get my 30 days free go to play the game and what do I get??
"There is no active subscription on this account. Activate your account"
I don't use credit cards so my the only option I have is to purchase a 60 day game card in order to start playing my one month free.
This was never the case with Wow, LOTRO, Vanguard. Rift or any other MMO i have purchased. Once i purchased the CD key activates your account and lets you play the 30 days right away without having to put in a credit card or anything.
I mean ya I went back and bought the game card so I could play but damn does this sound fishy or what? How many people out of this million and and a half that preordered dont use credit cards and have to buy a game card to play..

I played wow, AOC and WAR and it was the case in each of those that I had to set up a sub upon activating the key.
you always have to set up a sub in mmo's..and really you should have checked before you purchased what you were getting into
Most people have credit or debit cards. Heck, if you have a checking account anywhere, you automatically get a debit card, which you can use as a credit card to subscribe to the game.
This must be the first MMO you've purchased so you learned a bit about how it works. You'll be prepared for the next one.

As far as I remember, thats how most MMOs are.
You could also set up and pay with a Paypal account. You just add your bank account to the Paypal account and you're done. Thats how I've done it. No need for credit cards or game cards.
You can contact support and give them your serial activation code and they get the game up and running for you.
Most decente companies will do this for you if you contact them.
Neve understood why they force us to choose a subscription plan.
To be honest, it's probably a good idea. It might at least cut down on some of the gold farming. From what I read the other day, though, the servers are already infested with them. So I guess that does mean the requirement hasn't done its job.

Actually, come to think of it, while I got that message, I was going to wait to put in my cc info and forgot. Yet I am playing now. Did they decide on some sort of grace period after all, or was the message there to "encourage" people to provide their info?
Been playing since beta, have yet to see a gold farmer,maybe your misinformed.

OP: another option; prepaid Visa card. If you don't subscribe, you can always go out to dinner or something.

Wait, did you have to pay for a sub right away, or is it simply asking you to setup a sub for the next month? Every mmo requires you to setup a sub thats p2p. If you don't use a credit card, you could jsut use some prepair card witha couple dollars in it, or pay pal. Just until the billing comes up at least, at which point just cancel it.
Edit: nvm misread the op.
All games for the last 13 years (Since EQ) have required you setting up an active subscription prior to play. You can cancel right after you set it up but it needs the account holders information on file for fraud issues (Which honestly is a smart thing).
Yeah, I remember even the DAOC TRIAL wanted a credit card for a while, I don't know if it still does, but I was amused at the time.

People confuse retail vs trial. When the games you mentioned were only available for retail they too required a CC to set up a sub. This usually changes once a trial is available.

Do they sell the game card at 711? What other stores other than bestbuy and gamestop do they sell it at?
Get a prepaid Visa.
I know in my area they sell them everywhere. I went into WalGreens drug store and got a $20 one for someone at our office xmas party.
Easiest way to do it IMO. And if you dont sub after the 1st month the money is still on there and you can use it anywhere. Unlike a game time card.

I went to the711 website and there is this thing called prepaid Debit card. Is it that one? It says i can use it for anywhere its likst plastic cash? Should i get that one?
Yeah pretty much.
The one I got had the visa logo and $20 on it, kind of like a gift card to somewhere. You can always ask when you check out to make sure.
And then just call the number on the back to activate it.
Pretty easy overall.
