I saw this http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/69768-pravums-defence.html on the mortal forums, and I'm curious how everyone on this forum thinks this event will fair.

"How the Emperor decides the final winner of the prize it ...up .... to.... Him."
Well at least this time they announce right away that it's all staged. So what do AQ win anyway? Can't find the prize.
Hi and welcome to the forums!!
Given how the previous event turned out... I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Lol, another PvP arena event.. I guess a welll planned PvE event is to much to ask for, specially considering there is no lore.
The structure of Pravum's Defence is inteded to give everyone a fair shake at getting through to Round 2.
We've picked small teams so you don't have to be in a large guild, we have restricted it to one team per guild to stop larger guilds skewing the results.
Gear will be dropped on the team leader to distribute. Mage regs will be limited.
Obviously would like this to go smoothly but we're planning for as many outcomes as we can think of.
I am of course, not saying this is bullet proof. Time will tell.
Still bruised from Sword of Tears and upset of course by some of the feedback, changes are being made to arena size and some additional tools for us which will come when there's a pause in AI/GUI. I hope the design of this event will avert some of the bad decisions in the last one. Again, time will tell.
Finally, I am holding a Focus Group Meeting later this week; to see if any of the testing team can see any holes too.

I say it will be a failure, just like every other event was.
At least SV are trying to do something. And they can admit that they are still learning and working to improve. I don't see anything wrong with that. In fact, I think it's better than most companies, especially in the niche realm of sandbox ffa pvp games.
(shudders) I really hope not, and have worked hard to design out some of the problems on SOT.

Thank you! And we're trying to expand Epic Weapons as fast as we can. There is some AI support that might come in early for us and we're looking at phsyical changes to the inner area of the arena too. I reallty want these to succeed so we can press on with more and more interresting and special items in the world.

Question, are there any reasons behind the heavy PvP focus of all the latest events? I mean, sure, kudos for doing at least something, but how come most "events" are just team fights.
You know, if SV had actally the idea (or the skill) to implement real quests in game, it would add a lot of content and keep players busy, specially for those who aren't thrilled by pure PvP.
speaking of EPIC weapons, some who played the early days of Everquest might remember the "epic quests" which ended in an epic weapon reward.
Those quests were awesome and lasted for entire months, years sometimes, requires coordination of groups and raids.
Those quests made you venture thru places that you ordinarily wouldn't have been to.
They were great and could keep you busy for so much time. Why doesn't MO have quests? please don't give me the "quests are for WOW, this is a hardcore sandbox game, quests are for wuss" answer.
Trust me, implement quests and you'll make people happy and won't even have to organise events to try to entertain the players, cause suddently players will have goals to achieve over days and months and won't be bored looking for something to PvP.
Once again, just take Skyrim as an example. Have Skyrim type quests...Or Everquest type quests (which are by no means : kill 5 pigs quest or collect 10 mushrooms)
Well at least this time when winners are picked that do not deserve to win they can say "Emperor did it" (Henrick).
@Troll Hard You know man I used to say the same things over and over when I first started the game but after 2 years it doesn't work anymore you will see.
@Theia like others have said why always pvp events? I know that basically it is only pvp heads in the game now that is why you did TC to give them the illusuion of something to do. When don't you think it is time for the actual sanbox people to get some love.
@Raffo, I played EQ as well. And I did an EPIC quest with my thief took me almost 2 months and about my whole guild to help me. If SV can not get prediction or AI working after 2 years what makes you think they can properly code a quest of that magnitude?
hehe you mean a Rogue as it was called...I remember the Ragebringer (name of the weapon) for Rogues was the easiest epic weapon to acquire, yet it took you 2 months. I played a ShadowKnight, perhaps the hardest Epic of all. So hard you would have everyone chasing you when you wielded it. Some shadowknights took over 2 years to finally get it.
Bottomline : Quests > events
In November we ran the Bakti-Bakeoff (a cookery comp) that was well recieved so part 2 of that will be announced this or next week at latest.
I agree it is very pvp at the moment, more to follow

PVP arena events are quick and easy to organise and aren't too badly affected by a tiny population. A big PVE event that doesn't just involve spawning groups of mobs outside a city would require a reworking of the AI, balancing, probably some new mob types andof course lore. Depending on how sophisticated you want it, it might also require scripting so its not another charge-in-and-wail-on-it-for-30-minutes fight.
Given how tiny MOs population is, and the size of the team, that represents a lot of effort per player who would be participating. It's a shame but SV have left themselves in a position where the ship has been sinking for too long and its now too late to dive under and fix the hole, all they can do is keep bailing like crazy
EDIT: This isn't intended as a slight on Theia who I'm sure has put time and effort into his Sword of Tears event, but an arena event is definitely the better choice for a tiny team running on empty and a small but close-knit population of PVPers.
I wish you luck and just wanted to say again that I really appreciate the more realistic attitude you have adopted. Now that you are looking at things from a more honest prespective, I think your events will improve greatly and become the kind of things you hoped they would become. I would ask you to keep an eye on the MO forums and gather any good feedback you can to help plan these future events. There were a lot of complaints for sure but there were also some very good ideas that could help make your job easier.
Good Luck.

they are still running non pvp focused events like this cook off event. What was the last mmo you played that let you have an actual cooking competition? before mo mine would of been UO.
there are 2 types of mmo, imitators and innovaters.
events no matter how they turn out is usaly a good thing, else you get what we have in every p2p mmo since eq1. 0 events
While not being as dynamic and rewarding (due to it beign very common), there are cooking quests in WoW. And monthly fishing contests. Not exactly the same, but.. just sayin'. Themeparks do what they can considering that can't really run live events on 100+ servers at same time.
But nonetheless, point taken.
Well, depends. Sure, you don't get same dynamic action in a themepark event as in an escort event in MO, but they (themeparks) do what they can considering they have lots of servers to take care of. The biggers titles have monthly scripted events for holidays, ect, which are often quite entertaining (atleast first couple of years..), while MO had you looking in bags for christmas presents., not much of an event there, eh? Then again, that too, is better than nothing.
So I guess I have to agree in the end with you, thou one can argue if not some scripted events are more entertaining due to its polish and story then some live event.
Sadly... the event was pushed back to the 14th.
Even sadder... they only got 32 people signed up for the big MMO Event (signups are locked now)... and some of those may not make it due to the delay

I think 32 is actually pretty good for MO, almost the whole player base will be there!
It was one of those damned if you do damned if you don't situations I'm afriad.
After the aptly named Sword of Tears it was deemed more important to get his event spot-on that to move ahead with a Risk.
That said we think we now have everyhitng covered off. So looking forward to the 14th!
This is of course Sandbox and anything can (and does) happen. I have allowed teams to make adjustments to their line-up as we have changed dates on them.
Worth saying there's also 'unannounced' things happening at the moment too....
