There was several 5+ servers tonight that never even reached high status. So there are more then enough servers for the time being.
No matter how many servers that add people flock to the higher pop servers. More servers does NOT fix que problems when people want to play on certain servers with there friends.
They have said from the start that they want the servers to have healthy populations. So they are only releasing servers as needed to meet the demand. Otherwise they will end up just like WOW with half the server listing setting at low pop 24/7.
1. Staggered early access jading a good 75% of the preorder playerbase.
2. Huge queues. Which is pointless, they will have to open new servers the 20th, may as well open enough now to avoid massive overpopulation.
3. Gave a list of 40 servers tues or wed, and said they'd go live the next day. They didn't. To date, only about 6 have.
4. Yes grace period. No grace period... okay SOME grace period!
5 zero communication from devs on their official forums, limited announcements on facebook. Most responses come from twitter and if you aren't on it, then you won't see them.
I'm sorry to waste your time with this post, but I've just had enough. I wanted a fair shot at my favorite MMO charnames, that got taken away due to staggered access, now I'm waiting for the servers they said they would be opening to try again. I've gotten only 5 or so hours of sleep the last 3 nights, as I just watch the forums and server status page for updates. Now it looks like it's going to extend into tomorrow, when my family is coming 3 hours to my house to celebrate my birthday.

Those are some pretty big claims... I urge you to look up the launch of Anarchy Online... Now that was a mess.
Personally i think it have been goin pretty well.. Not to bad ques for a new game that want to avoid the "lots of empty servers syndrome" and apart from some stutering in the server selectiuon screen ques have worked well for me (no random dropping or crashing) and once in game things have been silky smooth and bug free(apartf from some texture errors but that is because i have an older GFX card).

This is something you are doing on your own! So stop blaming this game! It's your own fault that you decide to stay up and watch the forum and try to access the game.
As said before, this is a early-access and not the official launch. By the time of the official launch, I think they will have added moe servers and upped the server limit capacity. If not... then you will have a larger queue hahahaha.
Thank god I didn't bought this game just for early access. It seems other games have though me not to buy the game anywhere near the first 1-2 weeks after official launch.
so just got back from playing got the the server list. my server was full. Said i had to wait roughly an hour so i was like whatever waited turned tv on. not 10 minutes later bam im in game. the only glitch or bug thats affecting me right now but not actually stopping me is animations sometimes i get locked in a crouch from picking up loot. or i get stuck with my lightsaber in a half draw pose. Not stopping me from playing but it does look weird lol

Listen I was an avowed SWTOR hater for the longest time as my post history will demonstrate. I always knew I would try the beta just to re-assure my hate was justified. Turned out I was wrong and I didnt get to pre-order till Nov 20th. I always knew even way then that they were trying a brand new approach to rolling out a new MMO. To great amazement it has succeded but I had to bide my time and wait 3 days later then someone who pre-ordered in July or August. Its the price I pay for being a hater instead of giving yet another themepark MMO the benefit of the doubt.
The only players who are jaded are the me first, microwave generation. You had your chance just like the others and if you dont like it then quit I am sure Bioware could care less if they lose a whiner.
The staggered approach is amazing and should be the gold standard for all future AAA releases because it keeps the servers stable, the player base spread out instead of bunched trying to kill the same mob, and in the end reduces or outright removes the possibility of merging servers due to opening up to many and not adjsuting to the inevitable player loss that comes after the free month is over.

TOO LATE! you already did. Anyone who whines about the things in the OP have:
1) Never seen a launch of another MMO.
2) Doesn't understand what a Launch is.
3) Has no clue that this launch is one of the most stable and polished, if not the MOST stable and Polished there has ever been...and we haven't really launched yet, thats Tuesday. This is called EARLY ACCESS!
Smoothest, fewest bugs and so far best EARLY ACCESS period of any game/mmo I have played.
Staggering is the entire point of the early access so to fill servers properly so they can mature. I can only assume that the servers with the queues (again I have yet to see one nor any of my guildies on our server) are because they are filled with the most newbs who can't leave the starter worlds fast enough to allow the population to spread out.
If a queue if large then talk to your guild and move to another server. The guild placement was a best attempt feature and even Bioware mentioned as much. I know queues suck but if many servers have no queue then it is your own fault sticking to one with a queue.
well the server i was playing on was american its the one that had the queue but the europian one i play on with my guild always has abit of extra room
Darkfall was the most poorly executed launch. They literally lost 100k sales on not being able to sell digital copies of their game because they refused to open more then one server or make a server capable like Eve to support the playerbase interested.
Everything I say is my opinion or personal preference. You may or may not find it useful to your cause but regardless I am entitled to it.

Yeah, Wow had server queues... Wait, it had for months...
If you seriously think this is bad this must be one of your first launches. You should have seen Vanguard and AO instead.
Any time you get before the 20th is just a bonus thing, M'OK?
Some of my friends decided to roll Republic. They have a 45 minute queue on their server. It's kinda funny because they made alts on my server, and I see them logging on all the time to play. May as well re-roll servers if you have to wait 45 minutes to log in lol.
Everything is fine so far on my server. 26 ms and no queues yet!

the que is logical in official launch
fan of SWG, XCOM, Defiance, Global Agenda, Need For Speed, all Star Wars single player games. And waiting the darn STAR CITIZEN

I have been sitting here patiently staring at my download screen for over 10 hours now.....I'm so hyped up on my 26th cup of coffee it ain't even funny.

Honestly if they have that long queues with the whole stagering crap, then its really pathetic.

But it's a hell of a hype machine!
It doesn't matter its a preorder, if they don't have the number of customers its because they are moronic or just don't give a fuck. If they have the number they know how much server they need. Not to add the fact that they have to put more server for the launch since they can't have that number, they simply cannot know how much will sell in shop, they have evaluations though; that are pretty good tbh. But for the preorder they do have very precise number, so if they screw up, it really is because they want. It really is time to stop being stupid fan boys and defend this kind of stuff, and i don't only talk about swtor or even themepark fan boys, but every single damn mmo. They can't even do a preorder correctly since a decade and half, are those guys stupid or what? no honestly. Do they have anyone working on those things? it really seam they don't and just working on guesses. For a 130 million $ project? seam utterly wrong to me. I mean they can't even have their preorders play all at the same time damn it, those guy literally gave them their money blinded.
If you consider this the most poorly executed launch in MMO history, I would have to question how many launches you have participated in. I've been kind of dissapointed, because the usual launch week festivities haven't been taking place. Server crashes, severe lag spikes, sync issues, etc etc. Normally thats all a part of launch, and they haven't had that (at least I haven't experienced it).
Yes, I definitely question your MMO street cred, when you say this is the worst ever.
This, though I guess it probably is the worst launche in mmo history for him since hes likely not old enough to have been around for any of the other actual horrid launches, like wows.
Apparently stating the truth in my sig is "trolling" Sig typo fixed thanks to an observant stragen001.

Ya, I truly laugh at these people. Have you seen any other MMO launch, or are you just starting a title, to sound familiar with all these other whiners. It has been one of the best, if not the best MMO launches I ve been involved in.
2. Huge queues. Which is pointless, they will have to open new servers the 20th, may as well open enough now to avoid massive overpopulation.
Half the servers are on medium or low load, so roll on these servers and stop rollling on the healvy load servers.
3. Gave a list of 40 servers tues or wed, and said they'd go live the next day. They didn't. To date, only about 6 have.
They have more than enough servers at the moment, how many servers YOU need to roll toons on?
4. Yes grace period. No grace period... okay SOME grace period!
2 days grace period is more than enough, they are basically giving EVERYONE 2 days of free gametime, the companies ALL received their copies and will have them available on the 20th, if you cannot afford to get your copy between the 20-22nd, then it is not EAs fault, this is not a charity, it's a gaming company.
5 zero communication from devs on their official forums, limited announcements on facebook. Most responses come from twitter and if you aren't on it, then you won't see them.
They are busy trying to provide us with a great game, this is one of the biggest launches of a game, so don't expect them to respond to your unfounded cries because you think you deserve it, the game is not out yet officially, and you are not a paid customer yet. When the game officially releases, and they are still providing the same kind of support, believe me, I will be the first raising my voice. In the meantime, I would rather have them dedicate all their working force on getting the game fixed and ready than tweeting and facebooking.

Umm Star Wars TOR HAS NOT LAUNCHED YET. Launch date is the 20th.
THIS IS EARLY ACCESS, NOT OFFICIAL LAUNCH.
The game runs mint. It is more bug free than most mmos out for years.
They trickled people into EARLY ACCESS to have a secure start to the flood of people.
This was one of the BEST launches in MMO history because it all works great and it HAS NOT LAUNCHED YET.
Hellgate London says OP's thread title is full crap!

So i have to say that you are way out of line,
This have been a good conversation
Lol , I must really laugh out loud about these posts about how great, or not great the launch is of SWTOR...
There is only one MMORPG that has the best launch in history and that is RIFT.....
[mod edit]
All companies can take an example how to launch a mmorpg on Trion...
Amen.
Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.

WoW had a worse lunch than SWTOR by far, and people suck its teet daily.
