Considering buying..

FALLOUT 3

Two people at work have told me it is a really good game but they are ... I would rather get a public opinion. Who here has played it and what did you think (can you rate it out of 5 stars - 5 being awesome 1 being horrible) for me ... Just so I can gage the real public opinion before going out and spending money!

I would rate it a solid 4 1/2 stars. It's a very open game but if you get it make sure the version you get comes with all of the DLC. If you don't it will be 'game over' once you finish the main quest. The first DLC expansion fixes this issue.

I did not enjoy Fallout 3 much.

Fallout 1 and 2 were my favorite games of all time and at first Fallout 3 seemed to be great, but then I started feelin locked in and the content wasn't very in depth. It's not an open game and it's quite linear.

With that said, it was an OK game and may be worth the price now that it's gone down. Def worth the price.

Also, if you haven't played Fallout: New Vegas, I would absolutely buy that instead. It's a much better game by a considerable margine. It's more true to the original 1 & 2 and is much more open, has alot more quests, and the storyline is worlds better. (Did Fallout 3 even have a story line? /sarcasm)

For the price you can pick Fall Out 3 for today, I would say it is quite a bargain and you cant go wrong, unless of coarse you hate that style of game.

LOL... In FO 3 you can go literally anywhere right from the start. Not so with FO: NV as if you don't follow the predetermined path to Vegas laid out by the devs by doing the main storyline you'll die pretty fast. In my opinion NV was far more linear than FO 3 was. Sure the game opens up a little once you get to Vegas but by then you've done half of the main quest. Don't get me wrong as I loved both games and still play them to this day but to say FO 3 was more linear than FO: NV is just silly.

Can't go wrong with Fallout 3. It's a good game and it's a bargain at the price you can get it. Look for package deals of the game with all DLC included.

You should watch Yahtzee's review of the game on Escapist magazines Zero Punctuation

If I knew how to add a link I would.

Its something i'd recommend to anyone, definately pick up the edition with all the DLC tho if you do decide to get it.

I'm surprised no one has already mentioned that the quest system, exploration and general progression is essentially the same as in oblivion (and now skyrim). They are very different games, but the design similarities are blatently obvious.

Without a doubt it is the best non-fantasy open world RPG to come around for a long time.

    4.5 stars from me

Fallout 3, or Fallout New Vegas are both great games in their own ways.

I would definetly suggest checking either one out, as they are pretty open as far as the world goes, many choices to be had, and well, I just find them extremely fun.

In the end it is your decision to get what you want, so you can listen to the different viewpoints of others, or just watch some youtube videos/read about it and decide for yourself!

If you really like Fallout 3/New Vegas, then maybe check out Elder Scrolls Oblivion...or the newest Skyrim, because they are very similar in style, open world, dialogue choices, quests...I also think they are all made by the same people?  Elder Scrolls is just "dragons and knights fantasy" while fallout is "post apocolyptic fantasy".

    Enjoy!

FO3 is a good buy I give it a solid 4.5 out of 5. While I liked 1 & 2 FO3 is what brought popularity to the FO series and for good reason.

    Definitely better than FO: NV
