TSWs PvP Warzones (persistent 24/7 minigames)

sacredfoolsacredfool Member UncommonPosts: 849

Anyone else quite excited (and I am not really a PvPer) about seeing if they can deliver what they promise?

Basically:

A persistent zone where you can PvP

Each has an objective

You queue for it like for a minigame

High population cap (even 50 people per faction = 150 people on map)

I don't get it, you said "persistent 24/7 minigames"

but in the link you posted the dev says:

"On a personal note: I'd be very surprised if the warzones play anything like any minigame. We're talking lots of players, in a zone which is open 24/7. Strategy will be of great importance, as there are multiple capture points. I expect domination will require strong leadership, group builds and a good execution of it, a concept of army/battalion/squadron/soldier, cunning and communication."

I don't think they are going with minigames in their persistent 24/7 warzones....minigames usually get a lot of hate from the community

    Well, how to put it?

They are still maps for which you queue and you get teleported to, where you PvP against other factions to accomplish some objective like  "Capture the flag". So, they are minigames, but they won't play like the current crop of minigames we know as they have no time-limits....

I'm sorry, what were you saying?  I was busy wiping drool off my chin and tears of joy from my eyes.  They had me at 'strategy'.  I'll even tolerate time in vent for pvp like that.

Looks like daoc/war RvR zone. It can be brilliant with 3 factions.

no there not you have it completly wrong.

    pvp in The Secret World.

FFA fight clubs in every city

Stonehenge mini game which is a king of the hill rule set

El Dorado mini game which is a capture the flag rule set, but with 4 flags.

Shambala mini game, which is a ranked arena fight to the death

Unspecified number of warzones, which are AREAS OF THE OPEN WORLD just like PVE areas.

You travel to the warzones via agartha (the underground world tree zone thing) just like you do with the PVE zones, ordinarily you dont queue for them, they are not timed matches like say Lake Wintergrasp in WOW.

However, there is a cap on players per side that can take part in a warzone at a given time, for performance reasons if your side is full, you have to queue then (you dont have to sit queueing until the other 2 sides are full, if one of the other sides can only muster up 10 players - tough luck)

Each warzone contains FOUR end objectives.  For example, the Chinese City warzone has a Temple and a base for each of the 3 socities, If a given society holds 2 objectives they currently own that terrioroty, but they must defend it (agian its not a Lake Wintergrasp style match).  You don't have to hold the temple to hold the teritory, you could own one of the other sides bases.

Each warzone gives a faction wide buff to the society that owns it (including PVE players).  Holding all warzones additionally gives the given society a "mega-buff"

The queue part had me worried, but glad to see it's just to avoid overcrowding, and not your standard minigame queue.  That would kill it for me.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
