Some idiot goes ape shit in a cash shop and its the games fault. Some idiot trips over his own feet in a parking lot and its the business owners fault. Some idiot has an idiot kid that sticks his hand in the gorrila cage and its not the idot kids fault or his idiot parents fault, its the zoo that is at fault.  Idiots need to own their own shit and stop blaming "the man" for their bad genes.

Really? This game sucks and Im not having fun? Im going to unsub right now. Thanks for the tip.

At which point, you think, adults have to be able to make their own decisions? I certainly agree that some addiction-inducing techniques, substances, etc have to be controlled and regulated, but... F2P games? Are you also for banning lotteries? Stock exchange/forex exchange trading? Tobacco and alcohol? Sport shoes for those addicted to running and training equipment for addicted to heavy weight lifting? Drill bits for DIY affictionados (my wife forbids me to go into instrument shops because I HAVE to buy some additional small thingie there... a drill bit of a diameter I don't have, for example...) Chicken? What about chicken? I'm addicted to chicken. Are we to ban chickens?

I see people spending millions on a necklace that has a diamond just because a dude said hundreds of years ago that they are precious....whats up with that??? If i had millions i wouldnt go spending them on a shinny piece of rock. But some people do. Its life, its a matter of taste, opinion, or just because you dont give a shit when you do have the money.

Doesn't affect me in the least.  If I don't want to play around those people, I don't play the game.  If there are no games I think are worth playing, I don't play one at all.  The real issue here are the entitlement-happy asshats who think the world owes them something to do on their terms.  It doesn't.  These are the games that are available.  Take it or leave it.  Just stop whining about it.

The one thing that always strikes me about threads like this is the fact that the people who bitch and whine about it are the ones who can't afford to do it.  They're not opposed to it because it's available, but because they can't afford to drop the money to get the stuff themselves.

Maybe if they stopped playing these idiotic games so much and got jobs, they could afford it!

Yes, this is what pathological opportunist profeeteers say too.

While one can play with words and try to turn meanings around that does not mean that the behavior is justified nevertheless, because what is important is not what is being said, but the reasoning of what is being said.

The example here is exactly the same as someone going around with a bag full of 500ml water bottles during Catrina Disaster charging 100$ per bottle to people who are in need of it.

It is no different than someone charging the price of a house for a loaf of bread to people starving.

It is taking advantage of people, pure and simple, out of greed.

So yes, while it is the right of everyone to spend their money as they wish, this does not mean that we have the right to samm people for it.

It is pathetic and it is immoral.

You think that whomever is behind this will be called a hero now for finding a way to get rich? In my book they are pathologically ill.

There is a huge difference between charging someone obscene amounts for water and especially during a disaster and charging someone for a silly game.

If the person who is spending large amounts of money is doing so because they have some pathological need to do so then they need help.

That's something entirely different. It's a shame but if someone can afford some sort of "virtual" item and it won't put them out then it's not my business. If they can't and it bankrupts them then it's a different sort of bird and they have some sort of addiction.

But that's up to that person to get help. I'm not going to start outlawing casinos or alcohol just because someone can't recognize that they need help.

If you are not willing to see the difference here then that's your thing. but your example doesn't hold water with me. And I'm a liberal.

Companies like this are the new dope dealers. I wonder how many of the people spending the 1k on a few bytes did so with a big smile on their face.

I'll let you in on a little secret.  Sales of virtual goods have been increasing over the past several years, and they will continue to do so as people spend more time connected to our now online world.  If you want to freak out about money spent on games, go look into Entropia Universe. In some cases tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars have been spent there. I'd try it out if I didn't think I needed to spend a fortune in cash or in time to get involved.

A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.

Yea, if it's way too expensive - just throw it away. For example, i love Atlantica Online, i find it great, unique, but the fact that it would cost me hundreds per month to be competitive is a huge turnoff, so i've easily quit it. It's a silly game afterall, there are thousands of others, and there will always be. Yes, if another company would build such a game on a P2P model i'll be there for sure but again, it's a game, i'm not gonna spend a serious ammount of my earnings on some pixels. The comparison with starving people is way way off.

I can't even remotely relate to mentally handicap people these days let alone someone who complains about F2P. THE GAME IS FREE TO PLAY, ANY ADVANCEMENTS THAT GIVE A UPPERHAND AT A FASTER PACE ARE PAID OPTIONS. The example the OP gave is a prime example if that content being distributed QUICKER, at a price. YOU PAY for services that allow for FASTER advancement. In your imaginary world the game that is totally free no cash shop, no advertisements, no money being made from anything (even if it is community controled and reasonably priced) is free. Anything with some sort of $0.01 item inside even if it sucks and you go pyscho and start screaming its unfair. Simply put, DON'T play. Let the thousands of others enjoy themselves, spend their money how they want to. They don't need help, and most of them WANT the item presented to them. If I gave out a Rolls Royce Custom Built for $700k to people who wanted it, and they bought it and you being HONDA started screaming bloody murder because I got customers to buy my item is stupidity in the finest. No one wants you honda, leave now before you further embarass yourself with your GREED.

How you greedy? Simple, you see any type of profit or advancement made by a company as illegal. As people aren;t handing you cash for you masterbating in your imaginary world you think that corporations that provide products and services people buy and demand are the criminals. The criminal here sir is YOU! Justifying your reaction other than shear jealousy for the people who could buy such items, you post about how this should be illegal. YEAH, because you THIRST to spend that kind of money that you don't have on a game. Plain and sweet, you are jealous of both the company who made the money and the people who spent the money. Good going for admitting it, you are now 1 step closer to recovery.

Useless to waste my time on the same mind, different person. If money isn't flowing to me and the world isn't entire dictated and fair to me (by use of government force) then I just can't sleep at night. That example fits you so well go outside and realize that people that work to buy expensive things and luxuries aren't lazy like you. They use their resources well to earn those items, and the same for F2P players. Jealous I can dump $40k into a game? Go to therapy man, if I decide that I want to smack down some scrubs on a game I find worthy to spend money on, then well hell. Don't ruin my fun just because you cry and can't do it.

And yeah, if you have any question about my type of games, I am ultra picky about what I play and what I spend my money on. You can't justify that I'm a "Average" cash shop person. In fact, there are only 2 games I would ever buy cash shop from and both are entirely pay 2 win and extremely satisfying as I crush noobs. NO, I will not be patronized that I could feed the hungry with my money, I already donate what I want to poverty stricken people and even YOU wouldn't spend more than what you thought was charitable (above 10% of monthly income) helping poverty. Your justifcation for anything of decent retaliation just flew out the window. As for that company being supported by me, no way. Unless they follow my strict set guidelines for F2P then they won't see my advocate for them. My entire post was based on how I HATE idiots that complain about not having enough money to satisfy their fantasy on F2P games.

I struggle not with life, money, emotions, and world, but against old mindsets and selves to be proven obsolete in a age and time of rapid changes. Go create fun, so you can have fun.

You have no idea about my cash flow. Whether someone can afford to pay an amount is no point at all.

Role playing games are that... you step into another world, where you are not bounded by the limitations you have in your "pathetic" life. Games make it possible for an Indian-based outcast to roleplay he is the richest in the world. And starting on equal terms he might be able to do that.

Selling this kind of commodities is against the very nature of why there are games. You don't step into a casino with an extra deck of cards because you "can afford it". You play on equal terms.

I have read through his thread laughing and shaking my head. Laughing because some of the statements are so true, plain, and simple. Shaking my head because this thread even exists. Pitiful.

I find it interesting that the people that complain about this think that they should be the arbiters of what should be in someone else's game. They know what is "fair." I also shake my head as these same people get in an uproar about a game. A game. All the world is unfair because a game is not exactly how you want it. Never mind being an adult and simply choosing the game you want to play. Complain. Whine. Moan. The adult thing to do is simply not play. The market would take care of itself. But just like there are people willing to drop an insane amount of money on a game (foolish and stupid imho but hey...do your thang chicken wang), there will be people who whine, moan, and complain about how other people spend their money on a game. That is simply pathetic.

But hey...you're free to whine just like I'm free to hate on that whining. Ahhh...the freedom of the internet. Gotta love it.

I like how every one blames the companies and corporate greed. They wouldn't be able to sell these things if people weren't buying them. In the end it's their own business what they do. Try not to be such a judge/jury!

I make a point of never trying any game by Bigpoint, but I see no reason to prevent them from selling those things to players who have more money than sense.

(A point that can be reached either from having too little sense or too much money. Bill Gates could be the most sensible person on the whole planet, he would still have more money than sense :) )

F2P is here to stay. It's too luctrative and too many people unsatisfied with RL willing to pour their moolah into creating a false sense of accomplishment.

When you're playing these F2P games, you either pay up to compete with the competition, or play for free. When a company adds an item like this the player either needs to give up their competition, and thus (partially) the investment they made in their game or pay this ridiculous prize.

I really wonder if something can be done about the morales of such a company. This isn't smart business, this is doing business without morale, plain and simple.

I think the word you're looking for is ethics. Even then, the value of something is what people are willing to pay for it. Just because it is of little or no value to you doesn'tmean it isn't of certain value to others.

That aside, were 2,000 sold or did they say they have 2,000 they will sell?
