You know your MMO is dying when....

your game just went F2P

there are more developers than players

merging servers didn't work because nothing + nothing, is surprisingly still nothing

even the gold farmers have left

the last newbee you met told you he downloaded the wrong game

you start talking to your alts

your own MMO forum needs to use banner ads from other MMO to pay for it

the new expansion is appropriately called "Forsaken Lands"

you're the only person not at the local tavern

by the time someone responds to you in server chat, you're usually logged off

there are 2 guilds on the server, the one you just left..and you

no one knew the servers were down until you told everyone on the forum

the servers won't be up until monday because it's week-end

add your own =)

Everyone you've labeled a good developer has been laid off and now their family is starving, until they get food stamps, and then everyone they know calls them useless bums reliant on the state, and then they eventually kill themselves.

    And...

They purchase a dual sided banner on mmorpg.com

I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.

The game becomes popular with gamers that should be playing games from another genre.  As those gamers grow in number, the developers listen more to them than the gamers the game was designed for...

I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

Yeah, it sucks to play a dying game

Almost every game that has gone freemium has seen much sucess in comparison to remaining P2P. So, that part is obviously wrong.

LOTRO wasn't a dying game when it went F2P. So nope i disagree. F2P is actually more profitable than sub model for lots of companies.

Why is there no freakin quote option when typing a reply? Its like the only damn option this forum doesnt have.

Rift is free by the way right now if you get the standard edition without the first 30 days free.

You can quote parts of a person's post...quote the whole and snip it.

The company plans on releasing an expansion centering around black and white caniforms and expects to get good sales.

Well i am pretty sure that some companys doing this will sell more copies of the expansion then most games will sell of their main game at release... So i guess good sales is a relative term.

But you know your MMO is dying when... Not even the die-hard's att MMORPG.com can be botherd to defend it.

But F2P is actually not a sign of the game dying, it is the sign of the game beinga bit shallow though.

This have been a good conversation

You know your MMO is dying when they finally start making the changes the majority have been screaming for but the minority of 'hard core' pvpers and raiders have screamed against.

    Looking at you, Rift.

I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.

...when my gf says: "hey, how many laps you already did around that fountain??"

...when the npc quest giver says: "So, now that you killed 10 boars, you will have to prove your might by slaying 10 more of those, 10 rabbits, 1 chicken, find the stolen pearl, deliver it to the old woman outside and cook the dinner"

...when after the so long awaited expansion comes out and after you play it the first couple of days you find yourself doing exactly the same stuff...but now your weapon glows and the chickens are bigger...

...when ppl start to Q up to do stuff in hard mode because the normal mode is old...ITS THE SAME FRIKING THING; ONLY THAT THE MOBS HAVE MORE HP, ARMOR, etc etc...

...when its called World of Warcraft...

When you don't have the manpower to change your "meet the development team" page after you've already laid most of them off.

You can't actually remove the names of the developers from developers' page even if they don't work here anymore. I mean, if I spent couple of years on the project, and then was laid off - that's a life. But remove my name from the list of the list of people who developed it - I won't take it silently!

You know your MMO is dying when....You make more from banner ads than you do from subscriptions

You know your MMO is dying when....You are running around and see another player...and think its an NPC you missed last time you were there

  • Cod_EyeCod_Eye Member UncommonPosts: 1,016

You know when your MMO is dying when everybody on the forum says I remember when I played that game.

You are the only person defending the latest expansion/update

You dont know anyone in the forums who plays it

They sell the core game and all 5 expansions for $9.99

The sale of nappies drop in China
