Actually there were many classes in everquest 1 that had no trouble soloing 1 to max -- especially in the "golden days of EQ1" which is what people usually are thinking of vs the current days.

I mean currently ANYONE can solo 1-max due to hiring mercenaries etc.

But regardless -- the old everquest:

Necro -- these guys soloed really well.

Druid -- They didnt even need to kite to solo -- thorns up.  They could kite pretty much any rare they could track.  Quad kiting when they nerfed the dots enough.

Shaman -- Could even solo some fierce targets face to face due to their slows.

Beastmaster (which wasnt at launch of course) soloed even better than the shaman and druid.

Bards could charm kite -- it was dangerous but they could make a ton of exp solo.

    ----

Really it was only the tanks and warriors that soloed really badly.  Warriors,  Shadowknights, Paladins, Monks, Rangers.

Enchanters and Mages at launch had issues soloing but it was possible -- eventually mage pets became strong enough to allow for it better.

Pure clerics could really only solo undead.

Besides PLing of course, it was still more effiicient in most cases to group... more beneficial too for receiving gear higher end.  The game actually took some work... not collect 8 items on the ground and turn it in for 1/20th your level and receive an upgrade to your gear.

Yes, but it was not as efficient.  The main difference is you could not go grab a quest that requires you to do about nothing... and get 1/20 your level or more and a free upgrade to your gear... you had to put effort into it.  And of course once people became better at the game they were able to do more easily.

For example, I recall on my server with luclin, KEI and aego made it much more efficient to level, however you had to spend a good bit (100pp) to get  that, which is a lot of money for people who started with luclin.  And even soloing, your spells got resisited and broke early making it more difficult to lvl.

Other games, resists rarely, press a button for a spell, 99% of the dots are instant cast, you eat/drink to gain hp/mana.  There is nearly no delay between killing.  The benefit of a group was the delay could possibly be removed because while the caster may be medding the melee dps, tank and healer are still ready. No risk for dying other than having to run to corpse that you do not have to even loot, and you have to take 12-18 secs to regain full hp and mana... and you do not need to rebuff from other players because that is not going to make it much more efficient at all.
