Why are you arguing for these ads?  I dont understand how having the ads benefits you at all.  Is it that you enjoy having all the boobs everywhere?  I dont understand what the problem is in just getting different ads.

Because the ads aren't the problem here. They shouldn't have to get different ads since there is nothing wrong with the current ones. If it's so important for your future to have the help of people who will creepily peer over your shoulder to see what's on your screen, then don't look at the site when those people are sitting behind you. The people who run this site can't please everyone, and it's better for them to have slightly provocative ads and make more money than for you to just not look at the site for 2 minutes before class starts because you're paranoid some stranger is going to be the person who helps you make it big in life.

Half of the posters in this thread have commented on the issue, so its not just me.  And will you be displeased if an ad doesnt have boobs on it?  Do you go to amazon.com or any other website and go "Damnit, I'm never going to use this site again, not enough tits."

I don't care or notice if an ad is provocative or not. I'm a straight male, but it doesn't even occur to me to notice the boobs there. I guess I'm just used to the internet. The ads on this site are not even close to porn...they are slightly sexually provocative at worst.

I do understand how some of the ads might make someone feel awkward at work due to that slight sexual content. The asian girl in the Crystal Saga ad looks like an adult to me. There is nothing to indicate that she is meant to be a youth. Maybe people who aren't used to seeing japanese anime think anime girls look like children, when that's just how anime girls look, regardless of the character's age. Anyway, I would be displeased if this site had to censor it's ads due to a few complainers exaggerating the problem, just as I am displeased when the moderators on this site goes overboard with censoring posts.

I know half the posters in this thread have commented on this issue. Is changing the ads really the only solution, so that half can look at this site during a lunch break? That seems like such a big change for a small problem.

And I'm not the one that created the thread.  I'm not saying that my eyes pop to them and I cringe every time I see one.  I disagree on the Crystal Saga girl though, she does seem very young, but then again that is eastern culture.  A lot of 18+ girls there could pass off as 15.

The only use I see for ads like that is "My game sucks, heres some boobs to make you not notice."  Pretty much it.  I ultimatly dont care one way or another if they end up changing them.  If it ends up bothering me enough I'll just stop using the site all together.  I wont be missing much as I havnt seen a truely civil discussion in a long time.  (Though this one isnt going the way most end up).

In the end, there are plenty of other places to get my MMO news.  And really, its not that hard of an issue to fix.  MMORPG.com doesnt make the ads I'm sure.  Its more likely that they use a service that just puts all the ads in.  All they have to do is pass a check and thats it.

Besides, who has been pursuaded by any of these ads into playing that game?

My "favorite" is the Caesary one (which happened to pop up next to this text box) and the AoC one. Sheesh. Nothing screams "My game is bad" like selling that with it.

P.S. Boobs are good things, however.

Actually, I think there is a target audience for the ads, and I think that the target audience responds to the ads. Otherwise, i don't think we would see the ads at all. The ads would fail and the company would try a different type of ad. The ads work to bring in people. That's why we see them.

I completely agree that if I see an ad on this site or any site for "big tit online" like Caesary or Crystal Saga, that ad has just told me with 99.9% certainty that the game is absolute garbage. So I agree with you on this point. But you and I are not the target audience. There are people who see those ads and think, "Hey, why not give it a shot," even though the game is going to end up being just another RMT RTS generic piece of crap. People do play these games. mmorpg.com makes money by the ads bringing in those people. I see this as a legitimate reason for having the ads.

Since I don't see anything visually wrong with the ads myself (meaning the ads aren't too sexual for me), then I don't think people wanting to avoid feeling awkward at work for a few minutes is enough of a reason for mmorpg.com to shut off itself from that ad revenue. Should this website forgo advertising 24 hours a day to horny teenage idiots just so that a few people can view this site with no awkwardness during their lunch break? It seems to me like they are losing more than they are gaining if they do that.

Obviously though if people like you stop using this site altogether because of the ads, then mmorpg.com has bigger problems and the ads should go. I guess I just don't think the ads are bad enough to cause that. I could be wrong.

    Edited for clarity only.

Maybe your right then about the target audience.  I wasnt even aware that there were people that naive.  But I would really like to see a study or something that knows the effectiveness of ads like that on fourms like this one.  Whats the average number of clicks per day on them as compared to other ads, and how do these ads compare to ones like the Vindictus ad that has game footage in it, or the LOTRO / Rift ads that just have cool art.

I personally hate the political correctness of todays western society.   Being afraid of what someone else will think just because it's an ad on a website? What about television, and magazines? When is the last time anyone has seen some fat ugly ape of a woman washing the turd stains out of her drunkard husbands underwear on the cover of Good Housekeeping? It's always some airbrushed bimbo who only graces the cover of the magazine because she's a trophy wife that has nothing to do but write stories about how to really make your cookies crumble.

People don't read magazines, or watch TV, or play videogames, or browse the internet for a fun dose of reality. They want to see the grass that's greener on the other side. They want to see big jugs tightly wrapped under clothing that nobody would rightly wear. They want to see what they can't have or can't be.  They want to feel that beastial urge remind them that they are still human, and humans are really just animals in denial.

So when that nosy snobfaced douche looks over your shoulder and says " Eww, why do you read that crap " just look them straight in the eye and say " because otherwise I'd have to look at you " ²

Its hard to tell whats an ad though sometimes.  Specifically the ones that encompas the header of the website. I dont normally see websites go so far as to sell their entire header and background as adspace.

And only a certain market wants to see that.  The female market wants to see it because of what you said, "I could be like this" type of stuff.  Just like rednecks watch WWE because "I could be that big and strong and kick ass!" when everyone knows its fake.

What works for one company may not work for another. There are any number of perfectly fine reasons why those sites run more tasteful ads than some of the ads on this site, assuming their ads are more tasteful as you say.

The ads too risqué?  Browse the entertainment portions of the internet at your own risk and assume the repercussions. Don't impose your moral code, or at least do so through tangible means (surfing/buying elsewhere). Does the sight of cleavage upset you? Then perhaps you're living in the wrong time, and in the wrong place (vapid consumerism is the norm in the industrialized world).

I can't beieve the fuss over the Asian art style either. Some people are almost making Japan and South Korea out to be nations where the rape of children is government sanctioned. Perhaps they've just got enough brain matter to distinguish fiction from reality?

This part of your post is so absurd and wrong, I can't even fathom where to begin. How about you do at least a tiny bit of research before trying to argue. You cannot possibly be that oblivious to how women are treated in Asian culture; let's just say it's not something women in the west want to strive for. On the contrary, Asia is slowly becoming more like us, not vice versa.

I don't want to see them because, quite honestly, I am tired of having boobs shoved in my face from what seems like everywhere nowadays. Christ now I cannot even read up and discuss games and MMOs without being assaulted by flashing boob and crotch. It's damned everywhere, and it insults my intelligence. When a merchant uses such blatant 'sexvertising' tactics #1 - I think their product must suck because they need to resort to such inane methods to draw in customers, and #2 - I go out of my way to avoid/not purchase their product on principle.

I get it, sex sells and all that. I just feel bombarded by it lately by all types of advertisers across all media, it's like they have run out of ideas and so they just use the old standby - sexual innuendo. At this point I feel so saturated by it that it's having the opposite effect, I feel disgust for the merchant/product when I see it being sexvertised.

Moral outrage aside (whether justified or not), I could personally do without seeing some of those more risque ads. There's a time and a place for everything, even online. If I'm looking for T&A, I'm not going to look for it on this site, or even Caesary. But ultimately, it's a personal opinion. Which is why, when I feel the ads are getting out of hand on this site, I personally un-whitelist this site on my adblock/noscript settings for awhile.

And I gotta say it for my self... I do not agree with you on the female market part. It's totally unrealistic and it's clearly just an assumption. I don't see why any girl would want to dress up like an anime chineese wh***, it's repulsing and fugly (hell I don't even see why asian market likes it so much).

Other than that I'm fine with ads, I don't really take anything personally... It's just people trying to make some money to run this awesome web site and I support it 100%.
