Surely one of the poll choices should be "I already own an iphone 4 and don't see the point in buying an iphone 4S"? Because all iphone 4S doesn't have any amazing new features, I'm actually very surprised that Apple didn't only launch the ios5 for just the new apple products like the iphone 4S and ipad 2. Apple actually being nice to their customers, that's something you don't see very often...

    Absolutely not

People complain about Windows being greedy. They do tend to be, no argument there, but Apple makes them look like Kris Kringle.

Apple products tend to be priced 25-50% more than their competitors, on systems with identical performance specifications. Their products are made to work only with other Apple products and software as opposed to allowing for third party programming and manufacturers. Their only saving grace is an easy learning curve, but for those of us who are fairly technically competent, this factor is a nonissue, and in fact can be a major hassle for anyone wanting to move away from the standard interface.

Aside from my inclination to boycott Apple products, I don't use smartphones. The apps offer nothing I can't wait to get at a standard computer, and they are too vulnerable to wear and tear for my line of work. I use a Motorola Brute, a standard clamshell type of phone built to military specifications. Overkill perhaps, but it beats watching my phone get ruined because of a spare bit of dirt, water, or grease.

Say what? You mean all apps are required to be Silverlight or XNA which requires VB or C#? That's basically the only thing I hate about WP7 and the reason why there's a Rage on iPhone but never will be for WP7, Microsoft isn't allowing native code to run on it. Hopefully they change that in WP8.

For the OP, still using my iPhone 4 but will probably upgrade to a 4S. Just undecided on what carrier to go with since I will be switching carriers from AT&T when I do.

Apple is losing ground and their platform is pretty much Anti-Developer.

It seems weird that a company who's slogan for their product is "There's an App for that!" would make it so hard for developers to actually develop products for their device.

As such, Android is actually pulling ahead in US and World Market shares by quite a bit. Android is a much better platform, has much better apps (now at least), and is actually accessable to developers and the unix/linux literate without jailbreaking it.

I bought the iPhone 3GS the week it was released and I bought an Android about a year later. I kept my iPhone Jailbroke, which is a major pain in the butt.  But with the Android, every reason I had to jail break my iPhone comes standard on Android Devices. (other than a completely free pirated app store, lol) You can do the same thing to Android, it's called "rooting", but I've never felt the need for it. 0

My cell phone still works and no way i'm paying so much money for one. I'd rather replace mine with a 50-100 euro costing cellphone, cba with all the little gizmo's anyway.

I don't own one, and don't plan to. I'm fine with my iPad 2.

    Thanks,

  • I'm way behind the curve on this kind of stuff. I know the apps available on iPhones are regulated by Apple and such, are the apps you can get there generally available in some form somewhere else to non-iPhone users?

Yep, take a look at the Android series for instance, far more choices are available there.

Nope, the iphone is a great toy, awesome games available for it. Up until recently this would be the only reason to choose one over a 'droid. The new ics OS for android should allow for them to compete with better gfx etc

Beyond that for a contract phone, it's pretty abysmal that the iphone 4 tarrifs are nowhere near as competitive on the actual phone cost for cheapest tarrifs.

Oh yeah, the vid made me smile :)

Getting one when the pay check come through. One thing i will say for them is you HAVE to jailbreak to get the most out of them.

Yeah, see that's what I don't understand. I fully agree, but I found a better alternative.... Android.

I owned the 3GS and had it jailbroke the entire time. I spent about a week after accidently updating my Firmware, before a crack was released and I remember thinking about how much the iPhone sucked.

With Android, you get all that as part of the system. Developers have almost full range over the entire system.
