LF a couple kinds of game

Okay, I'm looking for many things in an MMO, but I'd also like to find them in "single player" games (or non-MMOs).  I am thinking PC or Xbox 360 for those, as those are the systems I have (though I also have a DS).

Crafting Game:  In the case of an MMORPG, I'm looking for something with a player driven economy, where most of the stuff that is used is made by players rather than dropped from mobs (hate to beat a dead horse, but like SWG used to be before they removed decay.  If its not that complex its okay).  In the case of a single-player game, something where I can craft my own gear would be nice.  I don't think there's anything that would emulate having customers to sell your items to, or much of an economy/shop owner thing unless that was the whole point of the game, which I'm not against so recommend those if you know of good ones.

Skill-based games: In the case of an MMO, something that operates like Entropia Unverse but without the casino elements.  The more you use a skill the better you become at it.  I'd also enjoy something like SWG used to be, where you had a limited amount of skill points but could spend them in a variety of skill boxes.  For a single player game, something akin to Elder Scrolls series, where using a skill increases your rank in it (no need to mention Fable, or the Elder Scrolls series).

Something that combines the two might be nice as well.  Thoughts?

You might want to check out Fallen Earth, if you haven't already. It's gone free to play and it has an excellent crafting system. The bulk of all items, including armor, weaponds, and ammo are craftable. It's also arguably more "skill based" due to the targeting mechanics, requiring you to actually aim to hit.

In Darkfall you can make almost every item in the game but the crafting is a big grind because of how difficult it is to sell stuff. There are player vendors at villages with player housing but it is extremely difficult to own one. Almost all trades are done in person because there is no auction house and usually trades are kept within a clan so making money as a crafter is a lot more work than in most games. Many things needed to craft are obtainable through PVE and you can enchant almost any item in the game which is cool. The crafting is very AFK friendly and easy to do things like playing a 2nd game on another monitor or watching TV. The main reason that I mention this game is because it has skill grown like what you mentioned and its the biggest open world without instances found in a MMORPG. Lots of stuff to explore and dungeons to crawl through. Unlike other games everything that you do is risky which can add to the excitement. GMs can control monsters and make them do things  like mass together to attack a city, follow you around to mess with your head, or make a spawn more difficult but its pretty rare lately. The combat is faster-paced and can give you a rush unlike any other game out there but its difficult and takes time to learn. People tend to end up being a jack of all trades in this game like you would in an Elder Scrolls game instead of chosing a class. The game is known for its PVP but its not as often as you would think. Player sieges over player holdings, naval warfare, mounted combat, villages to capture for taxes, roaming open world PVP, and full-loot so crafting really matters and all the best stuff is player made. Giagantic expansion is being worked on called Darkfall 2.0 which will bring prestige classes, revamped everything, traps/doors and other dungeon stuff, etc.

I thought that Vanguard had the coolest crafting because its a game in itself and there are lots of stuff that you can make. You wouldn't need to worry about selling things to other players to level because NPCs have work orders and there are even crafting quests to do. Its a huge grind to reach the end game crafter status. There is also diplomacy which is another game in itself. They have some really fun classes to play.

DDO is free to play and has that nostalgic DnD feel to it along with dungeons that have puzzles and traps.

Play ACE Online. It's a MMO3D Space Shooter in which you dogfight an opposing force with 4 different gear types.

The fact you are in control of the flying (joystick optional) completely relies on skill.
