Tie it to the activity/hits a game generates.. Simple yet effective IMO.
We have a separate section that tracks popularity on the front page. It's in the same box as the Hype meter. I don't believe we want to link the two.
I was actually thinking more along the lines of linking it to forum activity. Might actually make people think twice about going to sections for games they don't wanna support .

Hype is just hype. It very very rarely ever tends to turn out at the levels the hype attribute it to be at. I'll bet you that both GW2 and SwToR will have lower ratings then their hype place them out at release. Not saying they are bad, just saying hype tends to never be close to right to begin with.
