So Blizzard, how about that whole, 'Path of the Titans', alternate advancement system you said you'd work on? You know, the one that was unceremoniously cut from Cataclysm? Guess you're too busy adding pet battles and dumbing down the talent system to add in meaningful endgame content beyond raiding and dailies.

Next thing you know, they'll be announcing a RMAH like Diablo 3's. You know, to 'combat illicit sales'. image

Yeah I'm pretty pissed too about this Pokemon crap. I mean seriously? There are so many other things that would be better than pokemon. Player housing is one and guess what? Now instead of trying to balance classes, they will  be trying to balance the stupid pokemon. housing would not have taken that much time or been as hard to implement.

They could implement Pokemon without messing up the game. They probably didn't think they could implement Player Housing without doing something detrimental to the game.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Pokemon > private place to cybersex

I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.

Not if player housing is for the purpose of world pvp (ie guild battlekeeps)

People get their house, put a bunch of stuff in it, then quit or never use it. Blizzard then has to keep track of all those items for eternity.

Pet battles will be used by most of the playerbase all the time, and as a system it doesn't require keeping track of more than a few variables per person. Easy.

It worked incredibly well in SWG, it just need to have a purpose - for example for player run vendors or pvp.

For some reason people here are just obsessed with the dollhouse crap and totally forget how good housing can be for the world pvp game.

I don't see the big deal, I'm sure if they put player housing tons of people would've been complaining about them wasting there time making useless content, just as they did for transmog (despite being biggest thing asked for without a doubt), darkmoone faire and now pokemon.

You've obviously never played a game that had very good player housing or crafting for it.  I love making furniture (especially rare furniture that requires rare materials) for my house and then decorating it so it's unique and not like anyone else's.  I truly derive a tremendous amount of pure FUN from doing that.....harvesting woods, gems, metals and then crafting them into great things for my house and then being able to set my house up exactly like I want.....no stupid "nodes" in the house like in LotRO.

But nevermind....you don't care about housing, I get it, but I don't care about pet battles and would probably be able to enjoy WoW again if they had a robust housing system like EQ2 at least.

Having player houses means you need a 3D model for each item. In WoW items a re a 2D icon in your bag or bank (other than gear and weapons upon equipping them).

I would of prefered player houses as well. In fact, I would get a life subscription to WoW if they implemented player houses.

You've been trolling and bitching about WoW for awhile here, like obsessivly for the better part of 16 hours a day.

Finding wood and buying a schematic for a table would bring you back?

Well EQ2 has pet battles and useless crafting. Play it for 16 hours a day and shut the fuck up.

I used to play EQ2 for hours every day (not 16 because I have other things to do, but hours).  I got burnt out on it just like I did WoW, only I lasted about 8 months LONGER because I had housing.

I don't need to shut the fuck up, and I played WoW long enough to earn the right to bitch.  I've played every game and expansion Blizzard ever made except Starcraft 2.  I've paid my dues.  You have a problem with ME.....speak to a mod, Buddy.  I'll do the same if you become a thorn in my side.

Azeroth is too small for player housing.  When you get right down to it, there are too many players for Azeroth.  There are how many players on a server doing the same content?  Were WoW a book, there might be 5-10 "players"...with NPCs filling in any odd parts.

Player housing is better suited to a hybrid sandbox/themepark game than to one of the themepark on rails game lobby games...

...though some games have tried with instanced housing - you know, off to the side.

I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

I couldnt think if them really doing it any other way besides instanced housing.  Thats kind of a no brainer.  Otherwise like you sort of said, the entire map would be full up and you wouldnt even be able to run through a zone without taking "the back ally".

However for a game like WoW, thats a LOT of instanced housing really.  I dont suppose it might be impossible to pull off though.

But if you want to cut down on that, and sort of compromise, I see no reason why they couldnt have made instanced Guild Halls for guilds.  Its sort of like a house that everyone in your guild gets to be a part off.  I figure they could allow larger and more grand guild halls based on number of members or guild achievements or both.  It would add a whole new objective to the game and maybe get guilds motivated to actually work and do things together.  Would be nice if you entered a portal, and were taken to your guild instance, and it had a small parcel of land around the hall as well as a place to hang out smack in the middle.  Halls could range from tents, to houses, to large mansions, to castles.   Or they could be chosen to be in caves, on a boat, or otherwise.  Options are always fun.  And decorating them to your liking should be implimented.

Heck you could even instance smaller rooms inside the Guild Hall for the player to display their trophies, thus allowing for housing and guild halls all in one.

But I really think if WoW was ever going to bother implimenting any of that, they would have done so by now.  They're obviously trying to pander to the Asian market with this expansion.  Doesnt mean you cant enjoy it too, but its definitely got the asian market in mind.

Instanced guild halls - could definitely see that before individual player housing.  Much like you said, the larger guilds having the larger guild halls, etc.  They could possibly do something akin to CoH's VG/SG bases.  http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Base  As far as determining size, "rent", and the various things such as that.

It would also have opened up additional avenues of achievement - unlocking guild hall items, etc.

Guild halls could be a very interesting feature.

Much lighter on the developer investment.  I'm tellin you, they are scaling back the dev investment on WoW to ramp up Titan.  IIRC, per Blizzards calendar, they are going to be releasing a ton of info in 2012 about it so I'd expect a 2013/14 release.

PS. When there were talking about player housing it was going to be instanced.

The Grind for gear practically already had this game being pokemon anyway.

They are only catering to what the playerbase wants....

    gotta catch em all !

Thing is, I could not buy instanced housing in Azeroth.  There's just not the area for it to be - and for it to be reasonable.

With LotRO - well, you had the various valleys and the like.  Sure, immersion is broken by the fact there are multiple valleys - but you could buy into the valleys being there.  There are no such areas in WoW...

AO did a great job with instanced housing in the highrises with apartments.  It was very easy to buy into that.  There are huge skyscrapers... easy to imagine people being on different floors, the various apartments on each floor.  Yep, that worked well.  Course, if you did not play for a period of time and you had not written down where you lived...lol...

I suppose even with the guild halls, it would be a case of having to picture that it is some underground base with a magical portal to gain access...etc.
