ok, I have an ati radeon 5850 1 gig but it only shows that its 753mb why is that?

Where does it show that it's 753MB?
when i run dxdiag it says
Approx. total memory 753 mb
Its DXDIAG not your card.
Download GPU-Z and see what it says, it tells you quite a bit about your card and has sensors to monitor activity as well.
