My ferret had it small glands taken out, they still have that "musk" smell, but it's not bad... I like the smell, some people don't. My house also doesn't small like crap since I have good litter and clean the box twice a day... a clean ferret is a happy ferret. Also you don't wash them all the time, the more you wash them the more they are trying to get the oil back on their fur and makes them stink.
If you see them rolling around in their poo, that's different.

One thing to remember when you pick your pets up from the pet shop. If you are going to leave them for a while in the box they gave you them in, remember to check that they didnt place packing tape over the little holes they went to great lengths to gut into the box!!
