Well here i am again with some vieuws of the everlasting copy of a copy of a copy mmorpg. I feel that these last months years it has been hard for me and alot of fellow mmorpgers of the old days to find a game that actualy intrigues me and makes me wanne play more. But every game that looks promising fails in so many ways that i keep on wondering where the gaming industry is taking it.
Some vieuw points of myself:
No game is original any more and it seems that game developers wanne make games easy so you can mindlessly spend money on a game thats beeing played for you. How many times have you people been in a mmorpg and been so freaking bored by slaying mob X 100 times and after slaying mob Y 50 times. I can tell you i have been so bored i tought of buying powerleveling to the max level.
Every game these days has the same level dynamics and the last 100000 mmorpg's developd. The uber skill tree. Seriously what is up with that? You have 3 trees and you can put a point every freaking level. And in the end everyone is almost the same in any way. I wonder is it me or if you played one of these games you actualy played them all.
Than there is the endgame, everybody is always saying "the game starts when your max level".... seriously .... i buy a game to have fun from 0 to XX not to have bored time from 0 to XY. If i first need to be bored for 2 months to have fun afterwards? I rather play pokemon.
I can go on and on but in the end it comes down to this. Everyone wanne be the next big thing with the same thing. So why can't game delopers be original and look for new ways to improve old ways. Why can't there be a game that thinks outside the box. Everygame is copying from old games. In a sense i can understand why change something that works? Because people have done it over and over again. Why not mix it with something new and innovating.
Therefore i am looking for people who togheter with me and other people wil try and find those new ways and deliver them to the game devs all over the globe. It is time something original and new is developd in every sense of the word.
Just my 2 cents.
For the people who askd me for idees.
First idee: I wanne step away from the skill trees but not completly. Why don't we use a skills system with around 100 skills. People can add points every level and raise there skills as much as they want.
Example: You gain points every level and you whant to be a better archer? You raise your archery points but you have a special attack on your bow so you also raise you bow spec attack or something. Not to shure about names but who cares. Every 5 levels you gain a master point wich you can distribute into a specific skill tree.
Second idee: with the skill point idee you can have a diffrent kind of armor / items usage. In place of the boring your level 10 now you can use item XX.
Example: Item XX requires 50000 in skill YY to put on. This wil make the hole item way more diverse.
Third idee: Level wise it is almost always the same. Q here Q there go do this and that and so forth. Why not make it so people actualy can chose what they do and not follow a pre determint pat that the devs decided on. How should we do this is something i have gave many toughts and nothing i tought of is 100% ok in my vieuw but it maybe gives others a new idee.
A.1 Make it so people need to gather knowledge ( research ) to aquire new things in the world. You can make it for clans and personal usage. But to gain these researches you need to visit a diffrent area. In these area's unlike the normal gameplay we have these days. You don't need to quest but travel in these areas and slay monsters and search for the items that give you these research upgrades. In this way a person doesn't feel forced to level they wil level at there own speed and gain experience.
A.2 When we continue on this path. i can go more into detail. Lets say you are in a clan you can take on a clan mission for a specific research. These wil ba harder and wil put you in instances to search for these leet clan researches. While you yourselve can find parts for your own researches aswell ( everyone is a bit selfish ).
i can continue this brainstorm but give me some imput. I am shure with everyone in here we can figure out some great idees.

Ditto, I've read this a lot. I cannot understand how 99% of a game becomes meaningless once players hit max level. It is a massive flaw in the current end game system. You may as well just prgramme 3 instances and give everyone level 60 or 24 or whatever you want to call it, turn them all up to 11 and let them grind for gear. I am hoping that GW2 will make proper use of the content they have spent several years coding.
Yeah, the problem with both MMOs and threads like this is lack of originality.
OP: Saying that things like this is wrong is rather pointless, instead you should try to figure out another working mechanics for a MMO and post it, that is constructive critic at least and we havn't read your ideas on that a zillion times.

Wow is it me or are you a wow player?
It depends what you mean by fail. The only online games i would consider to be a total failier are SWG and Tabula rasa. Any mmo that still has servers running imo is not a fail, it cant be or else the company wouldnt be able to afford to keep it running!!!
It must be you whose a wow player.

What's even more blant, unoriginal and old, is posts like yours. Acting as a police of these threads.
MMOs are failing?
They are not failing, you are mistaking cause and consequence...
How many games these days are first payed to play. Than a year later free to play with a ingame mall? Alot of them.
Because it brings in more cash.
Let me calc that for you
1000 players paying 20€ a month to play on a single server. 20.000€
1000 players paying 0€ and occasionaly buying something on the mall for 5€. 5.000€
Now ofcourse when a game is free you attrackt more players. But that requires you to host more servers aswell wich costs more.
This barely warrants a response. I think you went to the Joey Deacon school of maths.
I still think it has more to do with player perspective and the mentality with which they play those games that makes them "fail" ~ not to say that there aren't bad games out there, but there's a certain, very vocal segment of players that are more focused on being a discerning gaming critic of sorts, rather than just playing a game because they like it and it's fun. Even the worst games can be fun and offer a good playing experience if the people playing it are willing to just have fun.
Also if you look at games ind evelopement, GW2, Wildstar, and The Secret World are all trying to move skills and quests into something more "outside of the box."
Well a player that enjoys a game that plays the game for you isn't what i call a good source. Maybe it is time there are games with more depth and games that require some brains to play it. But hey it seems people enjoy playing the same games in a diffrent setting so maybe i came to the wrong board with my idees and vieuws.
Very few games have actually failed and there is allready a great variety of games to play - some easier than others, some with more depth than others.
More variety is great.
Venge
The skill tree in EVE takes over 20years to max out, is that enough variety for you?
Eve is a nice game but when you drop in the game now ( or when i did in 2008 ) you can never match the old players. So that isn't good either. Why? Because you see no end to it you don't feel like you can fly with a T3 ship and join the top notch pilots. Eve is nice but it lacks progression. You just can't compete with people that have 60m+ sp and that is why alot of low pilots leave in early stages, that and the learning curve ofcourse
you just mentioned why one of your idea's is bad, think about what you typed
Thats fun or either you don't know what you are saying or i didn't explain one idee good enough.
Here is some advice for you to help you achieve the goal.
1. Never come to a public website and preach about your idea unless you have some working example. Everyone here has been through it at one time or another. You’re not going to build a WoW killing MMORPG without some means to prove it is a WoW killer. All you do is make an ass out of yourself.
2. Don’t argue your point in a public forum because everyone thinks they are right.
3. If you have some skill show the skill.
4. Don’t talk about it unless it is a forum for developers.
5. Just do it and seek out your team from the local area or through some media other than a game forum that is not a developers forum.
Above all else listen to first hand experience because it will help save you a lot of grief.
good luck on your project.
If you are interested in making a MMO maybe visit my page to get a free open source engine.
So if you can't be the best at everything then you shouldn't play the game? How do you get out of bed in the mornings?
Some people realy don't have brains? Seriously. Someone whants to start a friendly discusion and get some heads togheter and get some good idees gouing. And what do you get wannebee morons who in place of giving constructive comments act like god almighty with the brains of a 10y old. Maybe i was wrong thinking that on a forum build around MMORPG'S people would be more interested in brainstorming around mmorpg's. But i guess i was wrong.
Than a small comment to our eve fanatic. Everyone wanne be the best at what they do. If you don't wanne be the best at what you maybe thats why you didn't achieve in life what you whanted. I for one always wanne be the best! That doesn't mean i am the best but i whant the achieve something better than the day before every day. And in eve you just can't match the best players ever. Unlike other conventional mmorpg's people reach end game and you can reach a bit closer ever day. In eve that is not possible. If you start today you wil never reach the top players.
Maybe this is a small life lesson, if you can't be the best or don't whant to be the best search something you can be the best of.
