Road to Entropia

Excellent virtual world/universe.

I have tried so many of the new MMO's that they are just cookie cutter copies of each other.  I have played Entropia for only 7 days and I have never seen such detailed social/economic/strategic and tactical virtual world simulation.

You will be blown away by the open ended life on futuristic worlds.  It is all up to you, free play or investment play both function in a real money economy which can actually deposit and withdrawl earned cash.

The experience posibilities are endless and the social interactions are second to none, where new people are treated well.

Give it a try, you wont be disappointed.

If you land on the planet Arkadia, look me up.

Blood Rebel Templar

Cash shop of course.  This usually means poor community and paying to compete in pvp while bots advertise leveling and gold non-stop.

However, that being said, let me ask this:  will the cash shop offer for (a) potions and xp packs for leveling (b) offer items for pvp superiority?

    Thank you.

The community is actually rather mature, and you will find very few 'bots' advertizing since everything is based on a real cash economy you will never find in game money for less than face value. (10 to 1 PED to USD)

Everything you buy is either from other players or through auction (also from other players)

You can only purchase the most simple weapons and tools and ammo from the game developers.

This game isn't like any others you will find out there. The Real Cash Economy quickly quickly weans out the children and those with short attention spans. It is a game you play in months and years, not hours and days.

If you want to check it out, I would recomend starting on Rocktropia this weekend. They have some sort of partnership with "The Thing" movie that is comming out on the 14th of October, and have a whole movie/game set of missions/quests and map of its own which can be played for free without the need to deposit anything.

It should give you somewhat of an idea of what the game is capable of.

I am a huge fan of the game and been playing for over 3 years now with no desire to find another game.

It uses the Cryengine 2 gaming engine which is the same one that Crysis uses so the graphics are amazing as long as your comptuer can handle them. (otherwise you can still play on lower settings)

The variety in the Universe is expanding faster than any of the old time players can keep up with.

There are Currently several worlds in the game which you can travel through space with your same avatar to explore and play the different themes.

    1. Calypso - The original and most established Planet

1.a. F.O.M.A is a mining and hunting resort built onto an astroid space station orbiting Calypso.

2.b. Crystal Palace is a Space station also around Calypso with Unique alien monsters for big game hunters to go after.

    2. Rocktropia is a music themed planet paraleling an alternate reality based on the dreams of Rock Stars and hosts Dragons, Vampires, Werewolves and other undead creatures as well as some normal animals as well.

2.a. HELL is a mining/hunting area located under Rocktropia with great mining and Demons to hunt.

2.b. The Thing was just released 2 days ago and is the most recent addition to the Universe themed around the upcomming movie with the same name.

    3. Next Island is a Tropical Resort planet being developed and will have time travel destinations you can go to from there.

3.a. Ancient Greece is the first time travel destination from Next Island.

    4. Arkadia is the newest Planet and is much like Calypso in that it is a sci-fi planet with its own storyline.

There are also 2 upcomming planets Cyrene and Theryon Wars.

The key to plaing this game is understanding the economy. I like to look at it as a giant economics simulator wraped up to look like a beautiful mmo. Play it like a standard mmo and you can loose alot of money. Learn and study the game and the economics within it and you can play for free while developing your character, maybe even make a few PED along the way.

Feel free to ask me any questions, I enjoy discussing the game both on forums or if you find me while im playing.

    good luck and have fun,

Excellent detailed discription from a person who has played for 3 years.  This game does require thought and is not just a hack and slash or grind fest.  If you have a negative opinion then I hope it is based upon your own experience, I will then consider your opinion.

I am without shame because this is my true opinion, not a bot advertisement.  It is sad that a player is asked their opinion about games they play and reccomend to others and then get shot at by trolls in the bush.

Really, give someone a chance to promote the game they love, i would not shoot down your choice.

This game is indeed different but the fact its based on a real world econony where everything costs money is for me anyways the games major flaw.  Be prepared to make and or spend fast amounts of "real" money or basically be a "Scrub" in this game forever..  It makes a F2P games cash shop model look like childs play.

So if you were going the route of trying to earn real money in game then your basically starting a business, a real business with all the associated headaches that go with it, without the added benefit of starting a real world business.

This game has never made any sense to me from that point of view.    Im okay with RPing in a game with my character but not when the economic model mimics real life with all the same financial riks, that is a very slippery slope in my opinion.

But ya, I liked playing it too for about week until I realized what the driving factor in this game was "cash".

    .....

What you see as a flaw I see as its best feature.

You say that compared to EU all other f2p games are 'childs play' and that is also a feeling i get. I dont want to play a simple game, I love the complexity and maturity required to excell in this game.

I agree with you though, you shouldnt approach it expecting to 'make money,' that would be deceving yourself if you thougt that. It is a game designed by a buisness that needs to make their own money so of course it is going to cost you some. But I am happy to pay for my entertainment.

I need to stress again though that this is a game which is played in months and years. After a week of play you have barely even seen the tip of the iceberg let alone experienced anything of what the game truely is.

    hope that makes sense,

Honestly if they make a seperate universe that has other buisnes model than buy everything for $ it could be holding one of the top places !

    Hmmm

Not sure if this is a SUB-PLUG or not.

Entropy a doctrine of inevitable social decline and degeneration.

Entorpia, an advanced gaming world where real-cash might be earned. It is the same game that hit the Guiness Book of World Records for the most expensive virtual property... One play purchased a virtual house for over $29,000.00. Yes... Twenty-nine thousand... thousand dollars REAL CASH!

The game itself is the Jetsons. The business model is solid and I only wish it were mine to sub-out. The graphics are astounding and the mechanics are decent.

I have long since sold my property and belongings for a decent little profit (which was pure luck). << LUCK!!!!!!!

The game is addictive and immersable to an infinit degree. But, with my fat wallet sitting next to my computer, it was too easy to buy what I needed to increase my ROI, rather than 'sweating the details'. I sank $400.00 to make $600.00, once.  But, in the end, I had $600 plus my initial $400 -which only required real-cash maintenance. At that level, it will cost you about $60.00 a month to maintain your gear, with the possiblility of looting high dollar items along the way. Make no mistake, you will undoubtedly spend real cash at one point or another. The old cliche, 'You gotta spend money to make money.." is prevelant here.

Now, there are planty of people spamming rip-offs and running around in a cockroach fashion in gathering a free cash-maker called Sweat (ROFL). It was simply beneath me, so I never bothered. So, yea... there is a 'free cash' part in all the madness. I never did the math, but I assume it would take a week to earn a dollar?!? I'm not certain.

Crafting is very cool, and a huge money maker. You will need Sweat in one way or another, along with other farmable mats.

The loot system is fair. You have a high chance of getting loot per kill, which can be vendored to offset the costs of hunting. Once you discover your comfort zone, the game is quite entertaining.

Entropia is fun, above all other things. But, it's more of an investment game than a traditional MMO.

(I wish I could get something back for speaking so nicely about Entropia) -"Time is money"

You've just got it all figured out, don't you? Smug assumptions, and totally off base btw. Cash shop... um.. no? Or at least, when I see the words "cash shop" I think of a place on the game's website where you can buy items relating to the game, either items you use directly while gaming or vanity items. There are neither associated with this game. The only thing you buy with cash is in-game cash. Poor community? Not at all, in fact for the most part mature, helpful and friendly, I would certainly take it any day over something like the WoW community (don't get me wrong, I love WoW, but the community in general is the pits). Bots advertising leveling and gold non-stop, funny, never seen that in the 5 years I've played. Can't see it happening at all with the way the game works anyway.

There are no potions or xp packs in the game. PvP gear is available the same way everything else is. Buy it at the auction or from a player in an in-game trade. Again, there is no "cash shop" in the way you imply.

Ent take the usual cash shop idea to a whole new level. I don't think it's even comparable to anything else than, other than Second Life. It just has a bit more structure to it.

I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.

I played entropia extensively, since back when it looked like crap, and you could find FOG signs instead of actual fog (I have a screeny! heh), and my opinion is that although it is pretty amusing, it's more akin to a glorified casino than a game. Don't expect to make money in it, for instance. It should be regulated as a casino too. It's gambling, in a pretty game form.

No idea what he is talking about as far as social, strategy or tacticalness, other than knowing how to avoid aggro off the beasties. The game is pretty much go farm some mob til you run out of ammo, in the hope that it drops something valuable so that you can sell and therefore play a bit longer without dropping more real world money on it

But it is a fine big world to wander and explore in. I had great times just loading up on some ammo, some mining bombs, and just walking in some direction for hours (very massive open map)

The OP seems to be a sales-bot to attract more people to it, as it's not a very good business model. Unless you drop hundreds of $ on the game, you aren't going to be able to do much heh. Well you can get by with a little $, but you will be quite limited to lowbie stuff only

And careful of that addiction factor, they hook you in that way too, like a casino

Entropia has no "ingame cash shop", so the only way the developers can make money at all is from the sale of ingame currency.

This means that the game is designed in such a way that it ensures that the average player is continually buying ingame currency (PED) with real money. If that were not the case, the game would have to shut down.

Yes, you could get lucky and score a nice payout on a loot drop or a mining strike or some other mechanic, but these payouts are structured in the same way as a casino slot-machine. It only ever pays out a certain percentage of what's put in. Otherwise the developers would be losing money, not making it.

What the OP did not tell you in his carefully crafted advertisement for Entropia, is that there is almost NOTHING you can do for free. You can run around the starter area, but to actually play, you have to buy equipment, weapons and ammo. With ingame currency, which you will have to buy with real money. Everything you equip wears out fairly quickly. So you have to regularly repair it (which costs ingame currency).
