Ok I can tell every review is biased in one or the other direction with this game, so I got a very specific, factual based yes or no question:
Is this game turn based, like the console Final Fantasy games were? Like, do you select a move from a menu, then watch a cheesy cutscene, then do it again, and again, and again, and.....

(cause I honestly can't tell from the videos I've watched so far.)

No, it has the same basic combat mode as most MMOs.
Start auto-attack, then use special abilities.

If you can get it cheap, give it a try. Many stores have it in the bargain bin now.
Probably shouldn't spend more then 10 bucks on it though. You could also ask around on XIV forums for a buddy pass, gets you access for free as long as the game still doesn't have a subscription.
The game tries to mimic the turned based combat from the other FF games, with realtime fighting. So it fells a bit different then other mmos but I for one like it.
