You can play the game to max level. Only thing you will not be able to do is gain stuff from the new expansion. Otherwise, you have a full game with some limitations like, class and race locks, fewer bag slots, cannot wear mastercrafted and above gear, locked at 50% exp gain on AA, and cannot post on the AH. Other than that you get a full game.
Based on what I've heard concerning EQ2's free to play model you'd be better off just subbing to the normal version of the game if it's something you are enjoying. This is because the freemium model used for EQ2 will actually end up costing you more for less product if you were to actually stick with it and decided you wanted to open gold/platinum service on your F2P account. Here's a link that will provide more specifics as to why the freemium model isn't as beneficial to the consumer when you're talking EQ2.

Bronze and Silver can wear Mastercrafted gear. Rest is somewhat accurate, although bags on a toon can be unlocked.
Imo Silver (the one time payment of 10$) is the best offer. Bronze severly limits you in storage space and max of gold.
Yea sorry about the old link but it was the only relevant thing I could find quick enough to, possibly, satisfy some of the OP's concerns about what you do and don't get with the differing EQ2 Extended payment plans. Even with the level restriction being raised on the gold plan F2P (Does F2P even still apply anymore once you get to gold?) package I'd still go with a full sub were I the one playing EQ2 =D! Mainly just wanted to provide a decent link with information that was, for the most part, still accurate. Thanks for the heads up though.
Just started back myself, get the silver play for a while and IF you get up to the cap levels think of going gold. The bonuses of gold do not really apply till you are not out leveling your gear faster than you can attain it.
There are more things that didn't fit in the little MAtrix...... and you can still gain AA as a Silver Member, so the AA feauture is available... But in silver you can not move the AA slider...

The limits are on gold, higher quality item/spell usage and NUMBER of quests you can have at one time. You can have them, just not as many at once.
the earlier blog that was linked was written before the server even existed
blog written July 2010 -- EQ2X Server launched Aug 2010
membership matrix covers most of it -- but not all
