Deus Ex ARG Heats Up

Nothing adds an air of mystery to a franchise quite like the introduction of an alternate reality game, and few properties are as well suited to the idea as Deus Ex. The developers at Eidos Montreal seem to recognize the opportunity, and an unusual sequence of internet clues has Deus Ex fans buzzing about what it all might mean.

The whole thing started with the PC version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, where an unusual main menu note exhorted players to watch for a "Special Message" on August 29th. Sure enough, as VG247 reports, the message showed up as a string of numbers and letters that players decrypted to find a website called 13311tower.com. That site, in turn, brought people around to some more confounding info including GPS coordinates to a place called Uluru, or Ayers Rock -- a sandstone rock formation in Australia. In addition, as reported by Blue's News, a sequence of morse code could be combined with the Uluru clue and used as a password to uncover the image seen at the top of this story.

You follow all that?

Yeah, we're a little confused about the entire concept as well, but that's kind of the point, right? A subsequent story from VG247 cites an unknown source indicating that the clues lead up to some new DLC for the game. If the source is accurate, the DLC will detail a sequence occurring over two days aboard a prison ship, isolated from communication and support networks.
