    1. Champions Online

    2. City of Heroes

    3. Fallen Earth

I had better experiences in the two big super hero games than other MMOs. I wonder if it is just a coincidence, or if there is something about hero/villain MMOs that attract fun helpful competitive people. But I played them both for a long time after I might have if just for game mechanics and content due to the community, hero genre not really being my thing.

In both games there were people that organized events, gave help on builds, and otherwise just stand out on forums and in game as really making the whole sub worth it for me for years. I'll even give a shout out  - WillBlack and Pulsewave, you guys rock.

Fallen Earth was sometimes a lonely experience, but I almost always had positive social interaction there even if they were kicking my ass in PvP. I heard stories about expoits from time to time but never was a victim first hand.

I think with CoH on Virtue it is maybe because it is an extremely creative game in general that encourages players to constantly roll alts and play low level content. There is no disconnect between the game and 'end game' that most MMOs see, so everyone seems to be happy to work with everyone. This kills a lot of the end game vs newb elitism other games see.

The RPers here have a great attitude, keeping it pretty low key and just fun in general areas the majority of the time. In fact, I am no MMO RPer but they are genuinly entertaining to watch and listen to most of the time.

It also helps that PvP there is so far down on the agenda it hardly registers and maybe the fact that loot is never argued over (due to the game's inherent systems) might help as well.

And yes, I think it does help that this is an older games. In fact, aside from FFXIV, pretty much all the games people have been talking about are older games. I think there is a truth to that for obvious reasons.

I agree.  I also have had a positive experience in a Superhero game (Champion's Online).  If i have time i like to hang out and watch the costume contests people seem to host nightly.  Its amazing how many different looking toons you can make with a character creator like Cryptic made.

Early EQ and early WoW? I haven't played CoH or DAoC, but I've heard that those games used to have a pretty good community as well.

    1. EQ: can't recall the server anymore, but it's 1st for the simple reason that it was my first MMO just like for a lot of people and this created a very unique atmosphere that combined well with how the game played. I'm sceptical that if the game would launch now with updated graphics, it'd have the same appeal or community as it had back then when everyone was new to MMO's.

    2. AoC, Aquilonia RP server: this must have been the most interesting server community I've encountered as a whole, with a lot of guilds that were fully in tune with AoC's harsh Hyborea, from guilds specialised in Cimmerian lifestyle or cutthroat banditry to dark magic and drugs cults to even prostitution/fertility sects. Even if you weren't interested in RP, with all kinds of events happening all the time it sure was a lively server with a rich and varied server culture.

    3. GW: in the first months it was a great community I landed in, a loose alliance of guilds, while at the same time fun stuff was being done in the spur of the moment all the time, like synchronised dancing or fun events. All in all, a good energetic atmosphere.

    4. LotrO, Laurelin server: most truthful to the Middle Earth lore, and friendliest atmosphere I've encountered image

All in all, I think my best experiences have been on RP related servers, it's something in the mix of people and creativity that creates a good community maybe. That's why my preference has become RP servers even at the times that I don't intend to RP at all.

For me, I've had good experiences in EQ1 (up until I quit with PoP) on Firiona Vie (RP-PvE) and Tribunal (PvE) servers, perhaps for the first six months in WoW on Burning Blade (PvP), and pretty much the entirety of the time I play on LoTRO (can't recall the server names off the top of my head) a couple of months was before F2P but most has been since then. I'd also cite CoH during it's first couple of years but I don't actually remember it being notably good or bad.

EQ1 - Erollisi Marr. We all sort of knew each other there. I wouldn't say it was a harmonious community, but it was vibrant, and united on most things.

Horizons - Twilight/Chaos. Everyone helping out everyone else.

WoW Pre TBC- when TBC came out, they added 10 man raids, that were on the same difficulty as 40 mans were early on. This created a rift in many factions that were from Vanilla. People started fighting in guilds over raid spots. This caused a lot of corruption in my opinion. thats when I first started noticing how WoW's coummuity was changing into something bad. now its at its peak today sadly of corruption. :-/

EQ - Tunare. We started playing in 1999 and many of us are still connected with our I lived in Everquest on Tunare Server facebook group all these years later.

SWG - Starsider. Great group of people who I thoroughly enjoyed PvPing with, building cities with or just hanging out in a cantina shooting the breeze while healing and buffing.

Vanguard - Beta server from 2005-2006. VG had so many issues (still does) but the beta server was so damn much fun. The VG beta was the only other time that reminded me of the fun and excitement of my early EQ days.

    1. Pre-TBC WoW- Shadowsong server:  Great bunch of folks.  Lots of random help while out exploring the world, very few d-bags.

    2. Pre-F2P LOTRO:  Cannot remember what server I played on at launch, but it was very friendly and full to busting with people willing to offer help or advice.

    3. Warhammer- R.E.M.>I.R.>Gorfang:  Even with its emphasis on PvP, most of the people you encounter are polite and the diehards that have stuck with the game have bonded together fairly well.  Biggest thing hurting the community was the revolving door servers over the past 2+ years.

This is absolutely untrue.  When WoW first released it was MUCH friendlier than it is today.  Strangers actuallly spoke to you and randomly grouped for quests.  Whole HUGE groups of strangers used to raid Ironforge or Orgrimmar back in those days, and it was ACTUALLY FUN.

It wasn't until loads and loads of people came to WoW and then started BATTLEGROUNDS that the asshats came out in full force.  And still, even after THAT....it was still much much better than it is today.  It has DEVOLVED into the muck that now exists.

    -nvm- misread the question lol...

best community... probably wow. And thats because my guild back then was awesome...coolest group of ppl i've gamed with. And you could easily tune out everyone else making the rest of the immature players not affect you.

Best overall community? I can't even think of one tbh.

SWg- PRE-cu Bloodfin (dubbed the unofficial East coast PVP server) my toons name was Malickie Blood (Fight) if there are any other bugfinners around.

It's been so long I don't remember the DAOC server I played on, but that one as well.

All others aren't worth mentioning IMO.
