League of Legends: New 'Dominion' Game Mode Announced

Riot Games has unveiled major plans for their popular MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena), League of Legends, including the new 'Dominion' game mode.
Dominion will pit players against each other in the war-torn mining village of Crystal Scar, a new map being introduced to the game specifically for the Dominion game mode. The new mode will focus on the capture and defense of five points scattered throughout the map, and will also make use of League of Legends' quest system to create dynamic objectives for players to accomplish throughout various points of the match.
Dominion matches will offer players an alternative game mode to the traditional Summoner's Rift, with shorter match lengths, a faster pace, and combat focused gameplay.
The update will also bring new items to the game, tailored specifically for Dominion gameplay. Additionally, players can look forward to an improved ping system, a new scoreboard, improvements to the announcer system (such as a scrolling kill tracker), and Dominion-specific matchmaking.
Dominion will be available to all players free of charge and will allow for the use of all existing champions, runes, masteries, and skins.

Nice, looks pretty cool. But whatever happend too that lava map they showed us like 8 months back with updated graphics etc?. When is that coming out? guess this will do for now tough

Unfortunately this was just an announcement.
As much as I love Riots game, they do have a tendency to announce things that they simply may never get to.
Replays were announced in 2009 as being worked on and near finished...

I love the idea, and Im glad they are still adding content... but I hate when companies drum up tons of hype for something big, and then simply announce something instead of actually doing something.
Now that HoN is free to play as well the devs will need to put an extra efford to keep the playerbase. Can't wait to see more improvements and maps!

I have it on good authority that is mode will be coming out to the live server pretty soon.

While I am extremely excited for this announcement I can't help but agree with you.
We all saw what happened with magma chamber and the graphics update patch they promised last year and that those never came to be. So I'm trying to hold back my excitement until we know for sure that this new map and game mode will come out, but it's difficult..
Can't wait to play the new gamemode.
awesome! They could use something like this to eventualy branch into a territory conquest system.. And with all the lore they got going with the game, that would be fantastic!
I hope you are right. But I'll stay pessimistic till I see it.
To much bad info from people that don't have even 1 clue what there talking about.
1)This map is not a work in progress its a compeleted new map+ game mode that is already finished.
2) If you actually played you would know that the graphic update has been slowly introduced
into the game many models have already recieved the update(as well as many skins and new released champions).

They cancelled magma, it was announced I believe at E3. They actually admittited to having it cancelled almost a year ago but didn't want to tell the community because of the high hope we had in it. The issue was they didn't like the way the map was going and felt no matter what they did it was not a pleasing map, so in turn they scraped it.

Update: Some of you have expressed interest in when Dominion will be available worldwide, and we wanted to respond to that directly. While we take a “when it’s ready” approach to our feature releases, you will be able to play Dominion in a nearly complete state at GamesCom (August 17-21) in Europe and at PAX Prime (August 26-28) in North America.
League of Legends: Dominion will make it into your daily play schedule shortly after PAX.

I'm new to LoL so I'm not nearly as jaded. This looks cool. More game with my existing hero's sounds great! Game on!
so...
I don't think Riot could take the chance of announcing sth and giving us crap at Gamescom and PAX. Since they said the map will be nearly complete for that events and will be in daily use right after, It'd be really bad for their existing player base. Especially with DotA2 coming out so big.
