Yup, as of reading this, 7800's should be hitting store shelves, according to the article. With a $599.99 price tag ($100 more than a 6800 Ultra) it boasts about a 30-40% performance increase over the 6800U and X800XTPE (Nvidia says 50% but judginf from the supplied benchmarks its not quite that much, sometimes its as low as 5%)

not sure $600 is worth the bragging rights for a card just hitting the market, but hey, had I the money to drop, with no other bills, why not?

If this card released 4 months ago, it would be over $1000.00. I wonder what technology appeared on the market.

Here are some fancy charts on the specs I found.

I am still having a hard time taking in the fact that the power of GPUs has quadrupled in under a year.

AnandTech's Article is a good read on this. For the most part, the performance of the 7800 is about the same as 2 6800 Ultra's in SLI mode. As for quadrupling the processing power of the GPU, you're right. That didn't happen. Check out the article for a better explanation of why the overall performance has increased.

You should see the power requirements. 500W PSU minimum. I've got that, but dam, that is a lot for a minimum amount.

Odd though, cause it uses less power than the 6800's.

But really Gun, just imagine 4 of those babies on a Gigabyte SLI MoBo. Can you say "600 FPS in Half Life II"?

I guess you did not hear the geek news that Gigabyte made a MoBo that can support 4 GPUs in SLI.

Struggling to find the benchmark i read.

Basically the 7800gtx is king in most games.Sadly the 2 mmorpg tested EQ2 and Eve online it actually got outperformed by the x850xt.But in both games all nvidia cards did poorly .

    www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2451&p=11

And for those playing EQ2 ,i seen many complain about nvidia not cutting it with this game  since launch.

The benchmark did not shock me at all to see x850xt not only beat a single fx7800gt but also 2 6800ultra in sli !

From the game i have even posted before that just a few weeks ago my guild raided and while my single x850xt could handle extreme setting (with some small  slowdown)  with over 20 people fighting ,another guild member with same processor speed and 2gb(like me) lagged badly enough to require him to drop his setting a notch down despite having 2 6800ultras in sli mode.

While i skip a generation like i always do and get next year's card as an upgrade as i think my x850xt is strong enough to handle anything in market comfortably this year and next(till next upgrade) i certainly will stick to ati.

ATI always delivers and comes up on top.Only thing is they always release late and their champion is always a mid season release which is 6 months short of the next generation coming out.

If ATI was able to release their cards same time as nvidia i would always stick with them.

Now as a mmorpg player this is te benchmarks that bother me really and honestly i am very unimpressed by nvidia next generation card. This is a next gen card and should not lose to a older generation card.

My advise to anyone buying wait a few weeks and see what ati response will be .

Can't wait for the new ATI graphics card to come out. I already know what they're calling it ::::17::.

The 'X-take an old card, throw on some more transistors and a few piplines and ship it'?

Oh wait they already made an X800...

Let's not take things out of context here. If you read the article, it clearly states that there's an issue with Eve: Online in regards to utilizing SLI:

    From Anantech.com Article
    EVE: Online Performance Performance
Eve is clearly not the most demanding of games when it comes to graphics cards. In fact, the difference between the various setups is at most 5%. There is also a problem with the SLI support, as it actually slows down performance in Eve. This could be due to the increased demands on the CPU required for dividing the workload between the cards, though we don't see this performance hit as much on the 6800 Ultra cards. Other than the problem with SLI decreasing performance, we're clearly CPU limited in Eve, so if this is your game du jour right now, you probably don't need to worry about a GPU upgrade for a while.

This is also clearly apparent to anyone looking at the numbers since the SLI numbers are actually lower than running a single card in both configurations (6800/7800). In all 4 instances (Eve:Online, Everquest 2, Star Wars: KOTR 2, Tiger Woods 2005, ) where the 6800 Ultra SLI solution falls short of the ATI card, the numbers all support the fact that there's SLI issues with those games because, again, the SLI numbers for each setup is lower than what a single card solution of the same chipset performs.

There was only one instance in the 11 games tested where the X850XT beat the 7800 GTX straight up, Everquest 2. If there's only one game where this occurs, this screams optimization to anyone who knows anything about hardware and driver coding.

I'm not saying that nVidia is superior over ATI, but let's not take things out of context and just use the "facts that fit" to support an arguement.

    7800 sucks

RSX is going to be the most powerful

  • herculeshercules Member UncommonPosts: 4,920

Honestly i do not see why a next gen card should lose at all to an older gen gen.Granted the x850xt is a "mid gen " card but still based on last year technology.

While all are free to choose i only credit nvidia with one thing over ati and thats the speed at which they release the cards.

Otherwise i am always happy to wait for ati as their response is always worth while waiting for.

Now lets see what ati releases as their new gen card and then lets see how the fx7800 does against it.

Fact that it already lost in 1 game over last gen ati card is bad enough news.

The new Ati card scores over 10k :P Altho 7800sli got 11k whocares because they r too expensive as sli
