Game of Thrones: the most admirable character

I put this in the R&P forum but I felt it was kinda fuzzy and more pop culture so decided to put it here (reworded). (I hope that's ok?)
Ok.
In terms of personal morality, which character do you most admire in Game of Thrones and why? We are restricted to the first book and the HBO series one to keep it spoiler free and manageable.
I choose:
Jon Snow
Being treated as a bastard all his life has made him value people rather than status or wealth.
The way he helps Samwell Tarly among the Night's Watch shows that he is fair and has empathy for others and is able to see beyond prejudices. He can see the good in others and defends this, with great courage, publicly even when it is to his great disadvantage and risk.
Bottom line: if I need a friend from "Game of Thrones" it would be Jon Snow. He would prove the most loyal and just and unprejudiced.

Ermm..Game Of Thrones is overrated but as for who,well they are all pretty standard but i guess if i had to pick one it would be Snow..

Tyrion speaks the truth, even when it isn't considered polite. It was Tyrion who pointed out to Jon Snow how unfair he was being toward his fellow black brothers and set him on the path to being a leader. Tyrion, because of his notorious exploits in the wine houses and whore houses are more in touch with the common folk. As such, he understands how the high handed politics his fellow lords and ladies engage in affects the masses. Of all the noble folk in the books, Tyrion would be the best king for the people.

Intelligent. cunning, pretty decent, ruthless when needed, empathic...etc.
Better than some noble buffoon or heartless bastard by a very long chalk.

I would say Tyrion to, he tries to help people on occasion and he has compassion, being a dwarf probably made him more sensitive to the suffering of others and the effects of discrimination and persecution. He has an honest streak to, even though he might scheme and plot he always keeps his word, if he says something or makes a deal he does it.

As for the show, Tyrion and Vaerys. I always pictured him as a treachourous ass , but the portrayal in the show just leads me to believe I misjudged the guy.

Garkan nailed it. Tyrion Lannister is no doubt the best.
I too admire Peter Dinklage's performance. His character does seem like a candidate for deuteragonist: "The deuteragonist may switch from being with or against the protagonist depending on the deuteragonist's own conflict/plot" (Wikipedia).
I haven't had the chance to read the books, so this is speculation; but, I believe Tyrion Lannister is a good guy. I am pretty sure Tyrion is not aware of his older siblings' incestuous relationship (Queen Cersei and her twin brother Jaime Lannister).
Tyrion seemed to take notice of his siblings' interests in Bran Stark's life (Jaime tried to kill Bran because Bran discovered the relationship), so Tyrion mentioned that he wanted to hear what Bran Stark had to say when Bran woke up; and then Jaime told Tyrion that time would reveal whose side Tyrion is on; and then Tyrion declared that he just cares about his family.
If King Robert knew that Queen Cersei and Jaime Lannister were having an affair behind his back, he would have their heads on spikes, and then Tyrion would be the next in line to inherit the Lannister House. I think Cersei or Jaime, or both, were trying to frame Tyrion just to get him out of the way.
Episode 4, titled "Cripples, Bastards, and Broken Things" makes me think Tyrion is a good guy. While he does talk a lot of crap, he does have some very insightful advice and contributions for various characters.
There is a chance they could end up making him a bad guy, but it would take a big event to change the direction the character has taken thus far: an event like him becoming the head of the Lannister House.
