General: Selling Junior to Pay for MMO Habit

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

According to a shocking report at ABC News Radio Online, a Chinese couple has been arrested for selling, not one, but THREE of their children to secure funds to pay for their online gaming habit. The sum total of the three children's worth? $9,700 USD.

They were finally turned into authorities when Li Lin’s mother found out what her son and his girlfriend had done.

When asked if they missed their children, the parents answered, "We don’t want to raise them, we just want to sell them for some money.”

Sanxiang City News reports the couple didn't know they were breaking the law.

If there is is a hell... Then, there are some people that deserve a special place within its fiery depths.

I am curious as to what games they played.

    And this...

An internet-obsessed Korean couple allegedly allowed their infant daughter to starve to death while they cared for their virtual child, police said on Friday.

Some American women did the same while playing WoW a few years ago if I remember correctly.

I'm not sure I'd trust news stories out of Korea or China that are negative towards gaming.

Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.

Hmm not too sure about this...what makes me unsure is wouldn't they have gotten in trouble for having more then one kid, before getting in trobule for selling them?

You can have multiple children, but you have to pay an increasing price for each extra child. The price for the second child is about 2 years worth of average wage.

There's a craze in China where parents are naming their children and putting a number after the name, representing the price they had to pay to keep the child.

    It's pretty crazy!

Since the chinese government only allows one child per family I rather think this story is strictly a fairy tale that has no basis in fact.

Were they REAL children, or just inexpensive copies? After all, we're talking about China here.

The story fails to mention the large amount of crack found in the mother's system.

I just don't believe these types of stories are 100% accurate. I believe some key details are missing. What is more sensionalist: a story about a crackhead parent or a story about some WoW addict neglecting their child? Granted, the people may have been playing MMOs, but the real reason is the crack.

Yeah.... this is a bit fishy all together, but still it at least give the childern a fighting chance instead of having them slowly starving to death or die from some infection. Even people who run trafficing rings tend to try and keep their slaves alive to make a retunr on their investment. Crack-head parents tho have no such instincts...

This have been a good conversation

I giggled.. I mean it's not funny, but I just couldn't help thinking about what the parents could have possible wanted in a cash shop that bad..

    A bunny costume? lol..

Since when has China been so big on human rights? Isn't this the country that forces prisoners to farm gold until they can't see anymore? THye probably got in trouble for not bribing the right officials.

I bet an mmo named "Mao's Minions" would make a fortune there.
