MMORPG.com never post about FFXIV Updates......

They posted some pretty lackluster updates such as auto attack, and a few others a month back but just like XI it gets ignored by the staff here for the most part.

I can understand not posting everything they put up on lodestone, but there has been some pretty big items lately that are more newsworthy that half of the stuff they seem to post for other games.

Final Fantasy 14, in it's current state, fails to meet the requirement of being a game. Thus, there is no mention of it here. Personally, I try to consider it more like an elaborate brand loyalty test constructed by Square to quantify how truly dillusional their fan base is.

Speaking as a delusional fanboy, i can provide this prospective.

FFXIV has an amazing community where people are nice and help each other.  Most of us come from FFXI and like the direction of the game even though the changes have been slow in implementation.

I have a family and a career.  I literally do not have the time to play a game that models itself after the "carrot on a stick" approach (WoW, Rift, Aion, etc.).  I only have an hour a night and more on the weekend.

I log on to my free game (FFXIV), i hand out with people that are really pleasant, unlike other communities i've experienced.  We craft, do NM hunts, get new members new aetheryte locations that are near the upcomming dungeons, we do leve linking parties, etc.   There is definetely very little to do in the game, but however we're realistic on what can be done in a short amount of time.

This is a totaly new development team that had to tear down teh previous game and start from scratch.  New combat system, redesign the ui, build a foundation for content, develop the story, implement quests, implement quest hubs, etc etc.

However, this devloper (Yoshi-p) communicates on a weekly basis and gives us a road map on what to expect.  I love being part of a "work in progress" because the pay off is worth it in the end.  Even if the payoff isn't worth it and FFXIV folds, then I still have memories of the fun time with the people I enjoyed playing with in the game.  I'm not paying a monthly sub.

Even if the game doesn't measure up with other games on the market, at least it plays and feels different.  "Wasting time" on a "bad" game vs. wasting time on a good game is purely subjective.  You're wasting time / entertaining yourself in both situations.   In the end, FFXIV doesn't feel like a second job.  I can't say that for Rift or Wow.

    Why post updates...?

There has only been one update that has made game different... and that was auto attack.

In any case, there will be a re-review made by IGN, and MMORPG.COM end of this year to show how far this game has progressed. The report card as it stands, in my opinion is that UI is not as jerky as before and they got auto-attack.... All the other problems like horrid economy, strange leveling, and mundane gameplay improved very very slightly.

There are SO MANY MMOs out there that can do what FFXIV, but better and more enjoyable.... even the Free Ones

Don't worry Re-Reviews are coming end of this year ... chances are the fanbois, will not like to hear them.

I played for a bit at release and quit around Oct. and  I came back a few weeks ago thinking I'd give it another go.  I log on to my character, vender a few useless items and head on to the market wards to put some crafted items up for sale.  To make a long story short, every market ward was full.  They're still forcing this garbage retainer system down the player's throats aparently.  Who wants to gather/craft in a game and have no means to sell it?

My opinon in a nutshell as a long time final fantasy fan:

No chocobos(or mounts) + No airships + No mail system + No auction house = No interest

I wish they'd come to their senses and make this a state of the art polished FFXI .

It's not MMORPG.com's fault.  They really only post game updates when the game companies themselves notify MMORPG.com about it.  Take it up with Square Enix.  They probably don't bother sending out emails or info about updates to websites because it's really not that popular of  a game.

When did MMORPG.com even review FFXIV? We've been calling for it for the past 9 months and still nothing.

I think they do. Actually, I'm sure they do.

It could be due to a lack of staff? I can't really say. Though the same can be said of Vindictus, while they continue to pay attention to Maple Story. From my understand Vindictus is the game that finally removed the policy of the fatigue system implementation in the NA versions. That's pretty big right? That and because Americans are fat addicts hur hur hur... *ahem*, back on topic, it also could be due to the competition, that a lot of the community seeks information else where for certain other games, so rather than waste time and resources following one game they can use them to focus more heavily on other game?

    Who knows ¯(°_o)/¯

Because MMORPG.com isn't everywhere on the internet. A lot of their updates also come from members or companies sending them the informations/news.

I'd say it's better to wait until all the new patches and the major overhauls and additions are completed, and then do a "FF14 Revisit" type of article rather than follow major patches such as: "adding auto-attack."

I've been playing the game since headstart - and I still do and will continue to do so - but we're going on nearly a year since the game's release. There's still absolutely nothing to really do except grind (wether monsters, gathering or crafting), and the two major additions of note in terms of content (NMs and side quests) were quickly forgotten since they were kinda "meh."

I'm not hating, as I do believe in the changes they're doing to it and that the game is getting to what it should have been. I just think it would be better to do an article once SE is confident enough in their game to start charging, so that the players coming back to check out the changes aren't entirely underwhelmed by them.

The game has barely changed at all from the awful, AWFUL state that it was in at launch. As another poster already said, there is quite literally nothing to do. On top of that, they are STILL clinging to this absolutely awful Market Ward system, which in effect, makes it neary impossible to buy or sell anything in any kind of reasonable amount of time.

How they managed to botch this game is so far beyond me that I cannot even begin to comprehend it. The previous development team need to fall on their swords in shame.

I think the worst thing SE has done, is stay the course... and not listen to fan base...

They could make game alot better with Auction House, a simple AH... but they refuse, they refuse to even place one and has not even made a comment about placing one.

I know MMOs have rough starts, but this is horrid even by those standards. They took a step backsward in 2001 with ideas and poorly patched concepts. In fact looking at other newly made MMOs, they manage to find favor with many and they are playable. So that New MMO excuse is crap, and they need updates that really matter before the end of the year....

This game doesn't look like it's improving from this one point, and the year is fast approaching.
