I don't think it's the same people. Why would same people that hack Sony use a simple thing like DDoS attack? Thats not even hacking...

considering youve never "showed someone whos boss" why would this time be any different?

really all this talk of people saying theyd kick someones ass over something on the internet is dumb.  nobody ever does anything.  so quit lying about it.

god i think violence over a video game has only happened twice that i know of.  and one was in china, the other korea.

so quit typing or watch porn or something.

no but if they stole my personal info or bank card numbers (a la citibank hack) i would kick their asses.

This entire hacking fiasco can be laid on the backs of lazy programmers.  All these systems were designed to be accessed remotely for maintenance purposes and I am not talking about gamers access, I am talking about system access.

All these operating systems need to be designed to be far more secure.  Windows is a good example of a poorly written operating system.  You can write a program to run at level 0 in the kernal, same as basic system functions.  Try that on a IBM mainframe system and you get no where.

We need better and more secure software at the operating system level.

i really really don't get why people find it fun to screw around with others. The only ones they are hurting with this are the regular gamer.. *sigh*

Why would real hackers want attack EVE, playststion, nintendo? It's definately government/corporate funded to try manipulate get the younger generation into to giving up more digital rights.

Just wait and see there will be more...

Possibly, but this was not a penetrating hack. This was a Denial of Service attack, one of (if not the) most basic digital attacks and one that a 14 year old (with a botnet) or group of 14 year olds could do from their basement. Nothing was stolen, nothing was compromised, all this resulted in was a lot of inconvenience. CCP's Chief Operations Officer took the servers down because DoS attacks can be followed by more serious hacking attempts, so it was a security precaution (as he plainly stated). In a way, you could compare it to cutting off the power before breaking in and robbing the house, but I personally think it just draws attention to the fact that hey, the system's being attacked, more akin to firing a flare to light your position before attempting an ambush.

The little kids of LuLzSec (lul means dick in dutch so i guess they concider themselfs dicks aswell) said they will keep attacking companies and countries with hack attacks and if that said company will try to do something against them legally they shall bombard the company with even more hacks. Thats just a declaration of war, there for i think these little boys need to be treated as a treath for global security.

They claim that if they can hack you then your security wasn't good enough there for its in their rights to break in and steal stuff, shut stuff down, etc. But any good hacker can get into systems that are well protected. Beside should i break into their house, steal their credit cards, sell their family photo's on the internet and shut down their computers. Then when they are crying why the hell i did that i reply "well i could break into your house easally there for it was my right to do this". Cause thats the same freaking thing. Disobeying the law and then placing myself above it to justify it. No lulzsec should be dealt hardly with, cause after they are done  with companies they will go after you and me. They will be responsible for more control over our internet use. They destroy so much just because they can. They opend war, and should be treated as war criminals, i don't its cybor war , they wanna play with the big boys, then these pathetic little nerds shall be punished like big boys and then their parents can't protect them anymore.

This is griefing on an epic scale, but at the core of it exactly the same mentallity as s PK who griefs another player until that player is forced to log out of a game. Well, lets hope thats all it is.

    IMO, there is one of 2 reasons this is happening;

    1. These guys are the worst case of morons, but are really only the natural evolution of the modern low self esteem internet dick that needs to extert power over others to make themselves feel worth something in their empty existence.

    2. They have a sponsered unspoken agenda to create a feeling of paranoia and anger that the internet using public demands that governments (or even a new internaional body for action against cyber crime...) introduce a raft of draconian new laws to regulate the internet. Not possible? It's been donw many times before...

Concieve an aim, create a threat via action and media that supports that aim by creating outrage paranoia and fear, make the public scream for action, introduce the 'solution' to the threat you have created and achieve your aim, all the while convincing the public it's what they themselves wanted.

Okay...to all you referring to these jokers at Lulzsec as muppets...please don't do it anymore.  I like muppets...have ever since I was a kid.  To refer to these hacker-losers as *Muppets* is an insult to Muppets everywhere.  Please, refer to them (the hacker-losers) as *Puppets*.  Thank you.

*This message brought to you by concerned Muppet-fans everywhere.  Hug a Muppet.  Smack the hacker.*

quite seriously, it's not just they get in legal trouble judges can say ok, it's a felony to possess a computer, cell phone, even go as far as barring any device that can connect to the internet like a PS3 or 360.

This is no real suprise. CCP aren't likely to have great security defending their property...Maybe a few fishing trawelrs and that's about it!

Seriously, though, I would fear for my credit card and personal info under these circumsatnces. Does CCP ofer gamer cards yet?

This is all part of EVE's intended  no holds bared PVP gameplay experience

to me this is just like the WARDEC that made  casual play  suck for me.

CCP have allowed time card subscriptions almost since the beginning, at least since 2004. You dont have to give them any personal information at all to play if you dont want to.

Fully agree with the "put them on an island and nuke it" idea.  The havoc and loss that they cause is bad enough, but one of these days asshats like these are going to cause someone to die. Whether it be computers flipping out in a hospital, or controlling air traffic control computers, or something, but it'll happen.  When they're finally caught, are they going to say they were doing it just for laughs? I don't f'ing care.  Treat them like murderers and send them all to Texas where the death penalty line is an express lane.

And maybe that is the goal of these "anonymous hackers?"  Never trust anything on face value in this world.  It is possible this is a bunch of 12 year olds jerking off and it is possible this is some coordinated effort to get this legislation.  Or it could be something else entirely different.

People don't just do shit for shits and giggles.  Most people can be bought and sold cheap and that is what I believe is behind these attacks, monetary gain.  Either direct or indirect.

I mean my heart wants to believe in noble anti-heros sticking it to the system, but I know what people are deep down.

Well, in my time on this earth I have learned that "yeah, sometimes people do things for shits and giggles".

Really. there are people out there who mess around just because they like to mess around. Nothing more sinister or intelligent than that.

Lol This was NOT Lulsec or Anonymous, they are frying bigger fish and more so working for the people.  This was probably some small group of gold farmers working to get info on accounts to steal everything.  Happens more often than you think.
