Sure, they are Funcom and might make the same mistake of getting pressured by their marketing department and releasing the game early, but TSW has already had more development time than AoC and AO.  It's been in development for reportedly since 2005 and was officially announced early 2007, that's a lot of time to polish the game and get all the bugs worked out.

From the GDC videos I'd say they still have a long way to go (some things looked a bit clunky), but I'm still going to be rooting for them.

If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say an early to mid 2012 release.  Not much information about the game right now, though beta is rumored to be starting soon.  I'd imagine they'd want a longer beta time from their experiences with AoC and AO releases.

TSW is using same gameengine as AoC has been updated with, sow there are probely less problems with TSW than they had with AoC. As there is now classes there will not be the same problem with ballansing classes.  And they are making the content fast and easyer for the TSW.  And I to belive that the game is here within a years time, as the closed beta is set to start in may.

Sources..? You can't just claim something like that when, as far as i know atlest although admittedly i hav't been following this game that much..without some kind of proof or facts behind it. Thats how rumors start, and rumors don't help anything in any way.

Sources for what? the fact that they just upgraded the AoC engin to the same engin they are going to use in TSW?

I dunno, check out the AoC forums, and i think its mentioned somewhere on the TSW site.

This is a gaming forum, not a midterm paper, your source is google.

However a date as suggested above might fight into the lore all too well to be passed up as a release date.

Also should point out that the mayans used cyclical time, as in a circle, theres no end, if im correct, just the dawn of a new age for them...smart people, sept for that whole never inventing or using a wheel thing...stange people indeed...

For the engine info there are tons of sources: articles, AoC forums, TSW forums where official statements of this being the case have been made.

On the start of beta we have: "first external beta test coming two months hence" http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/03/10/gdc-2011-funcom-talks-the-secret-worlds-pve-pvp-and-arg/ (dated May 10 and product of the GDC presentations, i believe)  and  "the first closed Beta will start in about 2 months – in April/May timeframe! That one will be truly ‘closed’ though – Funcom does not intend to distribute any keys just yet, so chances of getting in are slim. The better news is about what happens next: at a roughly two months cadence they plan to start subsequent Betas"  http://www.tswo.pl/aktualnoci/122-funcom-reveala-new-information-about-the-secret-world-at-gdc2011  also an article based on the GDC presentations.

That would be too late for them to make any money of it :/

What if they aren't after money?  What if they are the catalyst causing the end of the world and Ragnar is actually a demon in human form?

In that case, we'll have to do the unthinkable and preorder in hopes of getting a useful preorder weapon or armor to see us through the flying nukes, meteors, and assorted germ warfare plagues.

I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.

Cmon guys, have a little faith in Funcom. I can say that the game looks great and the people working on it have a lot of latent. I can't talk about release but closed beta is "suposed" to start around July.

I am waiting more on The Old Republic myself but since I kind of know the team of TSW, I am very much looking forward to it too. Keep the hype up. :)

I don't think I'll be preordering this one, but I'm keeping an eye on it and will probably get it just after release once there's more available from friends. I had Age of Conan preordered and felt that it wasn't really ready for release and was disapointed with a lot of things in that, like the instantanced areas and how you travelled/loaded each area.

I'm really hoping that with this being fully owned by Funcom, that they don't have licence holders telling them it has to be out right now and that they release it when they feel it is ready to be played.

The game looks promising but release date is a ways off if the just started limited beta, maybe the holiday season???

Besides, I have a new policy that alot of mmo fans are adopting, no game purchased until at least 60 days after launch. that way I can make an "informed decision" about the game before handing over the cash!

The risk of buying a brand new MMO doesn't seem that high, even it you find out that you don't like it.

Let's say you spend $50, and get a month free play. Even if you don't play much after the initial 30 days you still got multiple days of entertainment for $50.

Going to one 3D movie these days costs $12 or so, or one night at the bar is easily $30.

Thats true, and a movie is maybe 2 hours. But theres that feeling like you've been cheated when after all the exitement has built up, and it's finally installed, and then patched up, and then feels a bit broken.

TSW is in Closed Beta Already alright. The Financial report from 25th of May states this black on white. It's a fact, so now it's just to wait on signs of this bitch going to open Beta. I hope we'll see TSW under christmastree in 2011 even.

I'm in the agreement camp here.  Especially if a pre-order usually comes with a week or 2 head-start, then it's certainly as much entertainment, generally, than I might get out of many single-player RPG's, of which most mmorpgs play like.

naw they want it released well before that, tho i could immagine a major game event leading up to that date, wich would be pretty bad ass.
