Yeah, let's not get too analytical. I mean, that never happens here!
Let's also throw the metaphor aside for a second. The announcement of Origin is, I think it's fair to say, the first step towards everything else that will come before launch day. That's what I meant by 'early tracks'. I was no more specific than that because we have chosen not to be. We don't want to announce date after date and then slip repeatedly.
I'll also re-iterate this. We won't sneak out the release date announcement on you. It won't just pop up out of the blue in a Friday Update. We probably won't outright tell you exactly when it's coming, either, but trust me, when we're ready to talk about release date, we won't be that subtle about it. (Hence: the big train coming metaphor.)
Let me leave you with something else. Planning is well underway for launch. Everyone is laser-focused towards that goal. We see it coming. Make no mistake, though: this game (and the service that goes with it) is BIG. Huge. Launching something this big takes a lot of work from a lot of people, and a lot of planning.
Don't ever think we're not hard at work every day, and moving towards a date... that's currently in 2011.
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.
While I like EA's products (Fifa, anything by Bioware ^_^ etc) their 'support' and stuff outside of 'games' have been god-awful.
From the horrendously bad EA-Downloads program to the what-the-heck-are-you-thinking store, I have zero confidence in this 'Origin'.
In short, Why can't you be like Steam, EA? WHY?!!!
I might be wrong, but I think that is what they are trying for. Read the article though and decide for yourself.
Kinda how they 'tried' to be before? :P
This is their second attempt at this digital stuff and based on their first attempt, the only way is up cause it can not be worse than what they have right now.
A friend of mine bought DA:O from their 'store' and spent the last 3 days trying to download it.
This afternoon I ended up just gifting her the Steam version and told her it is worth wasting 40gigs of bandwidth on it.

So are you mad because the current system sucks and they recognize it or are you mad because they are try to fix it?

I never liked these download game mentality. Give me a plain old box to display in my room, and be done with it. I don't shed ONE tear for Steam, because it always sucked and I hated games which needed Steam verification like the Total Wars series.
And the nerve they have to name some dumb "social network" or whatever Origin! The name of THE greatest game developing studio EVER, which EA bought and destroyed! Origin - We create(d) worlds will forever be the name of the best game studio, and misusing the brand for same godsforsaken network... the audacity!
It all sounds quite bad. All these EA hubris dreams of super control over their users and whatnot. And for those who want to buy games online it means to have installed several services like Steam now instead of just one service. Which of course makes the risk greater, also.

If you have to run Origins to play SWTOR, like BNET and WoW, I won't be playing. Simple as that.
I'm sure you'll be missed However I"m not sure where you're getting your info? SInce currently Origins is quite like Battle.net, and you definately do NOT need to be logged into Battle.net to run WoW!
I'm realy getting the vibes, that retail box integrate to Origins too... Not that I'm in any hurry to get SWTOR... Generaly I'm not going for an other Steam, one is good for me, no need for more, fully DRM free services are different story...
I was going to post this, but seems it's already been posted. I've been using Origins because it's required for the new Sims 3: Generations expansion, and from what I can see, it's not much different than Steam. Logging into Origins I can see my copy of Mass Effect 2 I own and can install it just like it was Steam. I also can create a profile, join groups, etc. Still, Origins is used to Update Sims 3 now, but it will update it whether you run Origins or not.
I don't think this Origins thing will be as bad as people think.

I think you're over-reacting. The average user who doesn't visit these kind of forums doesn't care. They just want the game on their PC, that it playable, fun, and worth their time. Once the game is loaded and people are in it, nobody is going to care what the source of the download is or where the box was that they threw in their closet.

He made another post after that one even:

I prefer they fix their current system to show they can actually do some of this non-gamy stuff first. Then launch a new thing.
But I guess that doesn't have the 'all brand new!!!' marketing angle.

It would also be a major waste of time, money, and other resources. Just fix the old OR make the new, but don't waste everything by doing both.
