depends on who you ask, those are the answers. the only official thing is some guy at ea did a interview that stated if it doesnt ship before the end of quarter 3 2011 then they would lose alot of money, think millions here. so I would imagine that is a big incentive to get it shipped by then. but bioware and ea both have said the game will ship when it is ready, they both have so much money riding on this game, they dont want to ship it early and it not be ready. I want it right now and would be happy but if this game has any problems as long as its been in development and as long as its been announced then you can bet the haters are gonna crucify this game in the public, hell most of them already are and they havent even seen the game yet.
Expect sometime near the end of 2011. My guess is September based on the fact that EA's financial year ends on 31 March 2012 and most likely they want at least 6 months of sales and subs in this year's P&L numbers.
They aren't saying exactly when since they want to keep the competition guessing and, as someone pointed out in another thread on the topic, some companies (like Blizzard) like to target competitor's release dates for marketing their own games (e.g. new content releases, discounts, welcome back programmes etc.). I expect we will hear no more than a month or so before actual release that it's coming out.
Can anybody post a link on where I can read or watch where the official approximate release date of second half of 2011 that the guy from ea said that?

"While we fully anticipate launching Star Wars: The Old Republic in Q2 or Q3, the low end of our guidance range assumes the outside possibility of a January launch."
These forward-looking statements are valid as of May 4, 2011 only. The Packaged Goods title release schedule excludes Star Wars: The Old Republic, which is expected to launch in either Q2 FY12 or Q3 FY12.
Q2 FY12 is July through September 2011, and Q3 FY12 is October through December 2011.

Anyone doubts this, I will be taking bets momentarily.
honestly, if we get a release date at a convention i would suspect pax prime, not e3 cause i get the feeling they will wait as long as possible to give a date

I agree, but hopefully they will atleast announce a beta date at E3.

well problem with that is that bioware has said that of they do an open beta, it will be no more than 1 month before release so that would basically be giving a date. unless you are referring to a closed beta date. personally i feel that what they are calling game testing is their closed beta since it involves testers outside the company. but i know some people feel its still an alpha stage since bioware doesn't specifically call it beta. I just think they have been avoiding using those terms because they don't mean what they used to.

Yeah, I was referring to closed beta and your right they seem to be very aware of how the word beta is percieved now adays as a free trial of sorts so maybe they wont announce any kind of beta testing.
But traditionally the alpha phase of testing the devs only invite a couple hundred people at a time as they have been doing since october, but as the game moves in to beta they usually open it up to the thousands over time. I think it would be a good PR move to announce a beta at E3 and could go a long way in curbing some of the restlessness I've seen on the swtor boards and even in the gaming media that are frustrated at the long developement time.

ah ok. i was under the impression alpha was all in-house with maybe freinds and family and closed beta was the start of out of house testing. thanks for the clarification. i do agree that iot would be for the best if they announced something, but bioware seems to want to stick to their own schedule when it comes to these things no matter what. which is a pain in the ass for the rest of us. XD

I am guessing September as well based on the release of the Star Wars Blu-ray set in Sep.
"Star Wars Blu-ray set ships Sept. 12th/16th (world/NA), has 40 hours of special features"
Would be smart of LA to add some kind of in game item along with the purchace of the set. Or getting a head start weekend if you buy the set. So if it is the 16th in the US for the set. It could be the 20th for TOR.

Based on the massive scale of this game, I expect there to be multiple delays. I personally don't see it releasing this year. I hope I'm wrong, but I hope Bioware maes the game polished and fun to play even more.

I would bet this is probably the primary reason for the silence. On the other hand they are probably thinking of the "older" blizzard tactic of releasing and announcing things when new games release. With acticrap now they would probably release news of some more new fees for all thier games right at the release time of ToR and GW2 lol.

There is no set release date yet, but they are targeting a late 2011 release.
Some months a spring 2011 release was rumored, and noe the date is at the end of 2011. All just rumors of course.
