Poor Support for Dragon Age: Origins Causes Customer Loss

deathgiantdeathgiant Member Posts: 32

There is a growing movement within the DA:O community that I will do my best to speak for here. 4/11 . . . server crash removing ability to play ~single-player~ game. DMR makes it so they track your 'gaming habits.' They punish those who actually paid for the game. And now we cannot even play it . . . I was excited about this mmo, as were many others. But I am rethinking things in light of the recent . . . 'what . . . it's broken? reinstall, its on your end' server crash event.

Just a heads up on how they cant support servers for a single-player game and deny that there is a problem when there obviously is . . . extrapolate for yourself, should you so wish.

EDIT

It has come to my attention that my sentiments are underinformed. Ignore.

End EDIT

I would but... nah, just don't care. EAs kept a good number of servers running for other games over plenty of years... not really too worried about that part of SWTOR.  Sorry for your loss, or whatever, but, it has no bearing on SWTOR.

*shrug* guess it is the principle of the thing. not sure if that matters in this day and age anymore . . .

Huh? That's odd. From what I know of DA:O. Online is only for updateing achivements and stuff to your online profile, oh and you need to log in so it checks if you have certain DLC for your account but it should not prevent you from playing otherwise.

Anything that isnt the 'vanilla' game has to be authenticated every time you log in to be able to access it. So, yes. You can play the game. No, you cant play anything beyond that besides a few special items from pre-order etc.

Servers for MMOs and SPGs are two different beasts, DA:O you can only download content I wasn't aware that you could play in the same world as other people. Your post has no bearing on SWTOR what so ever, i find the DA server to be basically a stat tracker. Based on gamer reports from the different game conventions the ToR servers and the game seemed to be pretty stable.

I'm sure it does to some, afterall, SWG,  SOE... theres plenty of people who won't buy from them anymore.   I just don't find a major correlation between the two games at this time.  Especially since I've just gone through to play the ME Series and their networks seem to still work fine for that content.

Moved to PC gaming forum. The topic is more of a general/PC gaming issue than SWTOR-related.

On a personal note, I ran into this problem myself recently. If you launch the game while logged out, it should work. You don't need to constantly reauthorize your content.

    What customer loss?

You have evidence right? A few facts:

    1) Dragon Age Origins is a 25GB Game that was given an expansion and several DLCs. The DLC file size was around 6GB in total.

    2) How can there be a customer loss when the game is a singleplayer game? There are no "Customers" to lose since the game itself is not on a subscription base and once the game is paid for the seller has your money.

    3) Dragon Age - Origins has a wide modding community and has a lot of fixes. In fact the entire game is toned down until you download the mods which unlock the "mature" version of what is already a mature game.

    4) Those who bought Dragon Age II during a certain time until the end of this month can get a FREE complete version of MASS EFFECT 2 straight from the Bioware Social Site....

There is also a facebook game (though I am not registered in facebook) and a pen and paper RPG book released as well with very simple rules.

So exactly what is your "case" about LOSING customers when there is nothing to lose and the leading marketting groups out there including the Bioware site reports reaching the 1 million sales mark faster than Dragon Age I and having greater response than Dragon Age - Origins?

Right now your argument is "Subjective" and not "Objective" enough to warrant any claim.

Its true that I like Dragon Age, but the order of my life is that I am a human being first, a scientist and an artist second and finally a gamer third.

Hence my saying that i am underinformed in the first post almost immediately after i posted this thread. Tried to delete it but couldnt figure out how. But gratz on reading the EDIT as well as the post. My sentiments were underinformed. I said it again. Happy yet?

I was treating you like how people in the real world with respect are treated.

Example: When the Japan Quakes occured, the Governor of Tokyo (who is the CEO of a pornographic publisher/developer company) claimed the Quakes were as an "act of God" and was deserving.

A few days later he "edited" what he said through apology, It doesn't change the fact the original message was stated and said. Of course i posted based on the intro of the thread.

Besides, I was using it as a way of saying that if you did buy Dragon Age II, you could get MASS EFFECT II for free if you havent played it yet. Its not bad being given a $40 game + add ons too.

    *sigh and facepalm*
  • This is why I don't like EA, because they seem to make poor game after poor game

  • ShinamiShinami Member UncommonPosts: 825

EA is a company that buys (and funds) small developer groups and publishes their titles. EA itself makes poor games, but developers they own or run make better games.

Dragon Age was made by Bioware and Published by EA games.

Bioware can track whatever they want i realy dont care after they screw up DA2, plus DA:O with DLC i dont dl ever i dont buy any game from them anymore.

Its there loss not mine plenty of other games i can play and SWtor(WoW sci fi clone im not intrested in from beginning). Sinds bioware is ruled by EA only thing that matters is consoles and $$$ so my intrest stops there hehe.

I bought DA:O for 50 euros and i should play this untill end of days if i want with also DLC if i have it they dont have any right to disconnect me and then i can't play anymore but if they do, not one 1 eurocent of them anymore EA included.

    Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009.....
In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.

I am more wary about the lackluster quality of DAO 2 than this. Makes me wonder if they can pull SW:TOR of if they cant even produce a good sequel to a single player game.

What about  the FIFA series,  a couple of years ago FIFA games were crap, now they are outstanding. EA really put their act together with FIFA.

I don't like winter sports, but i heard that NHL is also great.

So clearly they don't make just bad games.

I'm not a fanboi of EA and yeah their very profit oriented(greedy), but so is almost every company(Activision, Obsidian, Lucas arts..)

I really don't understand this hatred of EA.

    Played: SWG-FFXI-EQ2-Aion

    Anticipated in order of Hype:
    ArcheAge
    GW2
    TERA
    SWTOR

Not enough info, but looks promising:
    Blade & Soul
