This is what seems to happen to me with MMOs lately. I get bored. I was so excited to play this game every day until today. I'm level 40 and I got bored. What the heck.

You probably played too much each day and burned yourself out. You'll probably want to play it again in a month or two. :P

Lvl 26 today and i got bored.  I just don't want to level and do kill quests and gather quests for 50 damn levels.  I think I may go to skill point based games like UO or something.  I don't want to do it anymore and its just the same old same old.  I didn't expect it to be different but I feel burned way out on leveling in games these days.

This is the time for a GOOD sandbox game to come out. The MMO comunity is finally ready for the change.

So I've been playing MMORPG games since 1999, and back then it was EQ or bust. The only things to do in EQ were to level, or maintain your max level for raids. Back then, there were very few quests in the sense of todays exclamation mark system, and even fewer opportunities to solo. What made that game fun, was HAVING to group up and enjoy the company of friends.

I think a system like that is irrelevant today because people WANT quests and they WANT to have the option to solo everything. The issue we face is, even though it is preferable... it is BORING. Even then, when you hit the max level it's all about simply... getting more gear to replace your old gear for the sake of getting better gear.

How did I remedy it? Well, for 5 easy payments of 14.99 you can have your very own...

That's a joke, the reality is - you can't. The system is here to stay, not for all games though. My advice, is to pick up another game in a different genre for a while, and when the MMO cravings hit... try something like EVE or pick your sub back up and try to grind as fast as possible to cap so your experience with the game can change and possibly breathe new life in to your interest. I did it with WoW and let's face it... there are plenty of similarities between RIFT and WoW.

Other than that, I'd say your best bet is to wait for GW2. TOR will indeed be more of the same, except this time with a AAA storyline for your character to dive in to. If nothing in my above rant suits your particular interests currently, I'd suggest going to a gym and making friends there - while playing 2 hours of Basketball competitively twice a week or something.

That's funny you actually say that about a sandbox mmo. I installed fallen earth tonight, played for an hour, rolled my eyes, sighed, and shut off my computer..

You guys are so silly.  You don't want to do kill quests, gather quests, protect quests, escort quests, delivery quests, crafting quests, exploration quests, dungeon quests, epic storyline quests, rift quests, pvp quests, and the dozen or so other quests... but you think that using the same skill one million times to get 100.0 in that skill will be more exciting and less of a grind.  Please excuse me while I laugh hysterically.  I would love a good sandbox to come out, I just think that mindset is really funny.

To the OP and other people who are bored.  I'd suggest logging in and doing something that you enjoy.  I'm level 36 and I only log in to do what I feel like doing.  I don't log in and force myself to level up, or run a dungeon, or grind pvp.  I just do what I want.  Therefor, I have not burned myself out forcing myself to do a certain thing when I really don't feel like doing it.  That's why sandboxes really work, you can do anything you want.  There are more options than you think in theme parks, just don't get caught up in chasing the proverbial carrot all the time.

Fallen Earth is as themeparkish as they get. People who call Fallen Earth a themepark have no idea what the definition of a sandbox mmorpg is. Try playing a real themepark game like EvE or Darkfall, you'll feel the differense instantly.

    Good luck :)

like other have said the trick is to play different various games.

for example i play DDO as f2p but i have bought alot of adventure packs and have lots of various stuff unlocked like 32 pt builds etc but i havent played that for last 3 months or so as i am bored with classic S&M (sword n magic xD ;) ) as well a s guild wars which i just go back to now n then (im really waiting for GW2 which will replace GW

i aslo play star trek online and shores of hazeron which is what i been playing last month or so im really hooked for now

also i would like to add it seem many now just play mmo n nothing else evry now n then we ALL need a break if only to go outside n smell the roses or w/e etc etc

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

If the skill is fun then yes.  It may be the same "grind" but if its a fun grind such as...well Taming in UO then its not that bad.  It's not so much just skill points that I think are fun but fun mechanics like I would go tame a dragon and kill dragons.  That was one of my favorite things to do in UO.  I enjoyed being a bard and treasure hunting.  I think there needs to be a new UO.  It was just a whole different experience than today's mmo's.  Eve is a skill point game however it's nothing like UO.  It is a sandbox but a totally different style of playing.  Maybe i should just go back and play UO.  Nastalgia is powerful, but if there was a new game with the same types of skills or some elements that made UO fun I think that would be just wonderful.

I totally just ranted on and on there but what im saying is it isn't the clicking of a button a million times to get a skill that is fun.  It's the skill itself thats fun and the things you can do with it.  Also, I wasn't constantly worried about oh I have to get my level or 2 in today.  Instead I was like "oh cool another skillup."  I dunno...it's definitely a different feeling.

Rift is just another reskinned 10-pigger. It is too familiar, that is my problem. I got burnt on it by level 31.

Also known as *GASP* real life!!! You know that thing where you may get bored with video games but you're actually supposed to do something with!!!!  It's a really hard concept.  But considering our country's disgusting lack of intelligence or attention span, those of you who actually don't do anything in your life may be bored with Rift.  I do this thing called *Gasp* College and *Work* so it fits me perfectly at this point.  And is yet to make me bored.

It seems that regardless of what we say, no other game can give you as much fun as UO. I suggest you follow your instincts and just play the game. The analogy you stated simply doesn't make sense for me. I could easily swap them out and say "Oh cool I levelled up".

Actually I think that is a lot more entertaining. I love setting my own goals and being able to do what ever I want. That is what made SGW so great. I would just play non combat if I was sick if that grind, or explore.  Sandbox games are great because it gets you to think about what kinds of stuff you want to accomplish and DO THEM. Themeparks are just like well I guess ill ride all the rides then go home......

I'm down for a sandbox game, butit would have to be done right. Sandbox games seem to have poor execution in some form or another. And are filled with pvp junkies.

Hah, I was just about to say the same thing.

Played: EQ1, EQ2, WoW, WAR, EVE, LotRO, AoC, RoM, FoM, CoX, PotBS, GW, SWG, VG, PS, and others.

You may need to take a break from MMO's, I have on more than one occasion. Three months and I was looking foward to playing them again.

Went and bought 3 star wars games and 2 PS3 games today.  Hopefully that will give me the break I need to get back interested in Rift or some other MMO.

I hope you're not refering to Fallen Earth as a sandbox.. Its more onrails and themepark-ish then even Rift is.

Boredom is so horrible. Hope it doesn't happen to me when I finally get to play World of Darkness when CCP finally release it. After all that waiting and then boredom hits. Arrgh.  I'll play it once or twice a week to prevent that from happening. Max 7 days a week at the most.

  • DragimDragim Member UncommonPosts: 867

Probably overplayed, but more obvious is that the game is probably like most other MMOs you've played and the underlining concepts are boring you along with the terrible community that plagues any new MMO.
