Hmpf. Pretty much like WOW then. Apart from the disbobery aspect and ZOMG NODES FOR EVERYONE!

Was hoping for some more innovation, tbh.

wow.... that was their creative crafting system? -.-

I had high hopes for crafting system but not anymore!

Personally I think it is a copy/paste from a game called "Dofus"

Back in 2005,2006 when "dofus" was not ruined with developers being high on $$$ the crafting system was exactly the same as what guildwar mentioned...

The only part that was grieving in the dofus crafting system was when certain monsters (rare ones) are needed to create special equipments (which are hidden) and that there is a chance of failing and losing the material that would cost all the money in the game....

    GOOD NEWS!

I like that system so while I find guildwar2 crafting not very original, it meets some of my standards...

Extremely underwhelmed. I suppose not everything can be innovative, and I don't know how or why anyone would change the system anyway so can't complain

Okay, let's talk about the most important part.

    That charr loom is AMAZING.

You seriously look like you could weave the hell out of things.

I've never heard 'badass' and 'textile' used in the same sentence before, but that is probably the most awesome Loom I've seen since Lucasarts...

    :)

if i like your idea then i will agree with you 100% along with many more ppl

while I don't see anything I don't like , i don't see anything that makes me sure that Crafting will be great!

what i do fear is that the are not doing enough work to make it work, be interesting and ad something to the game with out being irrelevant to do or not to do! To achive that it needs alot of work on balancing. A workload I have seen other developers underestimate.

Most info release by ArenaNet convince me that they nailing whats really important. This one didn't!

and about discovering reciepes , I hope there is a point to this besides the first one doing it before it goes on wiki! Else it's underwhelming imho.

How about ... crafting strawberry milkshakes? Strawberry milkshakes are great.

    Hmm no ..

How about having each recipe being able to crit into a better item, and each time that happens there is a tiny chance of you critting an even better, truly very rare item? Chances slightly modified by skills of course. (I'd like this one).

How about each combination of two crafting skills unlocking an extra, small range of specialist recipes? So a Jeweler / Weaponsmith would unlock an extra range of recipes which can't be accessed by a Jeweler / Armorsmith and the other way around. (I love that idea if I say so myself).

How about cooperating with fellow carpenters and building siege engines? To be used in the Mists?

Or miners actually being able to dig temporary shafts to mine resources but also to be used in WvWvW sieges?

Or building a boat! To cross vast bodies of water and boldly dynamic event where noone has dynamic evented before?

Or what about animal training or mechanic as a profession? Train / build mounts for other players? (if there will be any mounts to begin with)

Maybe become an architect and be able to build a wide range of player homes which can be erected in home instances.

No, no, no, I know ... work together with others to craft an open world pvp server! (just kidding).

Thing is, most of those things might not conflict with the lore, but neither of them go well with Anet's philosophy to keep everything really nice and simple for everyone. GW2 is quite the opposite of a sandbox afterall.

Anyway, so far it looks like the crafting will be evolutionary rather than revolutionary. I think noone can deny that.

Guys, guys... It is Guild Wars - crafting is a side thing!

As far as crafting is concerned, it's not something I care about. Could it be a bit more different than most crafting systems? For sure. However, at least there are some quality of life improvements in this crafting system that drives me nuts in other games (such as gathering). Also not losing your progression in a particular crafting profession is great when you change your profession. Discovering recipes is cool but like everything else in the gaming world it will be undermined by Wiki.

It remains to be seen how useful the items are when you craft them. One thing I was disappointed was it had the traditional skill up system, that always makes crafting grindy in my opinion.

Personally it sounds better than GW "crafting" is so it's good. As another poster has said before me, crafting in GW/GW2 is secondary rather than a true profession.

Personally it doesn't sound too bad compared to all the other MMOs out and is a huge step in the right direction for GW2 compared to GW.

PS: @DarkPony "How about having each recipe being able to crit into a better item" your not into Lord of the Ring Online by any chance are you?

How about an animal breeder profession for mini-pets?  It's crafting in a sense.

Am I actually seeing people complain on here? Have any of you even tried "crafting" in Guild Wars? This is a HUGE step up. More fleshed out than I expected to be honest.

It just looks so much like WoW, that it can't help but seem dissapointing. WoW truly has an awful boring and uninspired crafting system.

I had hoped they would have reserved crafting for some android/ Iphone mini game. anything other than the same old, hunt for nodes combine them with a receipt you know = predictable result + 1 skill = grind it forever.

We know SWG and EVE has the cool crafting ideas, why can't others utilise it? Why implant a lame system at all? Did GW need crafting? GW needed a auction house, better ways to trade and communicate. Not crafting! It needed more armor drops and rewards..

The interface does not look good either. I can't wait for this game, but I wish they had spent the development time and money on this feature on something else. I haven't meet many people who like WoW Crafting. I am surprised why they went this route!?

Does it matter in the first place? What it "looks" like doesn't matter. It's how it effects the economy and gameplay. ArenaNet built the crafting system in Guild Wars to be complimentary but not required to do. That's how they're approaching it in Guild Wars 2, only more fleshed out. Crafting geeks complained and wanted a better crafting system, this IS a better one whether you like it or not.

The crafting seems fairly basic compared with more indepth, complex crafting mechanics as seen in EVE or GW or an EQ2, I think I like SWTOR's approach towards crafting via the wider-scoped Crew Skills better. Still, it's a step up from GW crafting.

The discovery part I have my doubts about: I can only see it working in the first weeks or couple of months, a list of recipes will be compiled on some websites, then you'll have someone make a mod or app that'll present you that recipe and ingredients list ingame and then the situation will be the same as most other MMORPG's.

Of course, there'll be some recipes with very rare ingredients that will take a longer time to be found out and then made public on some websites.

The upgrading of existing items is a nice, handy touch.

The ACTUAL size of MMORPG worlds: a comparison list between MMO's

The ease with which predictions are made on these forums:
Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."

  • KaynokKaynok Member Posts: 111

The Guild Wars series has never been about gear or equipment. Making a crafting system as complex as the ones you mentioned would make it overly complex for GW. Yes it's basic, but again it's only complimentary.
