    Lol.

Xsyon is fun with a fun tribe, but it can be pretty monotonous and boring at times considering there's a lot missing.

You are basically dropped off in the middle of nowhere, with no clue what you are doing.  Good or bad?  That is up to you.

Also, the game is in a state of fairly early development, in my opinion as a 16 year online gaming vet.  This is a small indy game, and it isn't likely to see any real completeness or polish until next year some time.  If you come to the game, you need to have this in mind.  If you played Fallen Earth, and it felt clunky and frustrating to you, Xsyon isn't for you. The upside of this is that the devs are in DIRECT and nearly constant communication with the game's community. This is a nice breath of fresh air when compared to most other developers.  Because of this, the player base has rightfully been very forgiving for pre-launch testing issues.

Having given fair warning, this game does have a very bright figure for those who want to get involved in a sandbox game that will have community as a core feature.  The game seems to be an open book with a dynamic developer that is interested in what the players want.  They have amazing plans for the future dev and expansion of the game, and it is pretty exciting to be involved with it. It's not going to just be about combat, but will feature deep crafting, trade, politics, community, and other aspects of a true sandbox game.

At this point, only time will tell where this game will be a year from now, but as someone who is dying for a great sandbox, even if it is an indy niche game, I find this one extremely promising.

My impression as well. I let it go.

    "The current pre-launch issues aside..."

What aside? The current pre-launch issues "are" the issues. There's no content. Just hype.

I can understand how such a bare-bones game can attain a following of players that enjoy being involved with the game's growth/development and its community, but it is still a very, very niche game at best. It has been  'Pay-to-Beta'  since earlier last year and will continue to be that way even after launch. I would recommend any seriously interested players to wait until after launch to get more formal and objective feedback unless an incomplete FFA PVP 'survival' sim is exactly what is desired.

FFA PvP is incorrect and overused term.  Your alignment determines your looting rights.  I would suggest educating yourself before repeating mistakes of others.

I myself am enjoying the game, even with the hiccups.  This is not the first indy project I have played and followed.  Updates are just as exciting as the game is when new/better features come online.

If that is the limit of what you think you can do, then I suggest you play a game that does all the thinking for you.  WoW, RIFT, SWTOR are just a few that come into my mind.

So is this Darkfall with more Crafting, or a Tale in the Desert with PvE combat?

The game features open world PvP (with some small safe areas for now).  However, the game is a sandbox, and it will be heavily dependant on other features such as community, crafting, trade, etc.  It is NOT Darkfall.

If the events around Darkfall are any indication, I'm sure there's a group of players out there who are determined to make sure it becomes "all about full-loot, open world PvP", with all else being secondary and unimportant.

In fact, I would bet on it.

Darkfall was touted by AV for years about giving PvE and PvP equal importance. They talked about it in interviews and articles. They stated it in the FAQ section of their site. They had many PvE elements in their features list. It's apparent in the lengths they went to with mob AI, dependence on crafting, quests, dungeons, etc.

However, almost as though AV and Tasos never said a word, a certain group of DF (then) followers continued to beat the drum that DF was not at all about PvE, and all about PvP and anyone wanting PvE should go play another MMO. Any evidence provided that PvE was indeed an important part of the game was met with the equivalent of fingers being jammed in ears and shouting "lalalalala!! Can't hear you! It's all about hardcore PvP!! No PvE!!!".

In my opinion, it's the height of willful ignorance and blatant arrogance to see people telling the creators of a game that they're wrong about their own creation. But there ya go. The behavior spilled over into launch where they continued pounding that drum, basically trying to reduce the game to Counter-Strike in a large persistent world. They might yet get their way. And hey, if AV is willing to play along... more power to them.

Hopefully the same won't happen with Xsyon, and people looking for a true sandbox experience will get to have one without the "PvP ONLY!!!" crowd trying to ruin it there, too.

Here's hoping that won't happen, because Xsyon sounds like it might be the first solid sandbox release actually deserving of the label in some time.

Good analysis of a true potential problem.  I have seen of leet haxors touting how tough and edgy and cool they are in game and on the boards.  They are the one using the word carebear in every sentence.

I think they may fail in this game.  Evil aligned players (either by choice or circumstance) will respawn way back at their home base.  Neutral and Good players will respawn where killed (and the abilty to run around as a ghost for 30 sec).  I see that detering the ganker populaltion real quick.   The "tee-hee killed another noob" crowd will get sick of being sent back to their totem real quick as most of them have no attention span anyway.

I LOL's at this, sort of how I felt.  Guess I jumped in looking for a sandbox style game a la EVE, but in its present state there just isn't enough of the stuff I enjoy in MMORPG's (killing stuff, selling stuff in marketplaces, exploring) and too much building and crafting for my tastes.  (No point to buidling somnething if you don't have to defend it from others trying to burn it to the ground)

Perhaps one day after it gets some more content under its belt I'll return and see what's developed for at the moment I too can't see playing a game to do yardwork, I get enough of that at my home.

Alignment isn't implemented. I would suggest confirming things before jumping on others about them. FFA PvP has nothing to do with looting. I would  suggest you learn what terms mean before before using them, incorrectly.

Alignment will be implemented.  Repeating this is a FFA-PvP is incorrect.

FFA= free for all.  Say it until you understand it.  This is not Xsyon.  Looting rights do fall under this umbrella, as does alignment.  Plus you cannot (will not) be able to gank your tribemates, or aligned freinds.  The only FFA is for the evil aligned toons, which for the better part, makes up part of the quests of this game.  If is red, it's dead.

PvP= Plaver v Player.  Xyson does not boil down to 1v1 battles.  It has them, but not without consequences.  (See FFA)

I see more then a few people coming from MO and DF exclaiming they are gonna be evil bad asses with the "FFA-PVP".  Don't bother with Xsyon, it is not for you.

I like my Sandbox ripe, plump & saucy  :)

Perpetuum, Xsyon etc.. are still alpha / beta stage imo

Give the devs some time to get the game right with all features, and the game will rock.

    Probably 3 to 5 years

Indeed, I think it's kinda silly paying 40 or 50 bucks for a game that's still in Alpha (and was suppoed to be released ages ago)... but hey, maybe that's just me.

Either way I'll just stick to Wurm Online for now ;-)

I can assure you that it is just not you. That is why I recommend interested players to wait. While there is obviously a small, tight community that is willing to grow with this incomplete Indie title, most players do not want to pay for alpha/beta testing an MMO, let alone pay for long-term for such testing.
