Age of Conan Announced Hardcore PvP Servers with FULL LOOT!

NateArcadeNateArcade Member UncommonPosts: 83

here's the forum post. how many of you will be rerolling on the new servers?

I'm interested to see what full-loot does to the in-game economy and such. moreover, how will gear balancing and availability factor into these shenanigans?

edit: Sorry Mods, I'm a terrible person -- please move this to the AoC forums when you can :(

We haven't decided on the details here, and it probably won’t be looting from a players equipped inventory, but may include some combination of items from their regular inventory and ‘generated’ loot.

Interesting step. But only full/partial loot is not enough to make PvP in this game mean something.

    • There will be a player looting system from PVP. We haven't decided on the details here, and it probably won’t be looting from a players equipped inventory, but may include some combination of items from their regular inventory and ‘generated’ loot.

That doesn't sound anything like a full looting system to me.

I would be very interested in playing AoC with a full loot system, but the game would require a large overhaul to include scraping the level system and implementing a skill base system. Full looting in a gear/level based game is just silly.

I haven't played the game in a while, but I remember the classes being very imbalanced when I did. I don't see how this will work unless they are able to radically improve the balance before this is released...

Funcom is making a social experiment.

Lets see how it works out...

To me it sounds like they're trying to get players from a different niche to come to AoC and I don't think it will work.

They do have a chance if they play this right. Basically, AoC is the only AAA title that will offer something like that. If you combine that with far superior graphics to anything to date they have a chance. Full loot is impossible due to BOP items but still there are nice posibilities of non BOP items that could drop.

Game might not be for everybody.

    People may hate FunCom.

    At least they're trying something.

Won't be successful unless they do something about Bori.

If they do change or remove Bori, then it'll be a blast for real PvP fans.

Seems that`s up to the players to decide, and the polls show 95% for removing bori on that server so far.

As much as I dislike Funcom this (while overdue) is nice to see. Actually letting the players tweak the ruleset is a good idea, that forum is actually full of passionate fans who have compiled pages and pages of great ideas since beta. The sceptical side of me is holding out to see if they actually listen though.

if i remember right, all gear was obtained via questing in the beginning in this game.

is there some kind of,not "dailys" but  "hourlys" or "minutes" kind of missions now?from where you can obtain new gear instantly?

or do you have to fight naked and unarmed and beg money for a new gear which could be nice.

    As I said before.

FFA full loot PvP doesn't work in a level/gear based game. Especially not when its so heavily instanced.

I seem to remember reading that players wouldn't be looting all that their kill has nor would there be a guarantee that you would loot from the player. could be some sort of generated money or items from a loot table.

so it might not touch weapons or armor but might allow a player to take money or get something randomly generated.

Too little, too late. This game needs to hurry up and die. Better yet, it can PK itself and loots its servers and other salvageable materials.

Trammies need to stop polluting the MMORPG landscape. They already have enough games in which to emote hugs and sell garbage by the banks.

Hurry up and die? What's up, with that? I enjoy AoC, in fact it is the only MMO out at the moment I have any interest in. I am all for this game hanging around and evolving. I don't PvP, but I hope this new server will provide something to keep the PvP crowd content, if not thrilled. ATM all they do on the forums is complain about being ignored and set on the back burner while Funcom focuses on PvE content.

now this is a weird move.....

  • lakokalakoka Member UncommonPosts: 97

The only MMORPG I was actually able to reach end game (in level based mmos...) bc the gameplay was actually cool and the classes.

So this is very interesting ! I'll follow this up.

Agreed. As long as equipped doesn't drop there's no point in playing against the players who can grind for the best gear. I'm hoping Funcom takes a page or two from MMO history - I played Age of Shadows once and I'm not interested in repeating it, this time from a level-based angle.

I'm still enjoying AoC, and wouldn't want this game to drop because I can't find anything else that I like atm.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

It wouldn't work in a game like AoC with the present gear drop rates. Full loot requires proper resources and crafting system which support gear loss.

Yeah, it is FULL loot, except for the things the character is wearing, and most of the things he is carrying...  When a player dies, the game will generate ´random loot´ just like they are a monster.  Unless you are losing your most prized weapons and armor, it is not full loot.

In UO.. full loot meant you actually took the other people´s stuff..  In AOC, it appears you might not take anything actually from the other player, and if you do, it will only be garbage they don´t have equipped.

The biggest problem with a full loot system is that is shines a spotlight on class imbalances.  Dying because the devs didn´t balance the game is one thing, dying and losing all your crap because the devs didn´t balance the game is completely different.  Even if the devs do manage to balance classes perfectly, the average person who would play this type of system would NEVER believe they lost fairly, so players will always be angry at the devs for class balance issues.

They haven't decided anything yet and are going off player polls. Calm down.
