The nice thing about EVE is enough gamers play it that it doesn't matter if asshats /quit and go back to their themeparks. Let em rot there I say ;p

The real difference between vets and new players is the amount of different ships they can fly. But anyway, new players can't afford the bigger one the vets already have, so it doesn't really matter, right? =)

In my current situation, I'm using a Drake (Battlecruiser, need 2/3 training months)(45M isk) to solo Lv4 and 5 mission, while most of the vets in my corp use Dominix or Megathron (Battleship, 4/6 months)(100/130M isk)... Of course, i'm pretty active while playing (passive shield tanking + speed tanking) and they just sit there while watching drones do all the work, but it doesn't mean they're better than me. It's just that we don't use the same skills to do the same thing.

So, my final word is, don't listen to all the people crying that vets are always ahead of us, it's totally false, once you have played for 2/3 month your skills won't really matter anymore.

But, BE CAREFUL! Since vets have played longer, they know very well the game mechanics, and they will always have the tiny advantage that experience is. =)

LOL WUT!?!?! Passive shield Drakes are the easiest ships to fly in the game! You don't do anything other than push the shoot button when you have a reload cycle!  Speed tanking just means flying around, which is done automatically. BUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People pause their subscriptions with eve all the time, which is why its very easy to "catch up".

But not only that, there are ALWAYS new players, every time I re-sub and im in noob corp theres just hundreds of people asking questions.

So it doesnt matter that there are people more advanved than you.. because there are ALWAYS people less advanced too.  Which makes perfect sense for any mmo, I just dont get why people think its different with eve.

    Hee hee, funny stuff ^^

I guess Lysarion has never tried a drone boat. I would love to see him fly a Mega with drones in an L4 and see how far he gets just sitting there watching his drones go at it.

Playing MUDs and MMOs since 1994.

I  does have a Dominix, which is a much more valid choice than Magathron for afk missioning, since it has drone damage bonuses. (And i already have Gallente BattleShip V)

Usually i use my Domi, and it's pretty short to do  L4... But imho,  drake is funnier. This way, I can  fly around freely... While in a Domi, you just warp in, use a sniper railgun to aggro, then launch drones, wait  half an hour, and warp out...

I'm french, that's why I sometimes mis-use or mis-spell some words... Please don't blame me.

People cancelling their subs is a very untalked way of "catching up" in raw SP with older characters, not that you really need it but more SP is always good as it means more toys to play with.

Getting SP from day one is a little less painful nowadays with learning skills in the bin, just train cybernetics in the first week and get some +3 attribute implants and the SP soon start to roll in, you only need a lot of things to level 4 to begin with and you can get into a Stealth Bomber or a BC pretty quickly for pvp and be useful in low or nullsec in a few weeks and making ISK out there is much easier than grinding level 4 missions in empire.

    Currently playing:

EVE online (Ruining low sec one hotdrop at a time)

    Gravity Rush,
    Dishonoured: The Knife of Dunwall.

    (Waiting for) Metro: Last Light,
    Company of Heroes II.

Untalked way indeed,  I think mainly because its a reason that just doesnt occur to people!

Even Vets,  they will reply with stuff about specialising, which to me is nonsense! As soon as you understand the way skills work its natural to specialise.  So everyone specialises anyway and therefore makes the argument invalid.

The learning skills thing is also another thing which people forget.  New players in todays eve just dont understand that they pretty much have 2 maybe 3 months head start which players never had before.

With salvaging and PI and epic quests, exploration, FW, highly compative markets.. there are so many things which new players can do now which vets didnt have back in the day.

Even if you explain these things to them, they still dont REALLY get it, just like when grandad says "when I were a lad" the kid doesnt really understand how much better he has it because he hasnt experienced it, even in the face of strong logical reasoning they always think that they are hard done by.

There has never been a better time to be a new player in eve!

I have recently quit my sub after a year, had a nice pilot and specialised in missile boats, could make money easy by doing lvl4 missions but here was the kicker... could never find a decent corp to join.  Everytime I joined a corp for what they stood for they then changed direction and headed to null sec areas and weren't willing to teach me the ropes of fleet war fare etc.

As far as skills go, it really depends on what you want to do, industrial? mission running? pvp?  They all require total opposite in skills to learn, so if you want to learn them all it will take you a very very long time.  I went for the mission running route to make some isk early on and have to say it worked, the money poured in, but when I wanted to do pvp I didn't have the right skills to fit the right fittings onto my ship which left me at a disadavantage.

All in all, if you can last past the first month then you will enjoy the game as a whole, if you can find a really nice corp willing to help you and teach you then you will be hooked for life, sadly for me I couldn't find a decent corp in a year of playing the game that suited me.

This really is the crux of the game.

I started off in a corp mainly consisting of noobs I knew from a forum so none of us had much of a clue, so a few of us went on the Agony Unleashed course which I cannot reccomend enough, it teaches you the basics of being in a fleet and got me some of my first kills. We got war decced a couple of times and instead of hiding in station did the swarm them with cheap ships tactics. We died in droves but actually cost them far more than we lost because we'd occasionally take down one of their expensive T2 ships.

Later once I decided I wanted to PvP pretty much full time I joined the fleet war that was convenient to me and got some more organised fleet combat practice plus boosted my killboard stats.

Having done this I was vaguely competent; I understood RR from wormholes, could shoot the primary plus at the least attempt to hold a tackle. This enabled me to look for a corp in a reasonable null sec PvP alliance, I actually chose the first alliance based on the fact they didn't completely suck in the alliance tournament and that they lived in space that matched the damage types I was strong in ( Amarr so Stain ).

From that point on I have spent as much time as possible PvP'ing, only using PvE to generate isk to fund my PvP as efficently as possible. I had a blast PvP'ing with them for 8 months until their EU TZ died a death, but by then I had solid KB stats that showed I wasn't retarded and could pick and chose from a huge list of where to go next.

One thing I would say if you want to get into the better PvP corps is watch your ship fits. The first thing any corp considering taking you on will look at is your ship losses, if they look idiotic they won't want you in, on the other hand if they show a decent understanding of the game mechanics and fit well with the fights they were used for it's good evidence that you'll be an asset to them.

You mean, the Dominix is the *only* valid choice for afk missioning between it and a Mega.

If you like speed and drones, then an Ishtar is definitely it.

Edit - gah just erased my edit. Ah forget it.

     Thanks!

Don't fear Eve... she will treat you with respect if you do the same!

Yes, there are people in Eve Online who have been playing for years, but that doesn't mean you have to fear them.

    Yes, they have more skillpoints

Yes, they can fly big ships

But bigger is not always better... when you are small and mobile, they are big and slow (both in Ship's speed and the speed of the weapon systems).

A new player starting today can be effective in a couple months when it comes to flying frigates well. People seem to think just because you start with a frigate, they are crap...

    don't underestimate the frigate!

the game is good,....for a certain kind of person i think, better for those kinds of people who get a rise out of just reading a spread sheet - it's not for everone.

No. You don't need any spreadsheet to play... Worst troll ever... You can be a totally decent player without using a spreadsheet. You just need to be able to read carefully items descriptions, it's all that is required to be able to understand how to efficiently run a ship.

I have played EVE for four years and racked up thousands of pvp kills and I have never, ever used a spreadsheet.

    Currently playing:

    Gravity Rush,

The simple answer is that it is tough on new players.   Its pretty complex and you are at the mercy of the more experienced players.  However, it is a mountain you can climb if you get past those initial hours where everything appears wicked complicated and unmanageable.

I have been playing for about 3 weeks now. I thought I'd be useless for awhile. Until we had a civil war in my Corp (Traitors and spies in corp)

Thats when it happened. - I was mostly afk, sitting on voice comms listening to my corp leaders trying to figure out what to do. As I was playing battlefield on my 360. When the second in command of the corp and the guy who brought me in - A player that can fly battleships-  started shouting that he was under attack, I listened for a second and realized what was going on. He was alone, everyone else was in different systems looking for the #1 traitor in the corp... I was docked in a station in the same system ... In a Tristan. (A frigate, basically the smallest vessles that can be armed in the game).

So I put my 360 controller down and grabbed my keyboard, Figuring I'd probably die, I undocked and warped to him. In my mind, I'd rather fight and lose rather than sit idly by and let my corp mate die. As I was warping I hear "SOMEBODY HELP I'M AT 40% ARMOR!" ... on aproach I hear "20% armor!" I unwarp and hit my remote armor repair on him (You can heal other ships with this) until my capacitor is empty... I then wait til it charges and I web the traitor (web is like "Slow move" spells on other MMOs) Then I warp jam him (this prevents escape).

Still my corp co-leader was panicky on TS scared he was going to lose his ship, So I focused my full firepower of my little frigate (not much) on him(the traitor). To my surprize it actually hurt him lol... A few seconds later the traitor turned his fire on me. Dropped my shield to nothing in what seemed like an instant and dropped my armor to 90%, I hit my shield booster to recharge my shield... A few seconds later a large explosion... The traitor was dead.

Don't let anyone tell you, that you can't be usefull early on. I saved a player with far better equip from certain death, using a frigate you can get within a days time (maybe 2).

Even my other corp mates were surprized when they found out just what I had showed up and saved the day in. Eve is a harsh place, that isn't very forgiving. But, Its no less forgiving on a older player than it is a new one. Get in a good corp ASAP. And its a whole new game.

Took me a long time to find an MMO I liked, Eve is amazing; Give it a try. Fair warning tho, Eve is a love or hate it game. And as with any PvP orriented game there are some D-bags in it.

On a side note - if you go straight to low sec/null sec. You will have it alot harder than older more experienced players, Its like going straight to a "High level zone" in other MMOs.

Edit - As for just general learning of the game, Yeah its alot harder than most other MMOs, Since most other MMOs don't actually take much learning.
