You could have the best gear in game, but if you can't aim, block or dodge...

I do agree there is not enough skill involved in most MMORPGs right now but the way Terra (and from what i did read GW2) is going is the wrong way to handle it.

People have to understand what RPG means its not about what u can do its about what your character can do.

If i want my character to evade a lot i have to skill it towards that or if i want it to be a wall i do have to skill in another way.

If i now add evasion as an action i can trigger by hitting 1 key (btw hardly can call that skill in my opinion) i do destroy part of the RPG of the game.

Also if i play a tank (non eva) why should i have to evade...that's not what my class is meant for so hell now i do have to evade all the time to even stand a chance...not cool.If i do add the evade i also need to add active blocking and lots of other things.

To ensure u still play an RPG u would have to go way farther than just add 1 button to evade u would have to take the character attributes into account when hitting the evade button if i skilled my character for evading i should have an advantage than the Tank or Mages.

Like i said i do love my Beat am Up games but i play an MMORPG for the RPG part.

What about Action-RPGs? They are still RPGs just with a different style of game play and platforming mixed in.

The environments and monsters look great in TERA imo. However, a lot of the characters are just...ugh. Again though, it's all personal preference.

I think you should stop acting like you know the difference between eastern and western art styles because it is obvious from this post that you don't.

Maybe, although the female casting animations in TERA are just horrid.

    b. Female characters look flat? Your mama kmow you are checkin out the...topside of females in games? You should be ashamed to even mentioning such a concept. Besides, look closer at some NA games son, but do not tell mom.

Oh my god whatever happened to people's tastes? I havent seen a better caasting animation than the high elf sorcerers in Tera in my 10 year gaming experience.

What this guy has stated is that you never run out of quests. Grinding and questing are no different, but most of us prefer questing. He also mentioned that gold was not a problem for purchasing skills based on your level! THAT IS AMAZING! We have that in Western games, but it was never in Eastern games and the reason why they failed so hard here.

The 3.5 million who play Aion worldwide would likely disagree with you and your ad-hominem attacks, but don't let statistics get in the way of your paid advertisement.

It should also be noted that it was Eastern MMOs that capitalized, and continue to capitalize, on the "not enough quests, better kill the same mob thousands of times to level, or buy cash shop double exp potions" aspect. Not the West.

I just hope I have fun playing it.

Rift was fun, but it seems a little chaotic at times.

I want to be immersed in a fantasy world with adventure, and danger. Im not sure I want to be in a fantasy afghanistan where war is full bore.

Im hoping Tera is a little more like that.

To the caterpillar it is the end of the world, to the master, it is a butterfly.

    So you like porn too?

Ye i like girls. And i am much happier watching my female character's ass while playing for 6 hour every day, than a fat little dwarf.

You get off on watching pixels eh? To each their own I guess.

So you like staring at your male orc's ass everyday? To each their own i guess.

Generally, when I play MMORPG's (notice the RPG part) I tend to pick a character race/sex that matches who I would want to be in the game world.  I am not saying I am a roleplayer, but when I think about myself in the game world, I don't really see myself being a chick.  If you like being a chick in games, more power to ya.

At 20 you could barely afford the first D grade (20-40) item after selling everything you had that was no-grade. These things have been fixed in L2 now, with shadow/common items, Vitality (1.5-3x xp), and reduced xp needed for levels. They are even reducing exp needed again in 1 week. L2 is great now, and if TERA is anything like L2 is now it will have an AMAZING launch. L2 has some of the best PvP I've ever seen, it just takes like 2 years of grinding to experience any of it.

Those were the things about L2 that I liked.

I prefer L2 at launch up through C2.

Seriously, I don't play MMORPGs to compete.  I play them to explore worlds and someone's imagination.  If a little PVP happens, great, but I sure as hell don't come to an MMORPG expecting my "skill"s to mean anything, I go to Call of Duty or similar games for that type of mindless gameplay. (Don't get me wrong, mindless gameplay has it's place too, usually to help me blow off a ton of stress, bout to go headshot someone right now in Blacks Ops :D)

You are probably right. I still think the animations are silly, not to mention the over gratuitous amount of panty shots.

Looks like gear for the win to me, not skill.  Gear = grind.  The OP reads completely wrong to me, but have fun with the chesty females in bikinis.  Am I getting trolled?  Lol.

Glyphs & Crystals should not be considered gear.  Crystals can be added and removed on the fly depending on what your fighting,  Glyphs on the other hand are skill enhancements and can be changed out by an NPC.

You are correct in that gear will play a role but a players skill in controlling his character will be the most decideing factor.

Leveling speed seems too fast as it is now to me, but how people define "grind" is on a person to person bases.

~how well Tera does in the west is yet to be determined~

Woopdie doo,so you like to kill mobs and players thanks to stats, instead of skill?

    To each their own,i guess.

That is your opinion, there are a lot of people begging for a game where skill matters,if you are skilled, you can even reduce your downtime in PVE,instead of grinding money and buying pots.

MMORPGS have PVP,and the PVP in this game will be skill based, this alone will attract a lot of pvp players bored of the same old same old gear based 111211 games.

And here is a quote from someone who is playing the game now.

In level 20 we decided to try doing the first instance together (Shangri-la, lvl 20+) , but we couldn’t find anyone to do it with so we decided to try doing it our self. At the first few mobs we failed miserable, we decided to not give up until we finished a couple of quests inside so we continued trying, as we tried we developed various strategies, and it suddenly became easier, and we actually made it to the last boss in the instance. Don’t get me wrong, we died countless times and it took us almost 6 hours to get to that point, and this is an instance which takes about half an hour with full party:P But that we actually made it that far, was something I hadn’t seen in another game before. Let’s take RIFT beta for example, we tried the same thing there, but it was impossible. The thing with TERA is it's based on skill alone, not stats and armor, which makes it really unique in my point of view.

This is why Skill >>>>>>> gear/time.

How long we've been asking for a challenging game? well, this is it.

Because Korea has made games oriented towards Korean gamers before, and they're a more immature gaming industry than us, therefore simply by virtue of being Korean, it will fail.

Except... that's the exact same sorts of thing people in the US used to say about Japanese cars.  Hmmm.
