This week I finally had some time so I played AOC on a trial account before remembering I had bought the game like a year ago. I should hit 20 soon but I'm not sure if i should continue playing as I've heard Tortage really is the best part of the game and I personally wasn't very impressed with it. Nothing particularly wrong with the game but the fact is it felt like your regular linear quest progression game which I on the other hand am not too fond of anymore. The first few levels I quite enjoyed myself specially with the destiny quest but then going back to multiplayer it was your usual grab 20 quests and go do them, level in the process and grab more quests.

So my question is, is the game going to be pretty much like that till cap? Also is the cap just raids and your usual stuff or is there anything interesting besides the gear treadmill and the apparently very grind based faction stuff?

Mainly it comes down to, what differentiates AOC from the rest of the other similar games beside the setting and combat which again I wasn't very impressed with...its just like spamming skills with a combo system.

I apologize if this comes off as a troll post, but really its just what I thought of the game from what the first 20 levels or so.

atm im not currently playing AoC and havent played for about 6 months.

I always played the game because i love the combat system. (An AoE based system.) And ive love the feat trees. The leveling content is your standard far, but that said u get to see some nice fistas and even fight some interesting creatures. The only problem is that finding a group for the actual multiplayer content (at least when i tried to play the game again a while back) is virtualy non existent.  Since all of the better gear and some interesting things are group content that really limits you.

Now ive not played ROFTG (the expansion pack) so im not sure if they have added a great deal of solo content to endgame Pve. Imput here would be much apreciated as that would drasticaly improve the game.

As for PvP, its harsh if your on a pvp server so i recomend a Pve one. And even then it lacks something like random arenas.. expect guild parties to roll through pvp with their max PVP gear. That said in a fair fight the combat is great, and if sieges could happen more often (maybe like a random battleground) the game would be dramaticaly improved.

The verdict: ATM it's a cheap buy so you might aswell try 30 days above 20. Personaly i hated tortage, my least liked part of the game. Im considering giving it another go (but im just bored waiting for GW2).

Tortage is not the best part of the game, though it is a nice start, but now I try to rush a new character through Tortage as fast as possible.

I play on the Set server, and spend most of my time with end game content like raids and such, but I always enjoyed levelling my characters to end game.

I would recommend playing for a month (beyond Tortage) and seeing if you like it. Set is a fairly busy server, and there are both new players and helpful guilds to play with.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.

Some once said there was two types of AoC players (when talking about Tortage) those who enjoyed Tortage to the MAXIMUM, but was dissapointed with the world beyond. The other type was the one who felt trapped in Tortage, and could not wait to be let loose in the rest of the world.

Alot has changed since 2008, but its not so visible the first 20-23 lvls of the game (except the performance improvement & DX10 updates I guess)The changes done in 2008-2009 is most visible in lvl 20-79 and most changes done in 2009-now is visible from 80+

It seems as you need to get out of Tortage to take on the real game, not the Single player RPG version of it.

Edit: Also, try to avoid the Stygia lvl 20+ area at first, as the two other places are much nicer (IMO) and you will need to return to Stygia for lvl 30-40 area as some dungeons down there are just sweet.

Thanks a lot for the feedback people, I played on a friends account which was maxed to see end game and stuff for the day and had some fun although i did kind of suck lol. But ye, I really want to like this game but it just doesn't tick with me as it seems I'm bored of this type of gameplay now. Well it was fun while it lasted!
