Back when Aion came out I gave it a try. It was interesting. The art was beautiful and it held me for the first free month. But what threw me was that a PVE only game ended up becoming mostly a PVP only game the higher you leveled. It was odd.
Warhammer. Yeah when you create your chaarcter you are pretty much in a PVE situation for a couple levels, then you can do some pvp scenarios sone after then world pvp.
In WoW, you start with PVE then you can do Battlegrounds at level 10.
Wouldn't it be cool if upon character creation, you were immediately thrown into a pvp situation with other level 1 players? A starting area, right on the border with the other faction, thrown into war immediately. Your first quest? Go kill 5 players from the other faction.

You can pretty much go to an rvr lake and join scenario's from lvl 1 so no pve needed.
And Aion was never an pve only mmo.
My 1st point of XP from WAR came from a scenario.
In WAR you can do scenarios from level 1, so you can do it instantly from character creation (almost). But if you mean open world PvP with related quests?
Yeah that would be pretty cool. I usually dislike PvE so I would love to play a game where I only need to do PvE for boss raids and such.
My gaming blog
The problem with that is people want to make the most money they can. Not saying it's a bad thing, just is what it is. There are less people willing to do PvP than PvE, which means less monety from subs or whatever.
I think some of you missed my point. I am not talking about joining a scenario.
I am talking about being thrown into world pvp immediately.
I heard FPS game gives you that... if all you want is to fight people from the get go mmorpg arent really for that. You are supposed to play a role there, you got to learn what your char can do, the story of the world around you. You dont send children to wars, you train em till they are ready to go fight.
QFE.
I recommend Unreal Tournament. Almost unlimited kinds of gameplay and no monthly fee. Good times, good times.
Earthrise pretty much did this when they gave out all their beta keys. All players started in a training area before they got to choose sides. The mobs you were supposed to kill for training didn't spawn fast enough and players started killing each other, then killing each other for revenge, then killing each other because they were killing the mobs needed for the starter quest.
It was actually kind of fun.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
The issue is vertical progression (which is inherent to most MMORPGs). Those first 10 levels are so significant (because they're used to introduce several key skills) that there's no way you could involve those characters in PVP without it being completely lopsided, frustrating, and just plain not fun for most players.
If we're talking a game with only lateral progression, like Planetside, then it's a little more feasible. GW1 is very close too (it's not hard to imagine players starting at level 20, since it's so fast to reach anyway)
"What is truly revealing is his implication that believing something to be true is the same as it being true. [continue]" -John Oliver
But you can start the game with a lvl20 PvP character.
I skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been -Wayne Gretzky
If you select a pvp character at creation in GW you will already be level 20.
That's a terrible idea. Unless the game is as simple as just a mindless clickfest it might be ok, but most games are complex enough that you need to learn the basics through a tutorial. Not a good idea spawning a lvl 1 player in a combat arena while he doesn't even know how to move around or properly use skills or how the whole combat system works.
Let's not forget that level 1 characters tend to have a basic attack and 1-2 very weak skills. Any such fight would be most lilkely determined by who fired first and thus won the HP attrition war that followed.
Don't games like darkfall and Mortal online do this? you go out and your immediately PvPable?
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.
Is possible in twitch based MMOS's(PlanetSide), not really typical MMO's so much(pretty much everything else).

Future Crew - High Council. Planetside 1 & 2.
I love PvP in my MMO, and would try one that sends you straight to the fight (pvp), mostly because it would be something different.
Go kill 10 rats, now go kill 5 harder rats, and now go kill the "boss" rat"... ok, you're ready for PvP... yea....
Saying MMO's arent really for that?
Your role is to defend your faction, homeland, wife and kids from the impending forces, go on and fight, you're under attack!
You learn what your character can do, right quick.. Do you as a level one character need to fight (pvp) against level 40? Nope, contrary to popular belief, thats not PvP, thats getting one shotted. Warhammer did it pretty well with the "boost" they gave lower levels in scenerios, perhaps a dev could develop that some?
The story of your world? I don't understand how that can be problem wether its PvE or PvP? Unless the developers are poor story tellers.
You don't send children to wars? All righty, but who's going to kill those never endless dern rats??
I would also love fighting other players with auto attack (Even better auto attack as a caster) and one ability. I'm charging up my 3 second cast arcane bomb that does 4 damage. WATCH OUT.
Or, you can give the players more than a 3 second cast spell, and an auto-attack at level one?
crazy, i know.....
WAR is the only one I know of that has open world PvP accessible right away. From time to time I will install the WAR trial and play a few toons up to level 10 just for the fun PvP. You don't need 20 spells or abilities to have fun at low levels. In most cases, the more abilities you get, just means thats more that you won't use.
The problem with most other games is they will design a decent PvE game then tack on some PvP rules late in development and call it good.
