Server Status: Unknown

BlackndBlacknd Member Posts: 600

Wanted to give EVE a try, but I ran into a snag. I first started it and downloaded the patch, updating the client to the latest confirmed patch. Next to my login input box, I see Server: Tranquility, Status: Unknown.

"Could not connect to the specified address. Odds are that you have not established an internet connection, the server isn't running, or the server address or port number was wrong."

Tried opening the ports through my router, failed. Tried changing to the alternate provided port, failed. I've tried to ping the server, failed. Also followed every step on EVE's troubleshooting page for server connection problems, and none of them helped.

The only conclusion I seem to be able to draw, which was also echoed on that page, is that "It's not CCP's problem."

Any help?

.. But in a good way.

    Start, run..
    cmd

    tracert 87.237.38.200
    Should look something like this:

Tracing route to 87.237.38.200 over a maximum of 30 hops

    1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms keksbox.local [192.168.0.1]
    2 48 ms 41 ms 41 ms 217.0.116.102
    3 44 ms 44 ms 43 ms 217.0.71.26
    4 42 ms 44 ms 43 ms 62.154.33.34
    5 43 ms 44 ms 43 ms 80.156.161.122
    6 44 ms 45 ms 42 ms hbg-bb1-link.telia.net [80.91.246.6]
    7 65 ms 64 ms 66 ms ldn-bb1-link.telia.net [80.91.254.217]
    8 64 ms 64 ms 65 ms ldn-b3-link.telia.net [80.91.251.237]
    9 64 ms 64 ms 65 ms eveonline-ic-138015-ldn-b3.c.telia.net [213.248.
    83.198]
    10 61 ms 60 ms 61 ms 87.237.36.248
    11 61 ms 60 ms 60 ms 87.237.38.200

    Trace complete.

See where the packets fail. If it's very early, odds are you have a "personal firewall" (imagine a few more sarcasm quotes) blocking it. Nuke it from orbit.

Use a second computer to verify that it's not your own pc causing problems.

If the packets are dropped after they have passed your router, bitch at your isp, since it'll be in their domain.

Tracing route to 87.237.38.200 over a maximum of 30 hops

      1  General failure.

    Trace complete.

No personal firewalls have been installed, the built in one has been disabled. As of yet, this is the only program I have that gives me problems. P2P programs included.

EDIT: Nevermind. I found the culprit. Thanks for your help.

Now I am curious, what WAS the culprit?

    Antivirus Software?

I'm french, that's why I sometimes mis-use or mis-spell some words... Please don't blame me.
(but feel free to explain my error if you want =)
