I have only played the game for about a week so I have only seen what the first several levels has to offer. I also played on the Good side.

Graphics

I think the game has very nice graphics.. They arent super duper terrific but the lighting , shadows and water are all very good which makes the game look nice even without high poly count or high res textures.

The character models are average but acceptable. For the most part the mob models and such all look good to me. ( That Earth creature in the tutorial was pretty sweet looking )

Armor and Weapon models are also average so far.

Animations

Below average to Average.. Not great but not terrible. The player attack animations seem to be erratic with no real fluidity to them. They look ok but weird at the same time.

Some crits have missing attack animations.

At least this game has an animation for Bow strings.. Most do not.

Sound

Music is good but is much louder than other game sounds.

The combat sound effects are much to low and lack the impact of a battle.

No sound for footsteps , harvesting or crafting. Also no sound for critical hits , blocking..ect.

Crafting

I dont know what to say about crafting.. Nodes are static and there arent many of them and you are limited to 4 of 6 on the f2p server ( Jewel Crafting and something else arent on the f2p ).. This entire area feels like its incomplete.

Gameplay

Plenty of quests to do right off the bat but the quest dialogue seems to suffer from bad translations. Often times you wont even get a clue as to where to look for something even on something as simple as a delievery quest where they wont even tell you what village the person is at. But there is a button in the quest log that will mark the place on your map ( sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt ) .Ran into 2 broken quests ( Good side ) both of which were escort quests where the pereson I need to escort would not move. The first area has quests all the way up to level 20.

Grinding mobs really isnt an option for exp gain because they give practically nothing.. Its quest , quest , quest which doesnt sit well with me for a sandbox game. I dont mind quests but killing mobs should be a viable optioon too.

I really like the combat and its my prefered style because I liked to get to watch my character fight instead of having to focus on the hotbar constantly.  Its kinda slow paced but it seems to fit the game really well.

The skill and ability system is terrific. My character had a DoT from the Necro Tree , Fear from the Necro Tree , A melee Stun from the Healer Tree and HP Buff from the Healer Tree .. Mix and match anything you want. Really Great. And they all improve every time you gain stat points. The abilities list which stats they use so you know how to set up a build more easily.

However with so many abilities some of them are bound to be useless. Like the HP Buff from the Healer Tree ( level 6 ability ).. It increases your groups health by 40 for 15 seconds.. Worthless. Even at higher levels I dont see this ability being useful.

Housing

It seems that there is a housing sytem in place but I know nothing about it.. Just that there is a merchant that sells decorations.

PvP

Never was able to do PvP due to the lack of player base. It is a 2 faction system and there is a tower system in place so there are areas to fight over it seems.

Item Shop for F2P

The game uses a currency called Kun which you buy with real cash ( of course ) and get to use in game to buy items.. every kind of item - Armor , Weapons , Potions ( which are Kun only on f2p ) .. Everything. While there is no restriction on what areas are available to f2p players ( 1 Epic dungeon perhaps which you pay for ) .. the selling of equipment is just a huge no no IMO and most likely will keep this game from taking off. Even BAGSPACE requires real money. UUGH!

All in All

Its a good game with potential but the lack of population and the selling of equipment will keep this game in the cellar.

Gameplay wise I think it is better than DF / MO and plenty other games out there.

I'm playing this game for a while, and I'm almost agree with your review except for one thing...you can play on the F2P server even without buying the equipment into the item shop. That equipment is the best you can get, but you can get a good equipment even from quest rewards and mobs. Crafting has some issues but devs said that they are working hard on it and soon it will be good and functional. Housing is implemented, you have to go to your faction town and look around for buying an house (you can click on the doorbell to see if the house is free and how much it costs); then you can visit a merchant to buy some decorations.

I have to say the red marked part is blasphemi, ever tried it. Its simply awesome:D

I guess the one thing a game needs to FLY is advertisement, i mean look at that crappy game called wow. It still soars above all others just due to the fact that they brainwash teenagers even in front of their tv's with their commercials.

If you want something to live, advertise for it. Darkfall is the best!

The cash shop in this game makes the SOE cash shop look like a free give away.

You just cant handle being pk'ed in the starting zones. Those that get past that area stays in the game for a LONG time:D
