WIth the recent interview im worried about the direction this game is headed I agree the game is in need of change. However, I worry that they will just take bits and peices of wow and try to make a quick fix which I really dont think would fix the problem most of FFXIV players are people looking for an alternative to wow and the recent interview did worry me. I do think the battle system needs a major update because I think this game is suffering from a similar problem that resident evil 5 was. Resident Evil 4 much like FFXI was a great game but gamers tastes changed and they wanted faster gameplay so Resident evil 5 didnt do nearly as well and FFXIV tanked not just because of the combat system but I think the overall lack of direction in the game is what is currently really hurting it. They took a chance with the leve quest system and After talking to quite a few players in game it seems most people agree its a failed system. So basically what im getting at is the combat system needs a major overhaul and there needs to be some direction.

I didnt much like the tone of the interview either. It sounds like they are going to pull an NGE on us and that is a 2 edged sword. People there now will leave in exchange for people that might come to the game.

The basic game is fine. It needs more diversity in Mobs, add some more Levequests and either put in an Auction house or reduce the insane 4% buyback the AI has. Actually, do both.

What is wierd for me is, everything others hate about this game is what I love about it. I'm noob, I dont have 5 years of documentation at my fingertips. The game is.. hard. I started as a Conjurer and I think of myself as a Conjurer. Both being mistakes. Conj are low health/ Armor and at rank 13 I am finding greens and blues kicking my ass. I need to shake the idea that I am a conjurer. In this game, you are really not any specific class and there is a better way to sequence your ranking than Conj first. These are things that everyone will know in 5 years. Nobody is figuring them out yet. Its great, you have to learn as you go.

I really just want them to add things to do other than grind those dumb leve’s and add an auction system.

I don’t mind the combat system and probably would like it if the game kept me more entertained.

They need to add in more quest hubs and generic quests that are not leve’s, I also find the maps to be rather boring and drab, there is not any distinctive landmarks that makes you feel connected to the world.

I really want to like ffxiv, the overall feeling of the game world draws me in but it’s almost an unplayable game as it is now. However, I don’t want a WoW influence or an generic asian F2P influence.

WoW wouldnt be mentioned by FF14 people any more than it would by LotRO or EQ people. Its the game design result in hopes of getting WoW numbers that is being pointed out.

MMOs I have said it before, will say it again suffer from incestial subscriptions. The MMO that brings in 2 million people who dont now play MMOs will be the great success. Not the one that borrows from the current number of people playing them. A number that is on the decline in terms of subscribed MMO players.

If 2 million people are introduced to MMOs in the FF14 system, all the other ones will feel foreign and 'wrong'. To the people used to WoW/ EQ this system seems clunky and wrong. FF14 needs new blood, not grizzled MMO people like me. I dont know how they get that. Movie? Dunno.

People are just taking pieces of the interview and assuming they were talking about WoW and I must admit some of the things they said made me think of Wow.

One of the things going for ffxiv is the feeling that you’re not in WoW or any typical mmo that we know today and it would be a shame to make it more mainstream feeling and not find a way to do the things the community wants while keeping their original vision.

Well I was happy with question that asked what upcoming MMO we plan to play. This tells me they're aware of the competition. Square Enix knows what Guild Wars 2, SWTOR are brning to the table and so FFXIV needs to bring more.

This game needs to complete. Crafting options to wait that punish you for doing it, forcing you to mash enter rather than let the wait bar drop and get better quality. Quality that doesnt matter. A 25 quality belt is identical to a 300 quality belt. These are symptoms of content or features to be added. Because they do nothing now, they make it seem cluttered. All the bushes in the wild, doing nothing. Only ones 5 minutes from camps are used now. Things they need to add. The actual game is good. It was launched too early.

The FF14 hackers are good programmers. They did a good job. The team needs artists now, to make unique mobs, more items, more .. stuff. And I want a bloody skirt for my midlander female char. Who thought girls shouldnt have skirts and dresses? Yeesh.

I've found that the more quality you have on a local guildleve item the better your sp/exp gain and better rewards from the turn in.

Keep in mind, though.. Even when there is 5 years of documentation 'at your fingertips", you don't have to use it. You can still learn everything on your own.

'course, you'll have people telling you you're playing wrong, and telling you how you're "supposed to be..." playing the game. What classes you're supposed to level, what skills you're supposed to have queued up, what gear you're supposed to be using.. and so on. Well, they were already doing that in Beta... so I guess nothing new there. Many people just love telling others how to play MMOs.

Regardless, so long as you can ignore everyone else trying to tell you how to play the game the way the latest/greatest guides and templates say  you're "supposed to", there's no reason you can't still play the game "as a newbie" as you are now.

I am also worried about the direction the game is heading.  I enjoy the game, it just needs more content and motivation to level.  My highest job is a 24 archer, and I really enjoy playing it, but I have no motivation at all to log on and play.  RIght now I only log on every few days for about an hour or two to blow threw some leves.  And I only really do that just to build up my character and wealth a little bit because I am really hoping that the game does get better eventually.

So I guess I just really want them to do something that motivates me to get on and play more.  I don't really want them to overhal the entire system, which is the direction I get from the interview.

    My opinion matters to everyone...

I have no trouble ignoring l33t fanbois. Of course when they start forcing group to do the latest 'epic' quest that can only be hard by building a bigger blob then you get the people telling you that isnt a conjuror shirt or thats a shitty wand, we dont group with noobs, blah, blah, blah and it all goes south. It wouldnt be so bad but they soon build all the PvE assuming you have pro gear that you got doing group forced raids so you cant even play casual  because most of the PvE is out of your reach.

I wont last long enough to see that. FF14 could be the best game going, I would fall off the radar before that level of predictability hit it. The thing with this game is, they didnt mess it up on the mechanical level. Its a fine game. It just needs what everyone is screaming for. More content. More recipes, more items, more mobs, more interaction.

Passed so many weeks since I posted in this site heh.

As you can see from my sig I'm playing ffxiv so I'm not a newbie or troll.

One of my biggest concerns apart of the lack of content is that after NOV patch parties got destroyed, you will rarely see any grinding group ever now because it's NOT a good way to lvl.

Before november patch you could find many groups that fought tough mobs in large groups in a set lvl gap of 5+- now after patch? Groups to do the leve quests BUT you MUST group because doing leves on your own you will barely see on 200 sp per mob (Exaggerating on 200 it's more near 100). In a group doing leves you get the possibility to link x leve with others so everyone gets more exp/sp from the monsters needed for it.

    I wouldn't mind this if:

    1) Leves are random so your not always sure on getting same leves as others hence why you need large groups.

    2) Doing always same leve day after day after day because I'm not going to lie there's not much leves in every camps you'll do them all in a matter of days if you group.

    3) Even in large groups while sp is better if your lucky with links the sp is not that great either.

At 41 to 42 you need 76k to lvl now a leve quest which is linked by 5-7 people, having guardian buff and depending on what monsters too you will say get on 300-500 sp per monster which you may think it's fine (Nov patch raised max sp you can get from a mob maximum of 1k sp which I never even seen.... Highest I saw was on 550 sp)

To add to this 95% of the leves have at max 8 monsters in total to kill... 8!!!! You will barely ever exceed this number apart of necrologos leves with 8 leves limit per 36 hours.

It takes me 2-3 days just to make 1 level and to finish all leves of say 10 people in a group + behests it can take you on 4-5 hours, yes that much.

Now some may think grinding mobs is more viable and true it is BUT would you prefer fighting a weak mob 1 after 1 which gives you around 50 sp and dies in 3 hits grinding it for a whole day to level? You need 76k to lvl at 41 calculate it if you want I surely won't.

You may say I'm near cap and last lvls should be slow and I may agree with you if I wouldn't have a dozen more classes to lvl after my current one to 50!

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now before anyone says go back to wow I don't mind the lvling speed hell I didn't get bothered of aion's one but ffxiv doesn't try to hide it in any simplest way it's always in your face.

Even a simple storyline it barely has anything just bunch of cutscenes move in x, y and z zones and your done no action just lots of minutes walking.

Now they added NMs which apart of jap linkshells in the server I am very few have enough people to fight them which is sad. Still from what I'm hearing they don't require any special strategy which is already worrying me since nms in ffxiv are kinda the bosses of the game.

They have a lot of things to fix and next patch if there will be one this month (Hope yes) is my last chance in them making something good to the game.

I don't have any other mmo to play nothing that is currently out interests me and guild wars 2 is too far away so I'm sticking it out (And to remove jade dynasty from my top hours in xfire xD)

Feel free to flame me or call me troll if you want this is my observation from 2 months or more playing.

Very good post BloodAxes. I think you hit quite a few concerns that a good majority of the player base has already felt and gone through. People with multiple level 40 jobs and those that have hit 50 have said pretty much what you wrote and then some. I don’t think anyone would call you a troll or tell you to go back to some other game for this post. The only thing I would say is that you are going to need wait a whole lot more than a month or two for some of these changes to take place. With the restructured team and the recent poll they just gave out to the players, I honestly can tell you it may take anywhere from 6-12 months to see some or most of those ideas implemented. And hopefully changes that the community will enjoy.

*Gets Pitchfork and Torch and runs to BloodAxes screaming: Go back to Jade Dynasty!*

No I’m only kidding I wouldn’t do that in real life.

OMG, you really do exist.  Here I was playing all these games, and in every game, instead of just using the same model as male characters, they insist on making everything with skirts.  Plate mail skirt, leather skirt, ringmail skirt.  I play a burglar, and one of the epic sets was an ankle length leather skirt.  I am sure she can be real sneaky like that.  And worse if they do the half route make the skirts look chaps.

I'm always wondering why they insist on making female characters wear skirts, whether it be heavy metal or animal skins.  And now I know why because people like you do exist.

So FFXIV doesn't have skirts?  Now you can feel my pain.

Video games in thier enfancy had to put girls in Skirts because the graphics were so shitty a skirt and square chest lumps were all we had to define gender. In the age of FF14 and 2011, females are distinct. Having skirts simply lets us define our individual avatars so my midgar female doesnt look like everyone elses midgar female.

Left up to me, we could make distinct clothes from beads on a shirt to collar patch color. I know that is bandwidth intensive but games like FF14 that dont rely alot on large groups its an option that can entertain.

The biggest problem right now by far is the complete and utter lack of content. Most of the other problems in the game can be overlooked, but you have to have something to do.
