As a person who has played WoW only because it is the only thing out there at the present that my husband and I can play together until TOR and GW2 come out, I was shocked to find myself enjoying the game after the world changed.
Unlike the OP, most of our characters are on the Alliance side, but I think the changes for the better are worldwide. There are several things that have made my frown turn upside down.
1. The graphics are now bearable! YAY! Stormwind looks NICE! The trees look better! Cobblestones look like cobblestones!
Gnomes can get lost in the weeds when they get outside of town! Even Darkshore and Redridge (the backside of the world) look better.
2. There is STORY everywhere! Even Guard Parker in Redridge has married Darcy (guess all those pack lunches worked). This is just a silly example of how existing characters' storylines have been worked into new quests. All the starter areas have been reworked and tightened into meaningful storylines that are FUN to do. Just try the bravo squad quests in Redridge for example, or escaping the dwarf starter valley when an avalanche closes it in.
3. The flight points! Allll the tedium ad nauseum of slogging everywhere is taken away with the myriad of flight points that have been added. I think this plays a big part in the reduction in the time it takes to level up now. No more HOURS spent going back and forth!
(I guess I should add my humble opinion on length of leveling time: I do not believe one must "pay one's dues" in tedious grinding. That smacks of lazy game development. If a developer forces me to take a long time to level by doing endless grinding, it is because he is not creative enough or industrious enough to give me something interesting to do.)
4. The quests make sense and add to the storyline. There are no "kill five rats" unless the rats are spreading plague. What you are asked to do is meaningful.
5. The quests are organized so that you spend your time efficiently and are able to explore the area in which you find yourself fully. By the time I finished questing in Loch Modan, for example, I had covered every nook and cranny of the place. I knew where to find everything. I think this will be especially helpful for new players.
Just my opinion--but the changes to the game are gonna make my wait for TOR and GW2 a LOT easier
Could they make this game any easier???? FFS way to kill any sense of accomplishment or challenge while leveling
The shattering actually re-added 'red' mobs back into the human starting area (Northshire).

I've just been lured back by some friends pre-Cata, and I must admit I really like the changes. WoW was never that difficult (although a basic competency was required at end game) and after a year out I can see how it has become a lot easier.
For me, at least, that's not an issue. After a long day at work I find it very relaxing to quest and run some dungeons with my friends at a nice, easy pace. Will it keep me playing again for the long run? Probably not, but I'll have at least a few months fun out of Cata, so I'll get my money's worth.
Like everything else, it's different strokes for different folks. I can totally understand why some people don't like it, but sometimes it seems that those people can't, or won't, understand why others do like it.
I don´t know. I can´t believe I am burnt out that much. Played WoW for about 6 months at release and revisited it 3-4 times for 1-2 weeks.
You get mostly 2-3 quests at once for an area: 1. Kill x mobs 2. collect items near these mobs 3. kill a named mob near these mobs
Often chained with more quests kill x. There are of course a few different quests, but basically before the shattering it was centaurs where you had to burn some battle plans, now it is NPCs from an Alliance faction. Before Day X a lone hunter sent you to kill some Razormanes, now it is an orc (both in Durotar). Azshara is a bit different, since it once was a Level 50+ zone, now 10-20. You do tons of silly things for the goblins there. I am half done there and got my 100-quests-achievement and level 20. Some quests turned to grey - I think these were some early connection quest in Barrens. I had some 7-days-trial active on my old account, so I can play for free currently. I just had to download the client 4.0.0. Go to the website and check your account, it may be a good time to see if you like the changes, before you pay.
" No more aggro from mobs was a big change, so everything is friendly yellow. You can run around and kill the monsters you want in order to finish your quests. "
This was in the game long before the mentioned patch
Gotta admit I quit reading after that because obviously, the author has no idea of what changes came about as part of this patch.
I was about to say the same thing lol he couldn't be more wrong about the aggro.
I'm assuming he means the newbie experience? Although, mobs up to lvl 6-ish have always been yellow in starting areas.
The last is not true. The mobs starting at either 3rd or 4th were originally aggro. Using the human starting area for example, the first kobolds were yellow but then next tier were red when the game was first released.
It never surprises me when a WoW article comes out and the same old trolls come out of the woodwork to denounce the game. Of course you don't like the changes, you're heavily biased to not like the game before you even log in. I don't understand why some people can't accept the fact that the game isn't for them. Just like Eve isn't for everyone.
Everyone is so angry and bitter. Nothing better to do than the troll up a thread about a game they don't care a damn about in the first place.
Let me start by saying that i have 4 80's all leveled before the shattering and i was bored to tears with the game. I started a new character last night to see what has changed with the old world and i have to say that i am pleasantly suprised. The quests the flow of quests and how they managed to change the world but still have all the familiar faces there was really nice. The game feels fun again and having several options for leveling is really nice, if i get sick of quests i can hop in a BG or run a dungeon, for the most part i really like the new quests and how they play out it gives the old world a fresh start and its a refreshing change from the same old crap that it use to be. The phasing is cool too as you finish quest lines it gives the illusion of the world changing, people that died stay dead things you effect stay that way at least to your perception I thin its a positive step changing the world how they did and i think that the changes were positive ones.
I have to totaly agree with Mr. Fuller. Just for kicks I thought I would try out the new Troll starting area, as it was one of the most boring and tedious startups I encountered in "The Good Old Days" (I was waterlogged from swimming back and forth from the islands). All I can say is "WoW". I mean it was fun! By the time I was level 6 or 7 (and in razor hill already) I had done some really fun stuff. I think the hardest quest on the Island was catching "Speedy" and then trying to find the raptor pen. It was a challenging quest in a whole new way. Then there was the one where I helped the Troll Boss (Zul Jin ?) kill the evil queen naga (an elite with hit points in the 100,000's range), and really felt like I was a contributing part of the fight. And so far my troll warlock (Warke) has not had to kill a single boar. (Though I did to test out my skinning skill ha ha).
I got tired of playing the same old game when all the hype about Warhammer Online was going on and played it for a while. It was never really a lot of fun. I have to thank Blizzard and their devotion to making games for the non L33T players like me (although WoW has some really hard stuff in there as well) to give me somehing really fun and interesting to play (an oasis if you will) in this MMO wasteland we live in. And no I do not work for Blizz, but wish I was near so I could give 'em all a big hug. LOL
"I like the idea of an Orc Mage even though I have always felt that Horde should have had Warlocks and Alliance should have had Mages from the beginning, the combination is fun to play and the new Mage Armor looks awesome with the skull hood, so I am excited to see it on my Orc."
Ok he lost me after he said that. Am I the only one that didn't understand what he meant here? As far as I know, mages and warlocks has always been an available class on both factions. Am I missing something here?
Oh I agree. I was a CATA beta tester and the starting lvls were fun until about 50 then it became the same ol grind fest. Even Blizz admits that they geared CATA for starting lvl but after lvl 50 you start to think about end game content and yes new raids even with a twist when SW or ORG get invaded and that becomes a open world raid. The thing is WoW is running out of steam and when better and there will be better MMO's (TOR, GW2) when they come out your new toon will be lvl 85 and you will be running the one time newiest raid for the Nth time for more achievments.
So Basicly CATA become a pacifier until the gaming world comes up with something better and they will I mean heck even Curt Shhilling from 38 Studios recognizes this fact stating that "WoW can not be number 1 forever." he even goes on to state that his company will be in the top spot it may take a few years but well worth the wait.
Considering that TOR will be a failure when (and if) it comes out in a year or year and a half, and GW2 is a buy to play game (also coming out in year - year and a half), which means that the GW exeprience will repeat itself (i think they got up to 4 million copies sold, most of the servers were empty, and it was an instanced game to begin with), WoW will rule for a very long time.
There was a leak from some Chinese site that Blizzard plans to release a 4th expansion (mid/late 2012) and a 5th expansion (early 2014) so i dont think that they are "done with". Speaking as a player who played plenty of mmos , WoW Cataclysm is the best MMO experience at the market. I can only applaud Blizzard , they got my trust back after the failure that was the Wrath of the Lich King. Eagerly awaiting to level up my goblin mage.

WoW another of those fabulous people , who created a account to stimulate the game .
Eh yes yes wow will rule as long sensible people like me are forced to stay . guess what the time is running out .
WoW will fail once they run out of people who can organise things .
Dont worry random raids will be offered soon enough i will give it next year .. and then wipe fest galore
And for the mature people , we dont need to be milked much more we are tired , and truth is i see that everyday i log in .
People are tired of organising stuff for no gratitude , and guilds are throw away subjects in wow .
Now where is my global account ignore in wow , oh wait they force me to play with people i dont want .
He cataclysme offered me a solution i dont need to recruit or take slack anymore from noobs . why i dont need noobs anymore only need 10 dedicated people .
Here is why TOR will be a refreshment for most of us sensible people , its finally another company , maybe in time it will become another wow . but atleast first years it will be refreshing community indeed.
Im impressed with remade zones and quest chains. Its a blast to play through some of the phasing sequences especially with a group.
But....I really do miss the old Brill inn. I used to rp by the fireplace there and did most of my bg cues from that inn. hanging out by the bar, sitting down on the bear rug, chatting up the newcomers. that was wow for me for a while and im sad its gone. ive been on the hunt for a new "home" that i can settle into.

And TOR will be free? If you dont like playing WoW, then dont play it. And, btw, have you even played Cataclysm? Tell me one thing you dont like in the game.

1 thing lol i can tell you a whole list full of what i dont like .
Here its the same story again , exactly the same story again .
Nothing new or innovative , same old grind and story .
You know what its just a carrot on a stick game , chase the carrot please .
You know what i probaly be in full epics by end of febuari while people are just screaming you have no life .
Cause the game is repetive and boring , i dont even read wow wiki and watch tankspot for new raids anymore.
I just swallow the 3 wipes , and boss is dead only endgame bosses is exciting cause thats where the real wipes happen.
So questing going to keep my heart and game content ? sorry challenges are keeping me happy and when endgame .
Provide no more challenge the game is made for pokemon collectors , and some people like pokemon .
Gotta Catch them all , Community is a pile of dog poo in wow .
Guilds are throw away objects in wow , where is the guild you leave you get nothing they promised ?
Scrapped cause cry babies like to join and leave .
I have said it before and will say it again WoW RUINED MMO's. They dumbed it down so much that it ranks right up there with Hello Kitty now. Hell if I want game play as easy as WoW I might as well play Hello Kitty Online.
What happened to the lure of traversing into a new area filled with danger and risk? That when you did make it through you were rewarded for it and actually felt accomplished instead of WoW where you just get everything handed to you on a silver platter...
I have been a huge fan of Warcraft since the Original Warcraft but they have seriously gone down hill over the years with WoW, it really is sad to watch such a great lore and game stoop so low as they have now.
Now just look forward to GW2 and the death of WoW which is now way over due...

OMG ty ty ty ty ty.....I feel the exact same way. Just know that we are not the only two ppl that feel this way there are way more then you expect that feels this way about WoW I know for a fact that WoW is becoming strictly a fanboy game. I just don't see that WoW will survive at the top spot by fanboy's alone. Sure I do believe that it will be around for a long time to come. I mean hey if SWG can still pull in its fanboys im sure WoW can do the same. Yes I did just compare WoW to SWG someday it will be at that lvl and I cant wait.
Mark my words TOR is the next WoW in a few years from now, After all WoW did not become number one in one night. It had to wait for EQ 2 to die off some then it took the number one spot away. And while im rambling People are getting so fed up with elf and orcs OMG I guess blizz knew they had to make two new races or WoW would of dropped the number one spot this coming year.

Ok ty for the correction but I must ask and Im not doubting your word it is just can you say Starcraft was a true MMO or if I remember right it was a RTS with Muliplay. And dont get me wrong my memory could be wrong It just seemed to my knowledge that EQ2 was the number one MMO at the time before WoW took that spot away. Please I welcome the correction if I am wrong.
Could they make this game any easier???? FFS way to kill any sense of accomplishment or challenge while leveling
I couldnt agree more WTF, its good cause its more streamlined? Has that ever been a issue with WoW being to hard at low levels? Holy crap where are we going as mmo players?
"I think the stream-lined questing and advancement will give new players a much easier time." Now im not mister hardcore but dear god its like a bad joke. Wheres the big red i win button??!!?
it's sad what WoW turned into i remember playing the TBC and downing prince for the first time amazing feeling of accomplishment it wasn't handed to me it took weeks. Every raid boss after that felt great to down cause it wasn't easy to do they got 11 million subs when the game was harder why are they making the game easier i have no clue. Your right the game is a bad joke that doesnt teach anyone how to play the game from level 1-80 then people wonder why in a pug people can't do the simpliest task. Blizzard will not get my 40$ for cata after Wotlk i can't trust anything they say cause that crap was a bunch of crap.
Oh yes, clearly their game design has had a real hard time attracting ang keeping players. They should re-think everything really.
It's funny that people just do not get the simple principals of economics. The market has spoken, what possible motivation would they have to change the game to please a small minority of players (who don't even subscribe any more)?

Thank you very much I do stand correct it seems that RuneScape was the top MMO before WoW took the number one spot back in 2004. I have no idea why I was thinking EQ2 lol

Well this chart was a little confusing to me. Still I am one to admit my mistake. Ty for the correction.

LOL
If Ya Ain't Dyin, Ya Ain't Tryin
So the OP said this:
Shall i go on ?

The graph says was Lineage in top not runescape.
Well this chart was a little confusing to me. Still I am one to admit my mistake. Ty for the correction.
