Want a new HD 1920x1080 gaming monitor - your thoughts?
I have parts on order for a new build which includes a 6850 GPU. I currently have a 22 inch 1680x1050 Acer. I would like to upgrade to a full HD gaming experience 1920x1080 and HDMI port. Would like to get a 27" but would go for anything in the 23" to 26" range if it were a good deal. Would also like LED backlighting and 120hz if possible. Having a hard time deciding and I would like some advice and recommendations. I would like to keep it around $300 (preferrably lower).
In summary:
Willing to spend $300-ish
Required
23" to 27" preferrably 27" (bigger is better!)
HD 1920x1080 w/HDMI port
5ms or less response (pretty standard right? either 5ms or 2ms?)
Optional but would like
120hz
LED backlit
What do you think and what monitor do you reccomend? Give me newegg links! (or any other retailer)

Just get a decent flat screen TV. I use a Sony Bravia as my PC monitor
Interesting idea but it could break my budget - what screen size do you have?

Have a Benq 24" LED HD, am quite pleased with it and it should fit in your budget.
Edit: It doesn't have 120hz.
OP, you will be hard pressed to find an LED monitor with that resolution AND a 120hz refresh rate for under $300.
My honest opinion is what some others here have said and thats get an HDTV instead. HOWEVER you will need to save up. You can get a 40 inch Sony Bravia 1080p with 60hz for around $400-500, OR the 120hz version for $699.
If you dont want to do that, then just get something cheap in the mean time. Samsung has a decent 23" LCD for under $300, but dont expect to get what you are looking for with that kind of budget. Sorry.

If you try to purchase that monitor in the US using the US Dollar its well over $300.

Thanks everybody for the tips so far. I accept that getting 1920x1080, LED backlighting AND 120Hz refresh may not happen for $300 or less.

Ok you have to make a compromise. Do you want the 120hz for more fluid graphics and 3D gaming OR do you want a LED screen for better colors, contrast and photorealism? Both can be HD, so HD really isnt the question. By HD you just mean high resolution.

If the refresh rate however is more important, then theres a viewsonic you can get for under $300, but I do not recommend the brand. Their LCDs are usually crap, otherwise, WAIT and save up a tad more money for the ACER or a better monitor/HDTV.

I used to use my 46" samsung lcd tv till it stopped turning on... apparently the capacitors went bad from me using it to much haha. Luckily it was still under warranty and I switched back to my crappy CRT.
Problem with 46" you cant have it on a desk in front of you.

Depends on the person and the desk.
As a gamer and digital artist who uses everything from Maya to Zbrush, I have found working up close on a large display such as an HDTV to be great, however I do dual screens, preferably with a cintiqu on one.
Anyways my point is that 46" hdtvs are fine if you get the right brand and depending on the space in which the person will be gaming. I mean you cant really go wrong with a good monitor, TV's however are more bang for the buck and can serve dual purposes especially if console gaming and moving watching gets thrown into the mix.
Regardless of what the OP goes with, I highly recommend some form of dual screen set up at one point or another. HDTVs make viable monitors and size usually isnt an issue depending on space and desk.

This one is slightly over your budget but it is one of the sweetest 27" screens on the market. I recommend Samsung anyways, by far the best screens out there, really thin and lightweight with great picture and good lightning.
Had a few, I have a Philips 24" now and while it is pretty nice to it is not close to my old Samsung 22" but I got a great price on it, and it is huge.
I agree that Samsung is definitely one of the market leaders in terms of quality. They are korean based as opposed to sharp, sony..ect which are japanese based. Phillips is UK based. Different regions and different technology.
Samsung screens and LG screens are typically identical btw, since both are korean companies and they both get their screens from the same manufacturing plant, the only real difference between LG and Samsung is everything else but the screens, which includes how the screens are used by the hardware through firmware and other technology.
Thanks for the suggestions folks! It's just such a hard choice because every major manufacturer seems to have a dozen models all over the place in price from $150 to $300. I will look closer at some you have suggested.

Like others have said, I would just buy a new TV.
They all have monitor hook ups and can ussually support whatever resolution your pc does. This way you'll get a new monitor and a TV for about the same price (especially with black friday/xmas sales), actually it'll probably end up being bigger.

I have a NEC EA231WMI, which I believe is the same panel as the dell. I love this NEC. People always complain about IPS for games since its slower than the TN panels but I play fast games like Bad Company 2 and have no problems with it. Can't see any ghosting when watching movies either. It has better color accuracy than any TN panel, which is important to me since I do lots of work in photoshop. Can usually get it around $300, I've seen it go as low as $266.
