Check out the Xfire page.
I know its Xfire and not everyone uses it but Lotro has gone up quite a bit and sustained its numbers on that site.
Whats even more impressive is today its not only #2 mmo but #8 overall!
That's pretty crazy considering the last time i look at lotro on Xfire it was in the 100s.

Perhaps it is due to the fact that LOTRO is running a contest involving Xfire.
LOL is it? I know Aion is high because the game is actually sold on that site (yet still under lotro
).
Has this "contest" been going on since f2p started? because lotro has been up there since that very moment with almost no drop in activity.

Rock, I'm pretty sure the contest announcement only went up this week. Anyway, with the people I've met, I just don't see the majority of Lotro players using xfire anyhow. I sure don't.
A guy that started playing year one claims that Lotro had 1 million + subscribers including Europe. It's hard to buy that, but they were privately held, so they never reported sub numbers publicly. Interesting.
I wish I could find the link.
It was on the forums I believe that Lotro was nearing 1 million subs this was about 6 to 8 months after release.
Considering lotro has registered 1 million new accounts since f2p and god knows how many more people joined since that announcement. it would explain why lotro is so freaking packed right now.
im not saying lotro has 1 million active players but it could be close considering half of the new accounts were documented as spending cash in the Turbine shop already.
I dont think we will ever see an active sub announcement again but im sure people will speculate and if Turbine opens more servers (which they need to do anyway) it will be a sign of the game growing. would be more believeable than just xfire numbers anyway.

The current jump is due to the EU F2P release, we have seen a similar one with US. LotRO in the EU is population wise just as strong as LotRO in US(give or take 10-20%), so this comes as no surprise. The assumption that EU players curious about LotRO would have played on the US servers already was obviously wrong.
Behold the power of advertisement. Now it will be interesting to see the population in about two weeks, though we can expect pop spikes around every major patch or update since without a subbarrier its very easy to check things out.
lol yeah this...if you play LOTRO using xfire you can get a chance of winning TP.
March on! - Lets Invade Pekopon
I remember when there was AoC contest going on xfire. If I remember right AoC was little more played than Lotro during that contest
But yeah, I'm downloading lotro europe too atm because friend plays it. Personally I'd prefer EQ2X
Totally off topic: Go go League of legends! #3 last time I checked.
i have never used xfire and i dont think i will after reading this
As far as I know Xfire doesnt even work with LotrO when running dx10/11.
If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
I think the population in lotro has been growing nicely lately. I know myself and many other AoCers have moved to lotro in the past month or so. We miss the pvp of AoC but lotro will keep me busy till Tera
