I will play an Asura Elementalist as my main, then a Sylvari assassin/rogue type character if they have it, ranger if not, then human something. Most likely wont play charr cause i still dont like them from the first game, and i know that they just took there land back from the humans but still it was my Ascalon. Also ive always hated races in games that put combat, honor, and war above everything else.
I'll try them all eventually. I'll probably start with humans and charr, or humans and norn, leaning a bit towards the latter. If one of my buddies is *really* into charr like im guessing he might be, ill go humans, charr, then norn, and try the others later.
The world weeps under the corruption of the elder dragons. Tyria cries in pain, and yet you all bicker about which race may be superior. Can you not hear her suffering? Can you not put aside your voices and listen to the dream of the world?
We few sylvari that have joined the Order of Whispers know these things. The ancient knowledge of the world itself is within our grasp and with it we may put an end to the plight of the dragons. Only through unity may we restore the ancient magics that once bound the dragons.

DING DING DING! its time for Lore lessons with bazak !!
mmmk now the area that seems to be in error here is quite simple realy, we have no idea why the dragons have been asleep for 10,000 years. all that has been confirmed is that the dragons have been asleep for 10,000 years and the only thing remotely powerfull enough to bind them would be the human gods which didnt arrive in tyria untill after the dragons were sleeping. i could go on about reasons why aside from the fact this is unconfirmed that it is likely wrong based on current known lore. (p.s. it is hinted at that the giganticus lupicus who died out about 10,000 years ago were likely killed out by the dragons). fairly easy mistake if you dont look closely enough.
on the op's note i will be human main and a asura and sylvari secondary duno what else i will pick.

Ah, but I was in character there; the Order believes there is magics that once bound the dragons and are seeking them--the Order believes that dragons cannot be defeated, only temporarily arrested through long slumber. I'm fully versed in the lore.

So put away your Mensa Memberships, boys--we are convinced
To address the OP's topic, I intend to make one of each (all the better to get Birthday Presents, heh). I really don't know which one I will play first, though. I think I will read the next books before I decide, as was mentioned previously.

ahhh there is one problem with that though the order doesnt actualy believe that they were bound but they believe the only way to stop them would be to force them back into their hybernation noone actualy knows why the elder dragons were asleep or if they were forced to sleep (im betting not based on the lore).
here is a passage from gw2 wiki: The Order of Whispers does not believe the Elder Dragons can be destroyed, and instead searches for a method to return them to their slumber.
here is the link as u can see there is nothing there saying that they believe the dragons were ever forced into hybernation (as far as i know they do it of their own free will)

I'll be human, because we have brains unlike Charr and Norn, can use them to reflect on the consequences of our actions unlike the Sylvari, and are adaptable/concerned with more than our own supremecy unlike the Asura.
Charr don't have brains? WTF is your problem. The Black Citadel is steam powered FFS! They are probably the most technologically advanced race in GW2, save the magical technology of the Asura. They invented firearms and they made or helped make the first printing press. Most industriose race in GW2. Don't call them stupid when they are anything but.
[petpeeve] Race names are not capitalized. [/petpeeve]
Anyway, whilst I have a preference for the look of the sylvari, the sheer braininess of the asura is irresistable. They're like gnomes without the comic propensity for catastrophic failure. Or the hairiness.
Plus, their technology is more 'magitech' than the steampunk that gnomes are generally saddled with. Steampunk bothers me immensely.

I was just poking fun :P. But that's not the kind of intellect I was referring to. The Charr are known for allowing themselves being slaves to their own aggression, with few exceptions. It's ironic really, since they claim to covet their freedom from external control so highly. The main reason they are technologically advanced (mostly in the military department) is because they place so much emphasis on the ability to make war. Few of them dare to rise above their own cultural forces and become free thinkers.

That is lack of self control, not lack of brains. It is something completely different.
And many intelligent people have focused a lot of effort into war, that is more of a focus thing.
The reason I wont play a charr is because they are angry furballs, and unlike your specieism is that true.
But don't say anyone who can build a gun lack brains. It demands a knowledge in physics, and for the wheel lock gun they built advanced mechanical knowledge too. Not to mention metallurgy and chemistry.

Not quite self-control. More like critical-thinking ability, I'd say; And that ability is vital to intellectual pursuits.
Having the raw intellect and knowledge to create a machine is commendable (and maybe I can't say they lack a brain in the traditional sense), but that alone isn't enough. If you never reflect on why you do anything, you aren't a thinking being, you're just a puppet or tool of some greater authority.
Charr can build the machines and make the war, but they hardly ever ask "Hey, why am I so angry all the time?" "Why are we using all this tech for war instead of making our lives better?" "Why is our society structured this way, and is that really how it should be?" etc.
The Charr are mad because they used to own the entire continent and then Humans came in with their disgusting hairless bodies and pushed them to the northern brink of existence. Then when trying to reclaim their land they're enslaved by false gods and the moment they break free of them that damn Witch King turns a whole region of their newly reclaimed land into a ghost town, LITERALLY! Damnit, if that doesn't piss you off what does! Charr for life!

I'm waiting 'till I get a chance to read the 2nd and 3rd Ghosts of Ascalon books before I choose a race or class.
Anyone read the first one?

Damn i can't decide, just not Norns since i am not going for a melee class.
I fit most for NORN and Ill play it as my main race.
- brutal and bloody destiny for enemies
- they dont follow, they lead
- never kneel before king or queen
- dont count with gods, they count only for their steel weapons
- wild animals spirits as "companions"
- tallest, biggest so at least small chance of biggest boobs :-))
- btw the screens of norn armor are most impressive so far
definitely norn
What, you looks like one of those elder dragon we are supposed to kill... Norns Attack!!!

I will probably start out as an Asura..got a thing for small races(no im not short IRL)...and theyre tech savvy
